My mom has been living at The Symphony for almost 2 years. She suffers from dementia and has had several falls, resulting in a much more debilitating lifestyle. When choosing the Symphony, we were looking for a family-like atmosphere, in a place which would consider and accommodate mom’s increasingly special needs. The Symphony does a very good job at doing that. The home is safe and comfortable, has friendly and knowledgeable staff, and offers it’s residents purposeful and engaging activities. The Symphony dining experience, from what I have witnessed , offers my mom dignity and independence, as well as a varied and nutritious menu. The staff at The Symphony are amazing. They are always helpful, and considerate. They encourage families to be involved and offer information sessions on a variety of topics, to better understand and navigate the changes that are inevitable with dementia and aging. Overall, I am very pleased with the quality of care that mom receives at The Symphony.... Read more

Very dissatisfied

I found the nursing staff very unqualified to handle medical emergencies My father was having a stroke and the nurse and staff on duty could not reconize obvious signs of a stroke and gave me a hard time when I wanted to call 911 for an ambulance and only called as I was about to call. Even paramedics stated he obviously had a stroke when they arrived I find their qualifications very questionable They are very short staffed on weekends as full time staff are off and can not give proper care or food to elderly also occurs on holidays Food can be cold at times I would not recommend kanata symphony

There was too much pressure. Shocked when shown the lock down floor - should have been warned. [Name removed] put a lot of pressure to commit. The director of care was great and gave great advice.

Very nice, modern, and clean! Since the building is just a year old, this is expected. The units felt open and cozy and the hallways had very big windows looking out into a courtyard. Very impressed with the thoughtful layout and designs of all the rooms. Also, the philosophy behind the care was designed for people with cognitive impairments and the staff members have cognitive impairment specific training.

Memory care unit smelled old and of urine and the flooring creaked a lot. The bottom of the doors was dirty. The units felt very small and the hallways felt small. The floor was a long, straight hallway.

My sister and I liked the community, and my dad liked it enough that he registered my mom same day.

Flexible, family feeling!

My mom moved in this June. She wasn't happy about leaving her place but she was falling a lot and were very happy when we could 'tick' off all her requirements- privacy, flexibility, walk out patio, activities, care, and having her pet with her when we visited Symphony. We saw other places but they didn't have the atmosphere that Kanata Symphony did. Everyone is so friendly and relaxed. Even though she said she didn't 'need' friends, she has made them and really enjoys the staff and activities. She is never in her room. The home's pets are a big plus too, makes it feel like home. The food and care is excellent. We are involved in her care plans and get regular updates so we don't worry about her anymore. It's really been the best decision for our whole family. Thanks again!! Rating 5/5!

It went really well. The place was older but nice. Loved the little touches they have for the memory care floor. Staff seem really friendly and food looks good. Maybe going back with mom to have lunch to see if she likes it. Depends on other tours. They also have a lot of activities which us good. Cost is reasonable.
