It's a beautiful facility and very clean. I liked the wide hallways and open spaces. The bathroom was very accessible. I liked the country setting with southern exposure. The head chef had been in the restaurant business so I knew the food would be good. I also chose Koselig because they had a nurse/ director. She was let go shortly after mom moved in. This was a bit troubling because it appeared that nobody was in charge. This was a negative.... Read more

Stay away from Thee Koselig House if you care about your loved one! Things started out great last August, but after the Director [name removed] left, things went downhill in a hurry. We moved our family member out months ago, due to the lousy care, constant turnover of staff, and terrible meals (which was often cereal for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and Papa John's pizza for dinner....and we were paying [fee removed] a month for that? Ridiculous! Poorly managed, poorly trained staff, terrible facility!

Response from The Koselig House
September 4, 2024This review is very misleading and is not reflective of what is actually happening within The Koselig House at any time. The care provided by our team is praised by our residents and their families. We work hard to ensure our team is well versed in the care and personal needs of each of our residents. As such, we ask our residents what they would like to have for meals and out of respect provide that to them. Cereal is often what is requested, because it is what the resident wants and our residents love sandwiches, soups, etc. or lighter meals for lunch, especially in the summer time. Do we order pizza for our residents? Yep, we do, because they request it and deserve it. We have also been known to bring in Big Macs and fries too, because who doesn't love McDonald's. However, we also have roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, and all the fixings as part of our dietician approved menu. In addition, we always have fresh fruits and vegetables on hand for our residents to enjoy! While we do have staff turnover, as does every healthcare entity right now, we strive daily to ensure those taking care of our residents are more than capable to care for our residents and ensure their smiles.
The staff are very friendly. They seem like they take care of my dad pretty good very clean place smells good. They could maybe try to bring the price down a little bit. I will have to talk to them about this again since they have Hospice in there now the price should come down because they are doing some of the stuff. Just my opinion.

Response from The Koselig House
September 4, 2024Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the care your loved one receives as part of our Koselig Family. We are so glad that you find our team friendly and that our home is one where you and your loved one feel comfortable. It is our honor to care for all of our residents and work hard to ensure that every moment is one where they find love and compassion. In terms of our price, it does vary based on the needs of our residents, but we are always open to discuss any concerns you may have at any time.
The staff I met were always friendly. There is a current prosecution of a former member of the staff for stealing my Mom's checks and forging checks to herself. Also KH had frequent issues with management shortages. I would not recommend them. I could hope to do better.

Response from The Koselig House
September 4, 2024We were as disheartened by what this person choose to do and have worked to ensure that they are fully held accountable. Their poor choice, is not reflective of the many wonderful employees who serve our residents at The Koselig House. All of us have worked hard to overcome this issue and have implemented additional security measures and procedures to ensure the safety and well being of our residents. We do apologize that this one instance has tarnished the hundreds of other moments of exceptional care and compassion shown by our team to your Mom and the countless smiles we have shared.

Response from The Koselig House
January 27, 2024Thank you for sharing your experience in having your loved one this with us at The Koselig House. We are blessed to have such wonderful residents and families that support and appreciate our efforts. We are very glad that you and your loved one feel at home with us and enjoy our food too! While we can't comment on employee issues, what we can say is that our home is overseen by a hands-on family and management team that ensures the quality of care and life for our Koselig family remains consistent no matter who is there. In addition, we take pride in equipping every member of our team to be a leader that pitches in to help whenever there is a need. It would not be in the best interest of anyone, if there was only one person in charge. It takes a family of dedicated team members to provide the resident focused care and smiles that we provide at The Koselig House.
My Dad was previously a resident at The Koselig House. [Name removed] was a 5 all the way. Some of the other staff, their care and friendliness, left something to be desired (some told us how overworked/under-staffed they were and wanted to know "why we would bring Dad there with covid," as if we knew that he had it!). Trust me, that was worst scenario timing for us, as well as the staff. But I do feel, after I explained and asked them to pass the word, that it got better. I understand being overwhelmed. Overall, I would recommend The Koselig House to others. I also greatly appreciate The Koselig Houses' willingness to give us a shorter period of private pay. That was a huge weight off of my Mom's shoulders and definitely decreased her stress in Dad's final days. Thanks!

I've been very impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. As a RN, I have high expectations for other health care providers, and I believe my stepmother is getting excellent care! [name removed] was instrumental in getting my stepmother in the facility, and she was a tremendous help and comfort guiding us through that process. Her successor, [name removed], also was helpful when my stepmother recently needed hospitalization. I'm concerned now that [name removed] has left as well; both for who's actually in charge now and how things are being managed but also for who comes next as director, and why did the previous 2 directors leave so quickly? Hopefully these issues will be resolved soon and to a satisfactory level.

Response from The Koselig House
December 8, 2023Thank you for this wonderful 5-star review! We are so happy to hear that your stepmother has received such good care from our team at The Koselig House. We are honored to serve her. With your experience in the healthcare field, we appreciate you taking the time to recognize the importance of high-quality care and the need for immediate response when there is an issue. It is always our goal to ensure that everyone on our team is well versed in the needs of our residents, so that no matter who is there, the needs of those within the Koselig family are always being met. Choosing to work in the healthcare field is one that has many rewards but can also be difficult personally and can result in the need to depart from a position, even if the person loves working there and being with the residents. While we seek to put our Koselig family first, others may need to prioritize differently, and we respect and support those decisions whenever they are needed. However, please realize that a home like the Koselig House is led by a TEAM of capable, kind, and hardworking individuals who continue to ensure the care and smiles of all within our Koselig family.
From the first days my husband has been there to now, the place has improved so much. The addition of a Director and RN has made it such a better place. Always someone there to be able to talk to on issues and they do get addressed. An industry that is not for everyone. It takes someone special to do these jobs. Everything is well taken care of but could use some updating, mainly the carpet. The cleaning lady does an excellent job. I have gotten to know the staff and they are always so nice. So nice to be greeted by them calling me by my name. They have always been so friendly and caring to my husband. He in turn has had some very bad days and giving them a very unnecessary hard time. As rushed as they maybe, always are pleasant. They are doing the best they can. Like any other place shortage of staff is an issue. Not always easy to be 2 places at once. Would I like it different “yes”. But understand at times not possible. Maybe understaffed and under paid. My husband always tells me how good the food is. No complaints by him! Seems there is always something going on that the residents could partake in. Puzzles, movies, music entertainment, card games, games etc. just happens my husband is not interested but it is very available if he wanted to. He never was interested in these things when he was at home When it comes to the value for cost, not sure I can rate this. At times “priceless”. I understand what it was like to care for him at home and when I could no longer do it, this is when I needed to get help. Not an easy decision but when I had to make that decision so thankful for a place like the Koselig House , their caring staff for me to be working with.

Response from The Koselig House
July 12, 2023Thank you for sharing your experience at the Koselig House! We greatly appreciate your insights and are happy to report that we are literally days away from replacing our carpets!! It is our goal that our residents live in an environment that supports them throughout their stay with our family. In fact, we have consulted with an expert in the field of aging and dementia to ensure our new flooring is one that is supports those with eye and perception issues. This person-centered focus from our floors to our food and everything in between is what we are proud to provide to your husband and all of our residents and their families at the Koselg House. Please know that our door is always open and we are happy to help at any time. While your husband may not always want to participate in our activities, please know that you are welcome to join them. The more smiles we can create the better and to us they are what is truly priceless!! Thank you again!!!
The lack of staffing has been the biggest issue. There is a major lack of fresh vegetables on the menu as well. There is no correspondence back to the families either. Overall there are just a lot of improvements that The Koselig House could make to improve the experience.

October 12, 2022Thank you for sharing this valuable feedback with us and for allowing us the opportunity to address some of these issues. Please know that our door is always open to hear ways that we can better meet the needs and expectations of our residents and their families. As with all businesses in our current climate, staffing is interesting, which is we focus our Team on their specific job duties and not using them to cover a variety of areas within our building. We have a specific chef, housekeeper, and caregivers which enables them to focus on what they do best and ensure that those providing direct care are focused solely on our residents and their quality of life. As for our menu we work with our residents and a dietician to determine what items they want to eat and drink. In addition, we have to be cognizant of the physical capabilities of our residents, an example is that fresh carrots are wonderful and nutritious they can pose an issue for those with dentures, gastrointestinal issues for elders, and can be a choking hazard for those with dementia. We also recognize that not every meal, will appeal to all, which is why we try to provide a variety of options to our residents, but we can certainly work to add in more fresh vegetables if this is what our residents would like. We also understand that you would like more correspondence back to families, but per HIPAA we are not able to do this if our resident has not been deemed incapacitated. Without this by law any medical or personal information would need to be given directly to the resident, but families can sign up to receive our newsletter by talking with our Executive Director or going to our website www.thekoselighouse.com. We would love to share the many ways we are creating smiles within our Koselig family.
The Koselig House is a really nice place and we would recommend to other families.

July 17, 2022Thank you for this wonderful review of the care and services we provide at The Koselig House Assisted Living and Memory Care. We greatly appreciate it!
They are struggling with keeping the turnover of staff down but we understand that is an issue across the medical field and all fields right now. With that being said the care they give to our loved one is good quality care, we would not take her any place else. The location is very close to us so it makes it easy to come and visit. They do have a lady that comes in a few times a week and does activities with the residents which is nice.

July 17, 2022Thank you for recognizing that the current turnover issues within healthcare are felt by all. This is why we focus on hiring the best people, creating a culture that supports them, and providing them with the training and supports they need to feel comfortable and remain passionate about what they do. We are proud that are Team works together daily to ensure the residents at The Koselig House receive not only the highest quality of care, but are also actively engaged to live their best lives at whatever capacity that might be. It is our belief that activities aren't up to just one person, but to everyone at The Koselig House which also means that they can happen at any time and are built to be responsive to what our residents want and when they want to do them. Thank you for taking the time to provide this wonderful review! We greatly appreciate it and you!
So far we like The Koselig House, we are really enjoying the peacefulness of the place and just the overall friendliness of the staff members. The entire facility is extremely clean, but sometimes the individual house keeping in our loved ones room could use some help. We like that the community locks from the inside so the residents are able to wander the entire facility safetly. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend them to other families.

Response from The Koselig House
April 22, 2022Thank you for taking the time to share with us your experience at The Koselig House Assisted Living. We noticed that you gave our Team 5 Stars, which we know they will be thrilled to learn. Our Team is at the heart of the care we provide and knowing that you recognize their efforts truly means a lot. We do apologize there are some delays regarding your departures from our home. As you recognized our Team works hard to be there for our residents and always put their wellbeing first, which sometimes means that they aren't as readily available to release the doors. If possible, when you know an approximate time that you will be leaving, try to catch the eye of one of our Team and simply let them know. Simply by cuing them that you will be leaving in 5 minutes, it will help them manage their time and efforts to ensure you are helped more quickly. We thank you for your understanding and assistance on this matter. In addition, we will also invite you to pick up an activity calendar from our main area, which lists the various activities that are occurring within our home. Once you review it, we would love the opportunity to talk with you about the activities you are expecting to see your loved one participating in and how we might assist in making that happen. Please feel free to stop by our office any time to discuss.
Do not put a loved one in this facility. There is usually an average of 2 staff members on a shift covering 20 residents. There is no house keeping or laundry staff. Those who work do their best with what they have. Family members need to visit more often and at off times to see the real workings of the facility.

January 20, 2022Thank you for this 5 Star Review! However, this home was sold after this review was submitted. It is now under completely new ownership and management. The staff is still trying to do activities through covid and are taking them outside to get fresh air. My dad said the food is good and well rounded. It's also a newer facility, so it is more modern and cleaner. The rooms are very nice also I would recommend this facility.

My sister Pam Pasowicz didn’t mention that the when my mother fell from her wheelchair she broke the 1st cervical vertebrae, called C-1 or the atlas. It’s the 1st vertebrae under the skull. WHERE WAS THE STAFF???? When she hit her head in the nightstand, I was visiting my mom about a week before Easter. I had gotten some Popeye’s chicken for her (her favorite) when I noticed a large bump on her forehead. I asked her what happened and she told me. I stopped a staff member and questioned her about the bump. She had no idea mom had fallen out of bed and hit the nightstand w/her head. I asked if she had been taken to get checked out, she went and checked her chart and no she hadn’t. I then asked why my sister and I weren’t called. All she could do is shrug her shoulders. My mom DIED EXACTLY 4 months to the day she broke her neck.

This is my first real experience with a facility for my wife, who has Dementia. The room is comfortable, there is plenty of natural light. Staff is friendly and helpful, but like most care facilities, tends to run short handed. There is some disconnect with the administration due to staff changes. The food is very good. The open common areas are large, so they never feel crowded.

Avoid this facility! They are understaffed, and the staff the do have is the worst of the worst. Apparently the only qualifications needed to work there is to have a pulse.
