My mom passed away 4 weeks after moving in there. However, I think she had very good care during her short time there. Yes, I would recommend. We picked this community because it was close to home, offered a competitive price and was well rated.

The place is small and it is like a home environment. They all (the ones that can) sit around a large family style table to eat. They have a good schedule for the day and that is good for the residents. They can see and smell the staff cooking meals just like at home and they like the food. [name removed] the owner led me through different phases my mom went through over a period of nine months and was so helpful.

I feel that they do not individualize the care of the residents much. The temperature is very low inside the facility when I go to visit. They could definitely improve on the meals. They are not balanced or healthy meals. It is mostly a sandwich and chips that are served. The staff is very friendly though, they could just overall use some improvements.

Response from Lakehouse On Dixie
October 4, 2022Thank you for your review. Lakehouse On Dixie creates care plans for every resident coming in. These plans are created by the family member that has medical power of attorney and myself. These plans are also constantly evolving as the resident ages in place with us. Our care plans can include letting a resident sleep later into the day or putting a resident to bed a little earlier offering special meals, special snacks Curling hair taking a resident outside daily etc. We have three air conditioners that are set at 73°. When they cycle on, they blow cold air. You may have been visiting during one of the times that the AC cycled on and got a very good gust of cold air. We have blankets that the ladies in the living room use.. In reference to our meals. For breakfast on Monday Wednesdays and Fridays we offer grains cereals oatmeal fruit. On Tuesday Thursday Saturday and Sunday we have biscuits waffles pancakes scrambled eggs hashbrowns Bacon sausage etc. etc. Those are our big breakfast days of the week. Our lunch meals are our big meals. Our lunch is served at 11 AM. For example we offer meatloaf spaghetti bake pork chops or chicken lasagna tenderloins also on the plate you will find a vegetable and a side that can be macaroni and cheese scallop potatoes pea salad etc. etc. add 2 PM it’s dessert and that can be cakes, cookies banana pudding etc. Our small meal is our dinner meal and that is served at 4 PM . That can be chicken tenders fish sticks sandwiches served along with french fries tater tots fruit etc.
The staff were all so kind and very attentive to my mom. They were just overall great and I truly believe that this is where she was meant to be when she passed. She was only here a short amount of time but they were wonderful. I would most definitely recommend Lakehouse on Dixie to other families looking for care for their loves ones.
I may have hit the wrong time of day, but I didn’t like the smell. It smelled very strongly of cleaning supplies.
The tour itself was good overall. The first thing we smelled when we walked in was bleach - which told me it was clean, yet it was overwhelming. And the facility needs some updating. There are a lot of places to sit in the main areas, but the furniture is dated. Of course that has nothing to do with the care. The patients there looked like they were well cared for. Based on the residents they had at the time, It seemed like more of a memory care facility. I didn't like that they did not have two staff members there 24/7. For a period of time they just have one staff member, so if a resident requires two people to put them to bed, then they have to be in bed by a certain time due to that staffing limitation. There is a large lake behind the facility. But you can only look at it - you can’t walk around it. And the path around the house barely fits a walker. But the staff were very nice, especially when they learned that my parents were hearing impaired. When I brought my mom to tour, they all greeted her at the door and had learned how to sign "hello." One of them even signed "Hello, my name is ___” and spelled out her name, which impressed me. Even though it was not the right fit for my parents, it seemed like a good facility.
I toured Lakehouse on Dixie. The house is quite old, probably 1970's construction, but it was reasonably clean. The staff was kind and friendly. The residents appeared clean and well cared for. Nothing fancy here, but looks to be a safe place for someone with dementia.

It's difficult during the Covid era, because my exposure was limited to 1 hour per week. But I found it to be well run, and nice and clean. There were limited indoors activities due to Covid (like bingo, television). Overall, they're very nice. The staff is very friendly, very courteous, and they seem to really care.

We chose Lakehouse on Dixie because of the size of the facility, services offered, as well as the price. The room sizes here were adequate and met his needs. The staff were great, they were proactive with my fathers care and great with communication. I would recommend to others looking.

I really love the homey feeling and all female staff. The monthly cost met my mom’s budget. It’s definitely on the list for consideration.

Like the small number of patients and the intimacy of being in a more homelike atmosphere. The aide to patient ratio is also very nice.
