Lovely grounds, unique apartments, and great staff! This place isn't your cookie cutter retirement village, and that's what I love about it. Owners are constantly making renovations - I'm impressed. They are continually making new improvements in every category.

In 2018, I moved my mom to the TRV assisted living unit, which was small, warm and welcoming. Her adjustment was rapid, unlike her negative response to the time she had spent in other facilities in NM and VA. We were able to decorate her room to suit her tastes, personalizing her intimate living space. The staff to patient ratio was excellent allowing the staff to individually take care of each resident. This attention to her personal needs allowed her to finally relax since my father's death in 2010. Visiting her became a joy, as I too was welcomed into the assisted living community. Residents from independent living would visit the impaired and activities were open to all community residents. My mom died in Feb. 2019. The entire staff made whatever adjustments she needed as she approached the end of her life. I only wish I had been aware of TRV's assisted living unit much earlier in her journey.

Our Dad moved here 8 months ago, and couldn't be happier. He was moving from the East Coast, so we thought he would have a tough time adjusting, but the staff were so nice, and the other residents so welcoming that he felt at home in no time. The grounds are beautiful, the Chef is a genius, and the apartments are cute and unique. My husband and I can't wait to move it when its our time!

My mother enjoyed many years at TRV, most recently in the assisted living facility. The prime Taos location and sense of community have always been strong points, and now the new management team is doing an excellent job to ensure consistent quality of service. In our experience, staff members go above and beyond to provide respectful and compassionate care, and the residents really look out for each other. There are many social opportunities and the food is great. TRV is an important part of Taos and the new management seems dedicated to keeping it that way.

My mother in law has been an Independent Living resident at Taos Retirement Village for over a year now, having moved to be closer to us from Oakland, CA. She absolutely loves living there! She enjoys the socialization eating lunch at the bistro and the many different activities provide. The residents are very friendly and welcoming. The staff is caring, helpful and attentive to the needs of the residents. The owners of Taos Retirement Village continue to work at improving all aspects of the Village. It is a great comfort to know she is safe and lives in a positive environment!

Great property with a very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful grounds. The Chef is fantastic. My parents just moved in and they have already made lots of new friends. I'm surprised at how fast they've adjusted.

My father recently moved into the Retirement Village. Dad wasn’t real excited about moving out of the house, but we were able to get him moved and settled. It has exceeded our expectation in every way. The staffs attention to detail and truly cari g nature have allowed all of us in the family to breath a sigh of relief. The food is great, the grounds are beautiful and calming. Dad couldn’t be happier.

Lovely grounds, but the people who live there expressed a disturbing level of disappointment with the management company. They were disgusted by the chaos created by the management company and their total disregard to staffing needs. Examples include the high turn over rate in the overall administration, understaffing in the nursing home, and a revolving door of executive directors. Residents told me they were promised stress-free living, but were very vocal about the amount of stress living there adds to their lives. Too bad; it is a gem in the heart of Taos, but I would not want my parents exposed to such upheaval.

Response from Taos Retirement Village
May 17, 2018Please note that a management company change occurred in October 2017. Steps have been put in place to rectify the issues brought forth by this reviewer. We value our staff and our residents and strive to ensure a peaceful and harmonious environment.
Some of the nursing staff are not as well trained as they could be. There's a lack of communication and consistency and care. When shifts change the information doesn't appear to be communicated properly. If you say something in the morning it doesn't happen in the afternoon. The place is not filthy, but, my mother is incontinent, initially she might miss, and it isn't properly cleaned up, and she can't do it. The carpet in the eating area, where there's a lot of traffic, is really dirty; they tried to clean but didn't get it. Some of the CNA's are very young. My mother can be a little bit difficult, and she wants attention to detail, and not slam bam, it's done. For instance they food without utensils, and, well, I'll go and get it. They're not thoughtful. They don't mean to be mean, but don't seem to know what to expect when working with the elderly. They say things like "Don't start". They don't have enough training working with people who can't help themselves. Higher management doesn't communicate in a way that it comes down. Part of the problem is they are understaffed. My mom doesn't participate in activities so I can't rate them.
