My father was released to Rehab Care and we chose this facility for its newness and cleanliness. We were dealing with the best option under insurance coverage. I recommend every family practice due diligence when selecting a care facility. This healthcare business first and foremost is a corporate business. There are wonderful nurses and then there are traveling/contract nurses who float and fill-in as needed. I commend the physical therapy staff who provided my father with caring and focused attention. There is one M.D. for all the Rehab patients and that physician is there only on certain days and is difficult to contact when needed so most of the care is placed in the hands of nurses and nurse techs. My father was blind, nearly deaf and recovering from a hip break. We had to put up signs noting his impairments just so that the attending staff understood his condition. During his stay a contagion became a concern and the ward went on a lock down. My father experienced diarrhea and was isolated. We watched as patients were moved along or out. We practiced clean room behavior but we were never informed about the cause of this outbreak. We did have two meetings prior to this incident with administration and lead nurses during my father's four week stay. I appreciated the openness and attempt to keep us informed however my family never felt a sense that our father's care was important. My father was rushed to the ER at Presbyterian one Sunday morning when the incoming RN found his vitals in poor condition. This lead nurse felt that my father had not been attended to during the night as simple attention to these vitals would have revealed his distress. My father was released from the ER to Hospice and died ten days later. My father was 91 years old so is it fair to say that the care at Spanish Trails hastened his death? I will conclude by saying that there was little sense of true medical care. This facility employs many nurse techs that are simply functionary not medical care providers. The doctors are part-time and covering too many charts, so lack of attention is just a fact. Do your due diligence and watch over your loved one and hope for the best.

The overall experience is not too bad. There have been issues getting a hold of my sister by phone and staff members not being able to help me find her when I'm there. I like the rooms there. I like the nurses and they try to help.

My husband hurt his elbow when driving to the rehab facility. The driver drove over a bump. They did bandage it but they were not really caring. No one has offered anything extra like an apology.

It is a nice building and the therapists were nice. The aides were understaffed.

My mother is doing good here. She got sore from the therapy and I told her that is good with working her muscles. She likes everybody she is working with here. Their friendliness was very good. She says they are all very nice. The nursing care is very good! The cleanliness is good. The meals are very good. If the person does not know the answer to my questions they find the right person. The social workers are very helpful with my questions and the nurse is good with updates.

Our stay here has gone very well. I would recommend the facility to a friend. It seems like the rehab services are very good. They do a great job with the cleanliness and have really kept up with her room. The meals have been pretty good. We are just now figuring out that you can order something different than what is being served. Generally, she has enjoyed them. They have been very informative.

I think overall, the care is pretty good but I would like more attentiveness. That would be good. Their meals are as good as a facility can be. The nursing was a little hard to communicate with and they were busy with a lot to do. It would be nice to talk to them more.

Overall, our stay has been good! Communication is terrible. I always have to pursue communication, even if I tell them to please call me. If it wasn't for me continuing to follow-up, I would never hear from them.

They just meet her needs for right now. I would like them to take a little bit more care, I think she is getting up at night and getting dressed. I had a meeting with them and they were all there. Their communication seemed okay.

Definitely would NOT send a loved one there. It’s beautiful to tour, but that’s it. Acoustics are terrible for hearing impaired folks, food is worse than a low-income school district, and good luck if you need to reach someone after 5pm when the receptionist leaves. Mom had a UTI that went undiagnosed for a good 2 weeks, and then the antibiotic they treated her with was not an effective drug. She is now in the hospital, delirious, because they didn’t treat her properly at the rehab. I don’t know if she’s ever going to be the same at 88.

Since my sister been there all she does is cry, the second day she was there one of the assistance took her a shower and left my sister in shower for approx. 20 minutes.. They do not care about there patients. They should be right there when they need them and they are not. They are there for the patient to make them happy from therapy to whatever else but they are not. I am not pleased at all with this place..

My husband has been at Spanish Trails for about 5 weeks. His stay started fine. It is a very clean facility and staff has been very helpful. But about 10 days ago I noticed things changing. Found out some of the regular staff (that I liked) had quit. Now the place is being staffed by agency people. They rotate in and out, they do not know anything about my husband ( who has dementia and can not fend for himself). This is the reason I moved him from his last place --- strangers were taking care of him. I will be talking to management and hoping this gets straightened out. I will update in a few weeks.

My sister wasn't put in here for therapy after a hospital stay they told her she would receive therapy every day. She then got c-diff not allowed to leave her room. She was told The therapist would come to her everyday. This did not happen. Today is Sunday. She has not had therapy since Thursday. She has asked every day with no results. She's also strict time frame with her medication. She is supposed to get her medicine every morning at 6:30 and every 8 hours after that. They're not even giving her her morning medication until 2:30 in the afternoon! The only reason she gets it then it's because she is asked ALL DAY for it. Her being confined to her room she cannot go out. The AIDS won't bring her water or answer her pages, she goes without things all day long! I've tried to call the nursing staff and the phone has been ringing for 20 minutes! NO One answers my calls and I cannot get any administrator or nursing director on the phone! This is Medicare fraud! They're charging patients for treatments they do not get, mistreating the patients and endangering them when they do not get the proper medication! We will be filing a formal complaint with state with Medicare and with a Better Business Bureau! Just because a place this place is all shiny and new does not mean it is a good place! If you care about your loved ones DO NOT bring them to Spanish Trails!

Please assess all reviews for Spanish Trails prior to obtaining their services. My personal comments on this facility are extended from a first hand account on how a member of my own family was treated. Although though surroundings are quite appealing, facility is under staffed (especially at night), Administration is unresponsive to concerns or questions related to care administered to patients. My family member was discharged from facility without physician's orders (upon meeting maximum allotted stay as per insurance carrier), instructions on "supervised" care/ well-being and without appropriate instruction on use of rollator (which our family purchased the day of her release, as facility delayed ordering unit). A formal complaint has been filed with New Mexico Department of Health.

I was there as a personal care giver for a client of mine who I've worked with for a few weeks. I was there for only an hour and once her son came to take her to her Dr. Appointment he noticed she had no depends, trash left in cabinets and her toilet was clogged. Her son was passed mad and got the staff to help us out as he was telling the nurse what was making him upset the nurse looks over at me and says "you've been here all day if you needed anything you needed to let us know!" Like that's my job? I already have one and thank God it's not at this place. Dont take your family here, hell I would not take my dog here, not my ex husband.
