Faculty and staff may have good intentions but their communication skills are lacking. They have very few condiments, the line to get food has a wall that is 5 ft high and difficult to see over and communicate with staff over especially in a wheel chair. Lots of fried food and difficult to eat well with diabetes.

Juniper Village has a very relaxing and comforting atmosphere, almost like you are in your own home. My interaction with the staff has been very positive. They go out of their way to help you. Housekeeping is great and the ladies listen to your concerns and requests on how the room is to be cleaned. Move in process was great. The staff assisted us when they could and provided the nice wagons for us to move our things on. I can't express enough about the meals. The meals are absolutely wonderful and delicious. The dining room servers are so observant and ask if you need anything else for your meal. The servers are such a caring group. And they are so friendly. I would recommend Juniper Village to everyone. I feel so much better knowing that my brother is at a safe place.

I would recomend, it is best out of the four I have been to. Juniper was the cheapest, and the cleanest. The food is very good and there is plenty of things to do, such as; card games, bingo, and exerise classes for your mind etc

Response from Juniper Village at Guadalupe Riverfront
October 26, 2023Hi Jd, thank you so much for your positive comments about Juniper Village at Guadalupe Riverfront!
This is an independent living facility so the care services do not apply for us. What we really like most about Juniper Village is the friendly of the staff members working there. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would absolutely recommend this community to other families.

Response from Juniper Village at Guadalupe Riverfront
October 3, 2023Thank you for the recommendation!
Junipers ability to communicate effectively (or at all) with residents during crisis is lacking. My loved one frequently doesn't go down to eat because the choices are not very good. They also have very few condiments. For instance: fried chicken strips with nothing to dip in, not even ketchup is available.

Response from Juniper Village at Guadalupe Riverfront
October 3, 2023Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Please reach out to us directly so we can make sure your loved one is being offered choices that they enjoy. Individual choice is very important at Juniper!
DO NOT allow your loved one to live at Juniper Village if they have a memory disease (Alzheimer’s, dementia). While they are a good for assisted living, they are not equipped or staffed to care for those with memory issues. If you search the internet for memory care, Juniper Village populates, meaning that Juniper has entered those key words to describe their service. We moved our precious Mom there in Sept after she was evaluated by their staff and were assured they could care for her safely. Unfortunately, after only six weeks, we had to move her to an actual memory care center. We have never dealt with Alzheimer’s and relied on the expertise of the Juniper staff. After moving our Mom, Juniper would not refund the $[fee removed] “community fee” even though they acknowledged they had not assessed Mom correctly during a home visit prior to her moving in and she was only there for six weeks. When Mom moved to New Haven, the care was excellent and geared for those with memory care issues.

One of the care givers that looks after our loved one is so trust worthy, and all of the residents are very kind and generous to each other. The cafeteria staff are very nice and very personable. They have plenty of activities, a really nice activities center and a nice library.

Juniper Village is one of the best facilities in the area and we looked at several. I do think that they could have promoted their activities a little more. But all of the staff here have been so attentive even though my friend is in the independent living section of the community. I would highly recommend to others, I would move here myself.

The sales team, especially on the independent and assisted living side, were fantastic. They also had teams that were meeting to talk about potentially caring for my dad. They were eager to do the assessments at his current community that was unsafe for him. I 100% felt that they were genuine in their care and concern for him, and that their main goal was to do everything they possibly could to help get my dad to a safe place. Had we not moved him, I don't think he would be alive today. Upon move-in at Juniper Village, we had a bit of a rocky start. We've had to work out some medication and billing issues, but those are sorting themselves out. There were some unanticipated problems with the apartment before move-in, but they they got everything fixed in time, if a bit messily. Maintenance has been prompt and helpful with an issue that came up on a weekend, and they're resolving anything that comes up. My dad really likes the staff. Given his health circumstances and the level of care that he needs, he's very complimentary of them. I 've met them too, and they're very nice. The staff is great overall, the exception being some of the kitchen staff . They're having a hard time keeping that department staffed, and the food is not what it used to be, nor what it was billed as. Currently it's very bland, with some things completely unseasoned. Again, I think the problem is they can't keep staff in the kitchen. Which has been a disappointment, because that was one of the reasons we picked Juniper Village- for the food. We've had conversations with the staff, and they're definitely trying. So I think it will all turn around eventually. I really appreciate that Juniper Village is a safe facility, which was huge for us in our decision. Overall the staff have made everything workable and as smooth as possible.

They paint a pretty picture and talk about all the things they do but it's not exactly what they say it is. If your loved one is mobile then I would recommend if not I would look elsewhere.

Moving here from [removed], I didn't know what to expect. Brookdale basically offers the same services, but they are managed by a "concierge" and I think she is somewhat overwhelmed. She also substitutes for others, for instance she drove the bus for a few days so she was not available to schedule any help for us. And help is expensive! We had two help options at [removed] because Senior Helpers had an office there and they were very active (a San Antonio based business). And there were many independent helpers who were often looking for more clients. At [removed] we had a washer and dryer in each apartment. I could get a helper to come in and do 3 washes (light, dark, bedding) and while she waited to transfer the wash to the dryer she stayed and did other things -- ironed, took out garbage, opened boxes, put things away etc. Here at Brookdale the laundry room (very nice) is on the 3rd floor. A helper comes and picks up laundry, and when it is done she comes back and delivers the clean things. Cost is $13 per load. She may have other jobs to do in the meantime, between washes, I don't know. Of course, some people are able to do their own wash so this cost wouldn't apply. But if someone is on a tight budget they should ask to see the cost sheet which shows how much various types of help cost. Overall, I am happy here. The food is good, I have a 2 bedroom apartment which helps with storage, and the basic rent is $500 less than [removed] so I can manage well. I hope to get involved in more activities. There is no Chaplain on staff but there are services held by representatives of various churches and several Bible studies. And music almost every day. I'm happy and will be happier when I find a bridge group. The designated "bridge room" is a tight squeeze with only one table so that is a big disappointment. But I have been asked to help form a Book Club and that's going to be fun. The staff here wants to take advantage of other people's interests and experience. Hope this all helps!

We are settling in what I like here is the friendliness of the residents and staff. We have 3 good meals a day. We have a 2bdrm apartment and they will come 1x weekly to clean and do our linens, we do our personal laundry. We have a nice courtyard and patio area. The housekeeping keeps everything nice and clean. They will give us a weekly calendar of daily activities. It also has a shuttle to go to the grocery stores or a appointment. I would recommend this community.

Everything is very much up to par at this community. The have a really friendly staff that would go out of their way to assist you and answer any questions that you may have. If for some reason you miss breakfast they would check up on you and make sure that you are ok. The food that they have is good and generously portioned. You have the option of getting the full portion or half portion, I always get the half portion and even then sometimes I can’t finish it. They have a menu that changes daily. The noon meal is a more sit down experience whereas breakfast and dinner is a buffet style. You can walk through, pick what you would like to eat, and you also have the option to bring it back to your room and eat it there. Housekeeping also comes in once a week to clean up the area and take out the trash. My husband and I do our own laundry. The other residents there are also friendly. I have only been there for about three weeks now and I have gone out of my way to meet many people. Normally I am a shy person but the tenants are very welcoming and they all also seem to love living here. The staff team likes to keep everyone up to date on the events or activities that are happening on site. Once a month they give us a calendar of what’s going on and every day they put a little flier on the clip near your door to let you know what’s going on that day. They have different music groups that come in to entertain everyone; they have dominoes, bridge, bingo, and cards games. Overall, I would recommend this community to others. The only drawback that I found is that the parking is not adequate.

I enjoy the community, it is going to take time to settle in but as far as where I stay I like the community. I did play bingo one day and there is a lot of things to do here.

My aunt resides in an independent living apartment. She is happy with the community except for the food. The food is sub par at best. The evening meal is served in a Styrofoam take out box! The residents deserve much better than what they are being provided.
