Special Place/Perfect for my mum

In helping my mother find a place that fit her needs at 91 we were advised to take a look at Rideau Manor and glad we did. She has now been living there for 3 months and is settling in beautifully. Location is optimum for those who still like to get out and about being close to skytrain, buses and major streets. However the building is tucked into a lovely area of trees and walking spaces and protected by other buildings giving it a very comfortable homey feel. The staff are lovely and very helpful going out of their way to accommodate. The building itself has been upgraded in a most comfortable way so it does not feel too 'modern' and radiates cleanliness and comfort. Programs and amenities are all available if the resident chooses to use them....nothing missing. One tiny thing that may need consideration is that due to the building being originally built in the 70's and for student residences, the elevators are smaller than more modern senior facilities. Occasionally the wait after meals can be longer than one would like and you cannot fit wheelchairs or scooters in the elevators at all. Walkers will fit but take up the space of another person so on occasion patience is needed. I would say that mum couldn't have found a better place that allows her to continue her lifestyle with ease being close to everything she needs in her church, stores, transportation and she also has a fantastic view over Grouse Mtn,, Seymour Mtn and downtown Vancouver. Keep up the great work Rideau!... Read more

Not the Place it used to be!

Mother has been at Rideau for over 10 yrs. Ownership has changed a few times and as result service/quality levels have fluctuated. In general the staff are friendly, caring and professional. Unfortunately the newest owner Sienna has had difficulty with its management staff. There has been a constant stream of different managers with different expectations and management styles over the past few years. Current manager is a yes person who tells you what you want to hear but does not follow through. There is a serious rodent problem in the building that has not been addressed. Do not put your family member in this building until you speak to residents. This is an old build that has required many repairs and upgrades. These upgrades/repairs continue to be done with little or no thought to the comfort or convenience of the residents. Management is basically incompetent. Due to a water leak The dining room has been closed for over three weeks. Residents have been eating in the exercise room buffet style all this time. Make sure you do your homework before signing up to come here. Speak to residents who have experienced the inconveniences in this building. Do not let the management fool you as to what is going on. The current manager has no idea what is happening in the building and is basically a PR person. YOU CAN DO BETTER FOR YOUR FAMILY MEMBER!!!!!!!!

A nice place. Jackie was friendly and informative. Amica at Rideau Manor is centrally located, close to Brentwood Mall and SaveOn Food, Whole Foods and some restaurants. The upper floors have nice views. The 1 bedroom units have good layouts, adequate for 1 person. The common rooms are pleasant and clean. The price includes weekly housekeeping and laundry, 3 meals and lifeline and more. Looks like a care free and comfortable place to stay. The residents look well dressed and polite.

Amica Review

My mother has been in Amica approximately 10 months now. For the most part, she loves everything about Amica, the activities, the staff, the meals, the house cleaners, etc. What bothers her is the constant change of staff she has seen since she has been there. Scott left without a good bye, the black fellow at the desk disappeared, the cooks in the kitchen are all being replaced and I think there was another staff person who left. As you know, older people don't like change and I hope you are working to keep happy staff there...
