When I toured this facility on behalf of my mother, I was very impressed with the cleanliness and reviews of residents who said the food was wonderful. The owners were very willing to meet my mother's dietary desires. My mother moved in and LOVED the food, which was almost all made from scratch and from organic ingredients. Lots of meat and dairy and fresh fruit and vegetable salads. It became clear, however, that Love & Hope is intended to provide room and board, and some hygiene assistance, to patients who have low needs for care. Patients with mild dementia were tolerated, but if they became frustrated or impatient, they and their families were let know they were being difficult. My mother was 75% paralyzed and only able to feed herself, so needed to be diapered, showered, and lifted into bed and onto a chair. I was frequently told how much physical work her care required, even though it was clear from the outset that those were her needs, and I was charged a high rate commensurate with the higher level of care. Her dementia became worse, and she was lectured about how her actions were disruptive. The only entertainment or activities offered the residents was a man who came to play piano for an hour every few weeks. No games, no books, no puzzles, no movie nights, and the only celebrations were initiated by family members. Residents are encouraged to park themselves someplace and stay there until they are called for a meal. Staff have little time to spend with the residents. One of the issues there is the fact that the residents are on 2 floors of the house. The 2 who live on one level have their meals there, and rarely go to the second floor, which is larger. Staff have a lot of real estate to cover when caring for residents. The furnishings in Love and Hope have been transitioned recently to modern and black. Black leather in the living room, black table and chairs in the dining room, black furniture on the sun porch. No natural wood, no earth tones on the main floor. Homier on the lower floor, but not by much. Not what most elderly people are used to in their environments. My mother died after 4 months at Love & Hope, and I now regularly visit a gentleman who was moved to a different AFH after his physical and mental needs became a burden. The place he is in now is not as clean and the food is more exotic, but there are card games and puzzles going on, the residents are encouraged to spend time together in the family room or living room, and the staff are always around, available to help or to offer some company. One day when I went the staff were hanging balloons and decorating to celebrate a birthday. It feels like a family home. I guess it depends what a person needs from a place that could be their last home. If they just want good food and a warm, clean place to sleep and watch TV, Love and Hope is for them. If they want to make friends or be stimulated in their last years they should look someplace else.

Mom lived in four assisted-living facilities before coming to Love and Hope Adult Family Home in March of 2015. The care she receives there far surpasses anything she experienced in those four prior facilities. She is not treated like a patient or a client--she is treated like a beloved member of their family. They feed her lovely home-cooked meals, make sure she is always properly groomed (she has gone blind and cannot do this herself), they keep her physically active with daily exercise, and they keep her mentally active with daily games of Trivial Pursuit and with stimulating conversations about local and world events. The other residents are always folks who are carefully chosen to make sure that they will get along with each other and that they will not create a dangerous or upsetting atmosphere for anyone living there. I really could not be more pleased.

My mom loves it at Love and Hope. They are so kind and gentle with her and they never leave her waiting when she needs assistance. She also raves about [removed]'s cooking! It always smells so good when I'm there that I wish I could move in, too! I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

At first when I checked out "Love and Hope". The place seemed very nice. It was clean and smelled like good food cooking. They seemed eager for my dad to stay there, saying that they take care of people until the end of life. My brother made the comment that they were nice, but seemed like used car salesmen. After the first night he was there, they told me he wasn't a good match for their place. He hade woke up several times the night before and woke other clients. They were extremely rude saying that I didn't know my father (who I talked on the phone every day and an over night visit weekly). I thought it was terrible they were only giving my dad, who was 93 and had always lived on his own 1 night to adjust to his new environment. We decided to take him out of there, but before we were able to I was visiting him in his room. Laura came back to the room and harassed me by saying I was a problem, and that they would only talk to my brother. I was trying to avoid her and just visit my dad. She was the most unsympathetic, rude person I have ever encountered. I would not recommend this place.
