For some people, this will be perfect. If your loved one is quiet, doesn't want / need much mental stimulation, and wants a quiet, homey environment - this is perfect. The other home is larger, and perhaps better laid out. The staff are VERY caring. But, they aren't trained to handle all types of patients. Here is what your visit will tell you: - wonderful, gourmet meals. Reality - everything bought from Costco. - take residents in golf cart for excursions to fruit stand - once in three months - shower facility is shared (and you are shown one in hallway). Reality - shared shower is through the master bedroom where there are residents. Imagine having an Alzheimer's patient who needs consistency - and *sometimes* it is ok to go through the room, but other times (when on your own), it's not ok - fast food Friday - where burgers or pizza is brought in - Reality? Once in a while. There are no special movies or activities - the TV is on all the time - but often to news. If a resident doesn't fit the mold, the in house doctor is brought in to attempt to fix the situation - and more meds are thrown at the person. They ARE one price. They DO care. But they need more training, and are not well equipped to handle dementia patients. And the owner tends to exaggerate (I was NOT told of a fall - but was told that my father had "ripped the toilet from the floor meaning a new toilet." No. The screws were loose. He lost his balance, fell, and ended up in the tub. While falling, he grabbed for the toilet and knocked it a bit - not enough to even leak. I am the one who made the decision, and had to do so on short notice. If you need memory care, go somewhere they are trained to provide. If you do not need memory care, these folks are very caring.
