Silverado Senior Living - Escondido

Having not seen my elderly mother for over a year due to COVID, I was overjoyed to be able to go and spend her 89th birthday with her. Despite my being healthy with no symptoms of being ill, the facility refused to let me share lunch with my mother, because I could not remove my mask. When she realized they would not let me eat, she tried to give me her food. Finally, she left the table in anger and disgust. Even though I told her I was fine, she was angry and wanted me to leave, probably wanting me to go eat. Instead of being caring, thoughtful and creative, and arranging a place where we could share lunch, Silverado ruined my mother's birthday. Because of a medical condition, she also needs to eat on a regular schedule. This did not happen. I pray it's not the last one I have with her. To anyone reading this: find another facility to care for your loved one.

The only reason they are getting 2 stars is for a hand full of staff members that went above and beyond for my uncle who has gone on to greener pastures. I have visited all hours of the day experiencing all staff. Let's start with the good. It will be short. There are 1 or 2 nurses that actually interact with the residents besides giving pills. The good nurses never stay. There are maybe 3 or 4 caregivers that care and are properly trained. The food is for the most part good and the place is usually clean. Moving on to the bad. Unrealistic promises are made as soon as you walk thru the door by a non medical staff member who is clearly paid on commission. They are often short staffed which is obvious by the disheveled look on many staff members faces until they realize your present then an attempt at a fake smile is quickly produced. The Dhs [name removed] is quite cold and impersonal. Has been seen fleeing the scene when it gets crazy to leave the already burnt out staff to deal with it. There are residents who are violent and should be in mental facilities but in order to keep that money flowing they are left here for the poor staff to get beat up on or even worse other residents. They don't control residents from going in wrong rooms stealing items. Nurses seem detached only focusing on giving pills and sitting in the office. The 1 or 2 nurses and caregivers that did interact with the residents unfortunately have left. Or been pushed out. Very sad. Obviously those who don't follow corporate protocol and stand up for what's right for the residents have no place here. Last but definitely not least activities... sitting at a table speaking Spanish about family issues with one or 2 residents at a table isn't activities. I believe an entire family works here. Sisters, husband, cousins. Very unprofessional! And in the evening's non existent. I have even witnessed a husband/ wife? Boyfriend/ girlfriend? who both work here arguing in a common area. Outings are often not properly staffed or attended with any medical staff. But hey their calendar looks good and that's what's important right? Yeah the animals are great if they live. I used to enjoy the rabbits but was informed they died from no water. Inhumane! Ok if i haven't convinced you by now this place puts on a great show but don't be fooled it's all smoke and mirrors.

Wonderful place with outstanding loving care. While Silverado Is not one of the newer places in town, it proved to be the best place for my Mom. My Mom just passed away this spring and was at Silverado for almost 3 years. She had no serious illness other than dementia & memory loss and sadly lost the ability to walk - even though she always thought she could. My Mom was a bit difficult to handle at times, but the entire Silverado staff was able to manage her so very well. She was their Jersey girl, with a bit of a Jersey attitude; but she left this world a happy person, and I have Silverado & their staff to thank for that. When my Mom first needed to go into a care facility, my husband & I visited Silverado and decided to place my Mom somewhere else. After three months, and it wasn’t working out, I took her to Silverado, and it’s the best move I was able to make. When you watch the staff there at work, it’s amazing that they’re able to keep everything in such good clean order, with all the residents also being very well attended to. There are a lot of special needs people there, and they seem to be able to handle it all. So - If you don’t need a new, fancy place for your loved one to live, but you’re looking good loving care, Silverado is the place.

Silverado Escondido provides daycare, single overnight Respite along with longer Respite, and full term. This home is dedicated to providing the best care and support for the families, while at the same time loving on the patients. It's a social setting, like a Senior Center with supervision. I'm very impressed with the services and the staff.

My dad enjoys staying here. The staff is nice they interact and care about the residents. The residents seem to enjoy being here. They offer a variety of things to do. The food is good. The community is clean and well maintained.

My husband had been at Silverado Escondido for day care so I was familiar with their community and it is set-up well for Alzheimers/dementia care. But I felt that when it came time to find a place for my husband that it was just too busy an atmosphere for him and he would have trouble adjusting and just be too confusing. It was a nice experience, but it wasn't the right fit for my husband.

This was not the best fit for my dad. They was not able to care for him and they were not meeting his needs. More staffing is needed to improve the issue of providing care.

I would recommend this community to anyone who can afford it. It is the Cadillac of Memory Care.

very helpful made a bad situation better

I have little to no complaints about my tour of this community. The staff where all very friendly to my mother and I and made sure to answer any questions we had for them about there community. It would have been one of our top choices but was over 20 miles away and was very expensive for what they had to offer.

They are very professional and they really go to he extra mile.

Overall Silverado Escondido has really been great for my husband. There was one incident where a caregiver left his side for a brief moment and during that time he thought he could walk and decided to get up, then fell and broke his hip. After going back there from the hospital stay that followed they have given him extremely close attention and excellent care. Everything seems to be getting along and he is making progress.

The staff at Silverado really love what they do. I appreciate how much they want to care for and love on my Grandpa as he lives with Alzheimer's. I can go about my day and the things I need to do without worrying about him as much as I did before moving him to Silverado. He may not understand what's going on most of the time, but he's adjusted well and seems happy, which is very important to me.

My loved one is doing quite well here! She seems very happy, and looks like she is really enjoying herself. The staff are very attentive, and always very willing to engage both with the residents and with family members. They've also been very accommodating throughout the whole process.

They just didn't seem as organized or as friendly as other communities we had looked at. The area was dark and seemed like a lonely setting. The residents seem to be in the later stages of Alzheimer so our loved one would not have as much in common. Overall it was a pretty good community but it just wasn't the right fit for my loved one.

Silvarado was memory care exclusively. It very nice and would have met most of our needs. Approximately twice as large as Lake Springs. The cost quoted was for a shared apartment.

Wonderful programs, one of best at memory care. Room-mates, common showers.

Such a warm and homely atmosphere. I liked that there were pets, dogs and cats, throughout the place. People looked content, actively involved instead of just sitting around in wheelchairs sleeping.
