I am pleased to be able to write this review in support of the quality and outstanding care I received when admitted to the Luxor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Mills Pond in St. James New York. After being in a hospital for several weeks, being treated for an autoimmune disease, unrelated to COVID 19, once stabilized I was transferred to the rehabilitation facility. This would allow me to improve an increased level of independence so that I would be able to go into an Assisted Living center or to go back to my home. I, my wife, and family, as I am sure many of you would, had a great deal of anxiety regarding the adjustment and quality of care I would receive at a rehabilitation and long-term nursing care center. Let me state at the outset, without question, my choice to stay at the Luxor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center was the right choice. From the time I was admitted to the day of my discharge every single individual, everyday, gave me excellent and quality care which during my six month stay reduced my anxiety to zero. You could say that the care given to me was like a well oiled machine, or a pie where every piece fit together perfectly. There was great communication between all departments which assured that the care I received was seamless. I am pleased to say that the level of care I received was far beyond what I expected from a rehabilitation and nursing home. There is an old adage that states, "It is not the job that one does but it is the person that does that job". I wish I could name all of the outstanding caregivers but here are just a few who deserve special recognition: The Housekeeping staff, Social Worker department, [name removed] in admissions, [name removed] in finance, [name removed] in Nursing, [name removed] and [name removed] in administration, [names removed] in Nursing, and especially [names removed], the best Certified Nursing Assistants I could have hoped to have taking care of me. Should anyone need Long Term Rehabilitation or Nursing Care, The Luxor Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center at Mills Pond in St. James New York is the place to be. I can assure, without question, that those who are there will receive excellent quality care far above and beyond what is expected and which is given to all patients and residents. They will receive empathy, concern, patience, and heartfelt caring. The outstanding staff made a choice to pursue a career path that requires passion, compassion, patience, and discipline, which is currently exacerbated by COVID 19. Most people have an underlying fear of being dependent on someone else for their basic day to day functions, specially with strangers. I am writing this review as a current patient at the Luxor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Mills Pond here for short-term sub-acute rehabilitation. The facility itself has a very dull or drab appearance, and was likely built in the 1970's. Some areas such as the lower are run down and don't appear to have been touched since then. The food is horrible and is often cold by the time it's served. This includes over cooked eggs with tasteless generic fillers or drinks, and things like some type of pressed meat with bland potatoes and raw vegetables. About service you can sometimes wait over an hour for staff to respond to call lights or requests for meds, and they often forget to request re-orders on things like pain meds, where you might wait for hours in severe pain. The "gym" is a cramped converted office with equipment from the 1970's, where clients often spill over into the hallway. The only positive is the PT and OT staff, which are excellent and the only reason I'm still here.

New owners are as bad as previous owners. Woefully understaffed, substandard food and laundry. Owners create an adversarial, backstabbing environment for staff. They lure you in with promises and visual images, decor but actual care and services is poor. Stay away.

Please be VERY careful about sending your loved ones to this facility!!! If I could give it negative stars, I would, and I could not be more sorry that I listened to SBU saying this is a 5 star facility. They charge double per day what any other facility charges and for that your get: a phone system where frustrating is an understatement. They acknowledge there are problems with it but never fix it. It is very hard to get through to anyone and when you leave messages nobody ever gets back to you. I was looking to have my mother transferred to another facility (she was on the dementia floor at the Luxor) and the new facility had a terrible time getting the information they needed from the Luxor. One time they were given a contact to speak with about my mother and that contact did not know who or where she was. The transfer to the new facility was significantly delayed because they would get one answer from one person then a different one from another. They were told she been given a required covid test the week she was supposed to transfer. When the new facility did not get the results in a timely fashion they were informed it had actually been given on Thursday. Then when her doctor at the new facility examined her today what he saw with her did not even closely match what the Luxor told them (the Luxor stated that she is nonverbal, immobile, unable to eat, etc.). I am not a doctor, but even so, just the times I visited her at the Luxor told me that this is absolutely not true. It is quite clear that the Luxor cared not a bit for her and simply left her in her room as long as she was not a problem to them. I could not feel more strongly that this is not the right facility to "care" for anyone's loved ones.

They have been wonderful from the beginning with my mom. My mom, herself feels very comfortable and safe there, and that in itself is half the battle. I would absolutely recommend them, they've been wonderful.

The nursing care is very good and the medications are on time. The therapy at Luxor Nursing and Rehabilitation seems as though it has been inconsistent.

The staff is very friendly and if you ask for something they get it. A few times you have to wait for things. The food is not really good but overall it is a good place.

It is difficult to rate her experience at Luxor Nursing and Rehabilitation. She is not a good patient and she hates being there. That said, taking it from a more sensible mindset the experience at Luxor Nursing and Rehabilitation has been good. They have excellent staff and the nurses have been great. There's nothing offhand that they can do or that I can candidly think of that they can improve. Everything for her has been done and it has been done well.

I am very frustrated. It is hard to communicate and I am not local. I rely on communication and it is not good at this point. I have left several messages for them.

My mother is starting to have a little better mobility, the therapy seems good. There have been issues with my mother's clothes going missing and some staff is not being able to give me information about my mother when I ask.
