I feel strongly that I need to write this review. My mother, an 88 year old with dementia and diabetes has recently been removed from this home. My sister and I chose this home, when like many other families, we found ourselves with few options. Our mother is on medicaid, and placement is difficult. We supplemented the medicaid payment with 400.00 dollars monthly from our personal accounts. The home is clean and attractive, so two years ago we moved her in. It was a struggle from the beginning. The caregivers consist of a husband and wife team. They have three school age children, which was appealing as my mother is a former piano teacher, and she loves young people. As it turned out, caring for three children, along with four elderly residents is too much for the couple to handle. My complaints: the husband is gruff and uncompromising when it comes to caring for the elderly, particularly dementia patients. He expected my mother to "obey" him, was inflexible and often cruel. More than once he threate ned my mother with eviction because she wouldn't comply with his requests that she go to bed "on time". He had no regard for my mother's dignity at all. Honestly, what kind of man threatens an 88 year old woman with dementia? On one occasion he accused my mother of flushing the toilet too many times...motivated I am certain by his wish to save money on water bills. The couple also questioned the amount of toilet paper she used! The leads me to the next complaint. Light bulbs were left in ceiling and bath fixtures but were unscrewed just enough so that they didn't come on. One of the bulbs came crashing to the floor and could have caused injury to my mom. Fortunately, she wasn't standing underneath the fixture at the time. I often went to see my mother and entered her room to see she was sitting in the dark. This is a good time to say that between my sister and I , we visited the home an average of five days per week. The most egregious thing that happened was a couple of days following an eviction threat. My mother was called to lunch (on an intercom... she is hard of hearing). She didn't show up for lunch, and when the caregiver finally checked on her she was unresponsive with a blood sugar of 23. By the time the medics arrived she had a blood sugar of 11 and had to be taken to the emergency room. In my opinion, this was clearly a retaliation to her "not obeying". We have since moved our mother. I hope that anyone considering this home will think twice. Nothing stated on the brochure is accurate. Please beware.
