There seemed to be confusion sometimes between what was told to me one day, and then different a few days later. For instance, on a Sunday, I was told that my SIL needed more protein drink. The nurse and I even counted out how much was left, until I could return with more (from out of state) on the Wednesday. When I got there, with a heavy carton of it, I was told she didn't need it, and did I want it back? I just left it. I also felt like I was not told enough about [name removed] condition, and I was one of her two POA's for Health! Some of my concerns were with Hospice, but the nurse in charge told me she couldn't tell me more, only to the name that was listed with hospice. ([name removed] oldest son-who didn't always share with me!) A friend told me that in Baton Rouge, where I live, hospice nurses leave documentation in the room. A folder containing such things as day and time of visit, BP of patient, etc. I definitely think this should be done in AL as well! You might also add that most people would not have been able to afford the extra expenses that [name removed] family was paying for extra "round the clock" care for her! Especially overnight. Why wasn't she able to be checked on during the night by an attendant already there?... Read more

Significantly nicer facilities than others, and they had both memory care for my dad and independent living for my mom.

We chose Somerby of Mobile over other facilities we looked at just because of the overall feeling that we got about the facility during our tour experience. The people and the building itself were all great! The staff have been very helpful and kind. They are so sweet to mom and the other residents there seem so happy. I would definitely recommend Somerby of Mobile to other families who are looking.

I never visited in person. My cousin has since moved out of Somerby and into an apartment in Mobile. She never took advantage of all the services and amenities and decided she couldn't afford to stay there. Her one negative comment, which may have been her perception only, was that the residents were expected to "dress" for meals in the dining room. She didn't want to dress up and rarely ate in the dining room.

Our family has had a good experience with memory care at Somerby of Mobile. I especially think that the people they have on staff there are great.

Food is the major issue. Soups are routinely too salty but usually hot. Food served sometimes cold or just warm enough to eat, etc. Unfortunately there are not a lot of options in this area for independent living. This facility and its potential sells its self and past history of apparently the good old days. Residents that have been here a long time feely tell how it used to be. Sales tours are very impressive and if you can afford it and can tolerate the food inconsistencies, you can live very comfortably here. But all that glitters is not gold. Another plus for here is you can move to assisted living and also memory care with out having to relocate to another facility.

We knew right away this was not the place for our loved one. We walked in and had a scheduled tour, but no one was at the front. We walked around the facility and no one stopped to ask us what we were doing. That is a safety issue. When I stopped a staff member, they were not professional or personable. We made sure to go on a weekend when there was no management there to see what it was like. We walked out within 5 minutes of being there.
Our family had an in person tour and it was less desirable then what we were looking for, it overall was just not the best tour experience.
Our loved one was only there for a few weeks but during her stay we had a wonderful experience. The staff took really great care of our loved one and we would absolutely recommend Somerby of Mobile to other families.

It is a great place
I thought Somerby of Mobile was very nice. It was also very expensive, and quite a long way from where we live. So unfortunately they were not a consideration for us.
Don't do it. It's all about the show. It looks nice but if your family member needs extra care, they don't want to do nothing. They kept sending her to the hospital and the hospital said my loved one wasn't getting her medication. The facility was responsible for providing her medications and they were not clearly. She suffered a fall (sliding out of her chair) and the staff left her on the floor until the ambulance came to pick her up off the floor and put her back in her chair. The staff had notified us of a few incidents except when she suffered bruised ribs and we were never contacted about this incident. Our loved one told us, not the staff. She had visible bruises. They gave a 30 day notice that she had to leave after this. Half the time she was there, she was in the hospital. If your family member doesn't need much care, it's nice. If they need anymore attention, this is not the place to go.

We had a good tour experience with Somerby of Mobile. It seems like a great facility to have a loved one in, but the location was too far from family
So far my experience has been terrible, the staff members aren't as good as my previous community, the meals aren't as good and they do not have as many activities. Hoping it gets better.
We chose Somerby of Mobile because when I called I got immediate response from them. I went in and toured the facility and everything looked really good and it is close to my home. His room size is wonderful, I was pleasantly surprised. The staff seems to know everyone well and recognize me when I walk in. I would recommend to others who are looking.

We toured Somerby and it was a very nice facility but too expensive for what we were looking for.
Somerby of Mobile is a very nice and clean community, and our loved one is very well cared for there. The meals and dining service are great, and they have a lot of activities for the residents to participate in. We just can't say enough good things about this community, it is perfect.

We chose Somerby of Mobile because they quickly responded to us when they found out we were looking and everything clicked and seemed like it would be a good fit. He loves the food here and has gained weight which is great. They have things here that I had not thought about such as access to therapy and doctors in house so you do not have to leave the facility. With every situation there has to be an adjustment period but we have gotten through that transition very satisfactory. I think everyone needs to give it a little time so that you can get where you want to be with the facility. It has been a good experience and I would absolutely recommend to others who are looking and already have.

I am very pleased with this community. I'm happy that we have in our area. It was just what my mother needed. I would highly recommend this community to others for their loved ones. Somerby has lots of activities for the residents to choose from.
