North Street Senior Residences

Tenants are allowed to smoke just outside the building (about 10 feet from the front of the building) and homeless people forever camping out on the bus stop which is less than 20 feet from the front of the building and they use the property as a toilet. Management is aware but hasn't done anything. There are only three washers and dryers for approximately 60 tenants which never get cleaned. Tenants sit out front of the entrance all day into the evening talking and camp out in the lobby. Former manager was effective in taking corrective actions but left and the current manager, while absolutely a gem, seems to do little to stop the smoking. The place has great potential and is very attractive but there are serious issues that seem to be getting worse each year.

I can only hope people who may be looking at this place will read the reviews before renting here. STAY AWAY at all costs! The first manager was a vindictive liar, obviously not someone who should have been in management. It is such a detriment to the tenants. Then the second manager comes along who is not any better. She is nasty, unqualified, the opposite of helpful and just doesn't know what she's doing! She locks herself in the office to avoid tenants; that is when she shows up for work. It is extremely hard living there with this inept manager. Please Please PLEASE look elsewhere. There are so many horrific stories that the tenants have been subjected to regarding management. It's hard to believe, but so true. Hopefully, if anyone is looking here, they will read this review.

Stay away. New manager has a closed door policy with appointments on an emergency basis. Tenant issues not resolved by owners and property management who insist that the local police department handle (much to the chagrin of the police). Maintenance personnel insist that the tenants perform routine housekeeping which they claim isn't their responsibility. So many issues, including very limited available parking for tenants (tenant guests and other visitors take up tenant parking leaving off site parking for some tenants). Looks nice from the outside but limited budget to keep the place clean inside. Owner (The Community Builders) and property management (Habitat America) focus on collecting (and raising) rents and leave vulnerable tenants to fend for themselves against a hostile tenant for over two years who threatens other tenants. Lots of homeless people guesting with management approval! Only 3 washers and dryers for 52 units (and the homeless guests) and water temperature regulated at 120 degrees! Keep away.

Lovely exterior and manicured landscaping but limited budget for interior maintenance which the property manager feels is the responsibility of tenants. Poor construction throughout and minimal soundproofing between apartments. Tenants charged for normal wear-and-tear. Institutional versus independent living with inexperienced and, sorry to admit, unfriendly property management who lack customer service and diplomatic skills. Limited unassigned parking without proper security--tenants fight over available spaces. High tenant turnover which is good for the owners and investors as rents are increased following each vacancy. Better properties under excellent management are available. North Street Senior Residences should be last on the list for overall value, sustainable long term housing, pleasant and stress-free environment. The jail part of the historic building looks great but are only 450 square feet and very noisy.

Shoddy construction throughout and poor building management overall although the exterior and grounds are well kept. The community is run as an institution with an inexperienced and unfriendly community manager. Look elsewhere and consider North Street Senior only as a last resort in your search for quality retirement housing. Avoid renting any property "managed" by Habitat For America.

The manager is HORRIBLE! My toilet overflowed and I reported it immediately. Maintenance came over. Manager said I had to pay for the damages because I didn't report it. BUT she admitted to me maintenance told her I reported it and he was here. Now she has deducted the monies from the rent saying I owe rent. She is very shady, conniving and you can't trust her. So many tenants have moved out because of her, and 5 more are on their way out, 6 including me. Don't put yourself in this position. It is a senior complex and we don't need this. Hope this helps anyone considering moving here.

I lived at this resident for almost 2 years. If you like being controlled by management and sitting in a rocking chair; You will be fine. Management was cold and very controlling. Only happy when you agreed with her ( [Removed]). Maintenance employee was very pleasant and nice all the time. His name was [Removed] and he was a very hard worker. [Removed] made it easy for me to stay as long as I did.

Nice community for seniors who all ready to be controlled by management and are ready to just sit back in a rocking chair.

My mom seems to like her new home. The manager is very helpful and resourceful. The community is fairly new and well kept. There are benches outside to enjoy the green landscape. North Street Senior Residences does not offer very many social activities. However, there is a Senior Center nearby.

Price is good but rooms are small. Landlord cold and never smiles.

Love living here. Community Manager and Maintenance always available, friendly and eager to please. Apartment size and added convenience of on-site laundry facility makes North Street Apartments a wonderful place to live.
