About the facility Oaks at Douglasville

Oaks at Douglasville is just minutes away from Wellstar Douglas Hospital, shopping, and dining. The stylish craftsman style property features 52 assisted living apartments and 34 memory care apartments. Each aspect of the community has been built with the best interests of elders in mind, fulfilling a mission that CEO Alex Salabarria and his father began more than two decades ago.
The Salabarria family’s commitment to being personally available to residents, their family members and staff is what sets them apart from most senior living operators.
Some unique amenities offered include all day dining, bird aviaries, aquariums, community pets, separate secured memory care, chapel, putting green, children's playground and on site physical and occupational therapy.
Their multi-generational approach creates a family-like culture. Visitors from local daycare centers, schools, churches and various organizations often are in the communities, bridging the gap between multiple generations.
The family’s mission is to provide an environment where people are valued and appreciated, honoring personal choice and providing a sense of purpose while enabling meaningful relationships.
Family Operated assisted living and memory care serving GA since 1998.

Nice place for most but didn't meet our needs.

Facility was very nice and staff was friendly. But, I felt there was some inflexibility in regards to Mother's needs. Activities were not adapted for someone with limited eye sight. We made a couple of requests which we felt were reasonable and were told they didn't have the staff to accommodate those requests. One was simply to have someone spend 5 minutes with her after dinner to make sure her TV was working and on the station for her shows. We ended up pulling her out after about 2 months because she was so unhappy there.

Oaks at Douglasville review

Cost is a lot but he qualified for veterans benefits so that helped a lot. He has adjusted and the workers have reached out with issues or concerns which is great since we are far away. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families.

Recommended to most

I would recommend Oaks at Douglasville to most people. However, it was not a good fit for my Mother. The facility is very clean and most of the staff was wonderful. I found the head nurse to be somewhat inflexible when I tried to explain my Mother's needs. The move-in process was smooth. The meals were pretty good with an alternative menu if the resident does not like/want the planned meal.

My loved one is currently a resident at Oaks at Douglasville. The cleanliness and care services are good. The friendliness and value for cost are great. My suggestion for improvement: provide more activities for the Memory Care residents. Overall, I would recommend this facility to family and friends.

it's better than the rest

when I first moved my loved one in, things were a lot better than how they are now. they've switched management a couple times, which has ultimately effected the care services, staffing and quality of the food. it's obvious that their budget has gotten tight; the food is just above average now, whereas it was excellent before. my overall rating of this community has declined a little because of the changes in management. aside from those things, the activities are still good, they keep the residents busy. everyone there is also very friendly.

Highly recommend

We chose Oaks at Douglasville because after visiting other places, we were very impressed with their approach and with our initial meetings and that has carried on through with her stay here. It gave us a comfortable feeling which is what we were looking for. They pay attention to the safety and health of residents, the staff are very attentive and they always keep an open line of communication with family. I would absolutely recommend to others

Just What We Were Looking For

It is a beautiful community and really, really nice. The residents were relaxed during our tour and they had it decorated beautifully for Christmas. The staff were good at allowing us to move in during a specific time. They were also able to give us time to move my loved one's items out after my loved one's passing. There is plenty of parking for visitors. The have a focus on memory care, and they call it Horizon. You can go into hospice in the community, so your loved one doesn't have to move again.

Overall a great place

It is expensive, but, the friendliness of the staff members go way above a five on the rating scale, everyone there has been phenomenal. The quality of the food is not good, but they do have a lot of activities going on, they are just great. Our loved one has made friends, and is really enjoying her time there.

Proceed with Caution

Overall we've not had a good experience. My loved one tells me the food is bland and sparse. They definitely need some help in the kitchen. There's been a big turnover in staff, and I've seen an improvement since then. I'm hopeful that the new management is going to make a difference. Some of the previous staff were ugly in their expectations of my loved one to do more than she was physically able to do. A couple were nasty to her in their language, which has been addressed since we reported it. One person said "Don't push that button. I'm not coming back." However, the new executive director has been fabulous. He seems to have more communication skills and doesn't push things off. He just goes and does it. When something needs to be done, he just calls me. He's been very nice.
