My 96 year old Mum, who is suffering from Alzheimer's, has been living at Sunrise of Oakville for the past three years. Mum is very happy and content in her bright, spacious apartment. Her physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs are being well taken care of by an extremely knowledgeable, caring and friendly staff. The building is a cozy, well designed one. Communication between Sunrise and Mum's family is excellent. The food is delicious and nutritious. My father moved here after an extended stay in a hospital last Fall. He was frail and weak after numerous medical issues after having been so vital and living unassisted. He needed so much more care. And it was during the worst of the COVID 19 pandemic. The staff worked with myself and both of my siblings as we divided up tasks. They have been absolutely fantastic with us and with my Dad in getting all of his needs met and care set up during this health care crisis as well as keeping us informed every step of the way. They have helped facilitate facetime calls, fluctuating needs and getting my Dad on a schedule which has resulted in substantial gains in his health which we did not think were possible. We are thrilled with all the staff and level of physical, mental and administrative care and support he receives and look forward to more social activities once the lockdowns are over.

Sunrise of Oakville has been the best place for my mom, after researching many other assisted living homes. They are so friendly, fun and caring and very loving towards all of their residents, as far as I can see, every time I've been there. And, I've been there almost every day for the past month. They have lots of activities and include everyone! The food is pretty good, but mostly it feels like a home when you walk in...not a hospital Because we were so pleased with Sunrise, we now have an aunt, and my mother-in-law living there too. They are having a great time, enjoying each others company mostly well taken care of from the staff that work there. Thats what is important!! If anyone is thinking of going to Sunrise...do it!! You won't regret it.

Overall, environment is warm and friendly but really lacks decision making abilities to address individual needs such as: 1. Foodservice- lack of flexibility and understanding for individual dietary needs -diabetes and independent residents 2. Medical staff- lack of full time 24/7 RN and doctor on staff for emergencies and /or addressing care needs to make a proper assessment of resident prior to sending to hospital. 4.Caregivers are too systematic and task oriented versus understanding the need of the client and can't make decisions. 3. Dementia client has no access to memory care floor and when asked to address it, get round around and lack of service from medical staff. 4. USA doesn't understand Canada needs more autonomy. Demograhics are changing. No flexibility. 6. Food is American food. Can't alter menu to address diversity requirements or diabetic needs. 7. Lack of activities, social outings and overall needs for clients that are more independent. 8. Need more flexibility for clients that can /want to cook in their rooms.

Overall our experience with Sunrise was disappointing. The facility itself is nice enough, but I found the care lacking. The doctors were fantastic, but the aide staff were not very attentive. If your loved one is on the lower end of the care scale they essentially don't get any care at all. There was also quite a bit of staff turnover in their RN staff during our time there. Based on our experience I would not recommend them.

I was impressed with the level of knowledge that [Removed] has about Sunrise. She was able to answer a lot of our questions and brought in the head nurse to answer medical questions. The premises are well designed and maintained. The residents looked well cared for. Overall a very good impression.

Erin was also very informative and easy to talk with. The home is the exact same layout (all Sunrise homes r the same) but I found this home more suitable for my mother. This location seems to be newer or have had some renovations done!! Again the suite they had available is adequate for my mothers needs! A full calendar of activities r available for the residents and while I was there many residents were partaking in the activities and enjoying their day. Very nice home

Note: this review is after 6 days of assisted living at Sunrise, Oakville. •Never smelled "The Smell". •Everybody knows Dad (reticent and profoundly deaf) already. •Meals are on time, healthy, good portions, a bit bland and institutional but enjoyable •Snacks are healthy, numerous, with good variety. •Meds are properly administered •Although he was assessed a bit too high (and expensive), he was readily downpriced to more independence as he requested. •Always treated with dignity and respectfully.

I did see a decline with the food over time. I don't think I had the same bill twice, look out for rising costs as care needs go up. It looks warm and inviting, and the tour is really nice. They said you would always have the same caregiver, and that didn't seem to be the case.
