Parking in dining room

Right round dining room table by window are multiple dining room chairs and walkers parked. Two wheelchairs and three walkers are normally added to that table! Servers CANNOT get through. Need two square tables instead of a round!

Beautiful facility- wonderful views from windows. Strong in most areas with occasional lapses. Caring servers and caregivers. Value in various areas could be improved given high cost.

Dining room experiences

I look forward to meals in the dining room. Good food eaten with friends. Sometimes meals are tasty but not warm. Sometimes almost inedible tough meat, hard to chew, mushy vegetables. It is improving. Services as a whole do a great job.

a comfortable place

This is a very comfortable place with a friendly and helpful staff/ The facility is well maintained with pleasant common areas. Residents are also friendly and we have met many new friends. Food is usually very good with alternative choices if a selection is not to our liking. The excellent transportation service is helpful, since we not longer drive.

Think twice about putting your loved one in Oakmont, it's not the care that they promise

They made the facility sound wonderful when I moved my mom in, but they continued to have a lot of staff turnover, there weren't enough staff to adequately care for the residents or provide stimulating activities for them, as had been indicated. Most of the time when I visited they were just watching tv, playing bingo or jeopardy, which most couldn't understand. There wasn't much one to one interaction and a lot of the time people were just sitting alone with nothing to do. The staff didn't seem to care and didn't appear to be trained sufficiently to care for residents with Alzheimer's. I believe my mom;s mental and physical health suffered under their care due to their lack of care or training. When her mental health failed, as it does with Alzheimer's patients, the staff didn't know how to handle her outbursts, and we were asked to leave. They had no problem taking our money until she became hard to handle and then they didn't want anything to do with her. Once in a board and care facility, she had people who knew what they were doing and that actually cared about her well-being, and it was less expensive. I will also add that when my mom fell one day in the hallway another resident's family member saw her on the floor and told the staff member on duty and her response was "who is it?" Once she was told the name she then said "Oh, she does that sometimes" rather than getting up and checking her right away. It wasn't until the lady said I've never seen her do that and she looks like she's in pain. My mom had fallen and fractured her arm.

The healthcare system is hard to understand

Not only did me and other relatives talk, but we've also talked to hospice and healthcare workers that come into Oakmont. It's a pretty good place; it has issues, but then as the healthcare workers say, "We've seen a lot of facilities and this place is okay, it's nice." It's pricey and it does have its issues, but the staff and management are addressing those issues and trying to correct them, which I like a lot.

Don't put your mom there

We put our mom at Oakmont of Fullerton in [date removed]. Our first complaint was she did not get her clothes back from laundry. Always someone else's clothes. Second they did not help her shower. She needed help in turning on the shower and she could shower herself. I would have to do that when I visited her weekly. Then in [date removed], she was violently attacked by a resident there. A large man hit our 4'11"mom in the back of the head and when she fell to the ground he kicked her in her back and fractured her vertebrae. He was removed by the police and she had to be taken to the hospital. They showed no regard for her care when she was brought back from the hospital and did not give her pain meds The management can care less about your family there. Management did not even know my mom was brought back from the hospital and laying in her room crying. My mom was in memory care. There was no excuse for them not checking on her when she got back from hospital. Managers need to be replaced.

Do Your Research

You need to really be invloved, to ensure that your loved one is taken care of. There were issues with the trasition of staff, including the Executive Director leaving. The food menus look okay. Paying more money than before. It was different going in during COVID.

Tour experience

Oakmont of Fullerton is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL facility. It was new and up to date and the grounds were so pretty. The staff were all great and did a good job with their follow up after our tour. Unfortunately it was extremely expensive. If the price would have been lower I would have loved to had my dad here. In fact I would move in here today myself if I could it was that nice.

They said we would have fine dining moved in early March had a fine dining meal yet. You never get a straight answer or standard answer yes that’s corporate we can’t do anything do you think by now that is being a brand new facility that’s better but it’s not my recommendation look elsewhere it’s not worth the money

DON'T COME HERE

Coming here was the worst mistake I have made. The staff are told to rush and often times we are ignored. My daughter is getting me out and I am blessed to be able to leave. We tried working with the coordinator of care but she is as phony as they come. It was all lies from the start. A dear care manager who recently resigned let me know that that the coordinator brought certain employees from another home and apparently they were all fired or forced to leave due to their terrible attitude. I hope this place gets new management soon.

Pleased with our experience

We chose Oakmont of Fullterton because of all of the above reason where I gave them a 5. The room sizes here are good size for what it is needed for. I do think they could have more communication with family members, maybe updates bi-weekly or something like that. But they are quick to answer and very responsive whenever I call. Overall I would recommend to others looking.
