The food options, the activities and the safety the community provides is something we likes most about The Dorchester South community. For activities they have different outings every week as well as party and get togethers. Based on our experience so far, we would recommend the community to other families.

I am now a resident at The Dorchester and very very happy. The place to be!!! Reasonable monthly fee, so many activities and bus trips for everyone, everyone is friendly and helpful. Both residents and staff. The food in the dining room is good but most prefer to cook in their apartments either because of convenience or cost. Here there is a reasonable fee for the meals. Love being here!!!

We chose Dorchester South because it offered a lot for what you have to pay and the location. The rooms are pretty good sized, they do have huge bathrooms. Perfect for one or two people. I have eaten here a couple times and the food was really good. Overall, I would absolutely recommend and have several times

December 14, 2020Thank you so much for the kind words and the wonderful review. Thank you for choosing to live with us. We appreciate it!
It is a nice community. It will be better when the pandemic is over. The community is very friendly, nice, and accommodating. If you walk through the front doors, there is always somebody to greet you. The food is good, but can be expensive at times.

Response from The Dorchester South
December 14, 2020Thank you so much for the kind words and for choosing The Dorchester! Our number one priority is to keep our residents safe during these times. We look forward to adding more and more events once the pandemic comes to an end. Thank you, again, for living with us!
We chose The Dorchester South because they had an apartment that was income sensitive. The apartment she is in is smaller, but it is for the value of the price. She said the food is pretty good for the most part, but sometimes they do put a little too much salt. My favorite part about the facility is the activities. Some of those include bingo, exercise classes, events for the holidays, etc. I also love that they have a 24/7 front desk person, so someone is available at all times if we need anything. The only downside is that they don't have shuttles available to medical appointments.

Response from The Dorchester South
September 28, 2020Thank you so much for leaving a review for us! We appreciate that your family choose The Dorchester! Glad to hear you are enjoying the activities we offer each month!
In our opinion The Dorchester has the best value in the area, it is very reasonably priced. It is independent living, however the care services they do offer are good. There have been times where this community has been mistaken as just assisted living, but this is independent with assisted living. If you need more assistance you would have to hire outside services to come and help out. The activities are fantastic, before COVID there was four days of exercise classes that included yoga and Tai Chi, they could also participate in seminars. This community would bring in musicians and comedians. There would be festivals they could go to, and even the Mayor would join. The executive chef at this community is absolutely great, everyone at this community loves her. The food is ale-cart so you can either eat every once in awhile or all the time. She is very accommodating with the residents when it comes to different diets, for example if you are vegan or have diabetes. No one complains about the food or the kitchen staff The rooms are absolutely beautiful. There are two separate apartments you can chose to live in, that is the Dorchestor or the Manors. The Dorchester are more smaller and have in come based one bedroom apartments, or non income based one and two bedroom apartments. The Manor's are the most luxury styled apartments. There are five libraries at this community and three of them are at the Dorchester.

September 28, 2020Thank you so much for the kind word, Jodi. We appreciate you taking the time to review our facility. Thank you for choosing us. We take pride in everything we offer at both The Dorchester & The Manor!
We chose this facility because of the price. The room sizes are perfect, my parents are in a room together. They have a very spacious bathroom. IO have not eaten here but my parents have said the food is really good. My favorite part about this community has been the fact that my parents are no longer alone. They have people around them all the time. I would absolutely recommend The Dorchester South

Response from The Dorchester South
September 1, 2020Thank you so much for the wonderful review, Diane! We appreciate the kind words. So glad that your parents are enjoying themselves. We hope to see you around The Dorchester soon!
The community was everything I expected and more. The only negative was the square footage of the unit that fits my budget. I will have to do further drastic downsizing to fit in. Everything else was within reasonable limits. It appears to be a great place to live. All of the staff was very friendly and professional.

My mother lived at the Dorchester for 2 years. The facility and apartments were clean and pleasant. The maintenance staff is awesome! The staff in general is great, friendly, , etc. The food was good but is not offered enough. Weekends consist of sandwiches only at lunch; No dinner. Often on Holidays, the dining room only offered sandwiches as well. The Dorchester is for INDEPENDENT residents. If they can cook for themselves and they are not interested in activities, etc, it is great. There are some activities but there is not much effort to engage new residents. Note: if the resident should fall or be injured, they can not assist in ANY way. They have to call 911. They will go check on a resident if there is a concern, but they can't help them up if they fall, for example. If your loved one might need any assistance, independent living is not suitable. My difficulty was the billing. I am not referring to the prices, which I thought were very reasonable, but the accuracy of the bill. You need to review each month's bill carefully! We had charges for things we didn't use or incur. Getting them corrected was impossible. ( I am not referring to dining charges). Mom had to move to assisted living. Two charges that I was told would be corrected were not. Very frustrating!

This one is perfect! The tax-advantaged one bedroom apartment called the Dover is $797 and fits nicely in our budget. We didn't have a formal tour but simply walked in and the receptionist was super nice and the residents greeted my mom and we ended up staying for almost 2 hours just talking with them and they showed us around it was amazing. I've sent them a message requesting a formal tour and instructions on how we can get on the waitlist for the one-bedroom Dover model. It does not include a meal plan but optionally she can have dinner or sandwiches in the restaurant on site just as if she would be going out to a local restaurant except it's right on site. This one is definitely our favorite so far!

My mother in law is extremely pleased and very content since moving here. The community is very homey and friendly. Everyone on the staff from the groundskeeping to the kitchen staff to the nurses and administration has been more than helpful to the point where they go out of their way to get things done I just can't say enough about the whole staff in general. My mother in law doesn't, as a rule, go down to the dining room she prefers to cook for herself but I must say the operating hours are more like a country club than say a restaurant. The main 2 reasons for us choosing this place was my mother in law could get a first-floor room and it was handicap accessible and the price was the deal breaker we were very pleased as to the cost.

A Place for Mom has scored The Dorchester South 9.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
