My 97 year old mother has been at Island View for 3 months. All the staff were very helpful in the early stages of transition to meet her particular needs. They continue to do so. The setting is small and as home like as any long term care I’ve seen. The price is good comparatively. My only negative is that the location is not conducive for walking or for sitting in a garden. Also, her room is without air conditioning and probably very hot in summer time.... Read more

The good reviews for this facility predate the new owners who took possession in late 2019. There was a steady deterioration of service and communication since then. Two residents were evicted last year after family members raised concerns with the health authority and an investigation took place. Do your homework on this one.

My dad was here at IVP for several years, and the one constant in all that time was a lack of service. The staff was in constant flux, and the ownership change caused chaos in the physical plant and the programming. There was NO recreation, NO organized programming, and NO communication between staff and families. If you are thinking of housing your loved one here, think again - premium prices for lousy service. Whatever promise they give you will be broken.

This is not an appropriate place for anyone let alone helpless and advanced care needs patients. I was a friend - companion of a resident there for 1 1/2 yrs... The ill practices there from: Lack of staff and care aides, leaving floors of 10+ patients alone and locked in to under certified staff and care aides left to handle such things as high doses of medications including dangerous drugs like opiates etc. Elevator out of order for months. Meals repetitive and every single patient eats the same - 20 patients!? Filth in all rooms, dirty dishes served, laundry mixed up, shrank and bleached. Lack of floor staff and almost zero interaction with patients except washroom and meals. Patients pay $7000/month, the top end and suppose to be the best private care. (The website is totally false advertising) Entertainment is repetitive, boring and utterly brain numbing with zero enthusiasm. Void of one on one care what so ever. Physical complaints are met with no compassion, mostly completely ignored. This place should be shut down and sadly it was just bought, taken over, since the previous women who owned embesseled all the money, never putting a cent in, went into foreclosure and ran it into the ground!, so new owners- which had everyone somewhat excited- until we realized the Wolves in Sheeps clothing are further capitalizing on our senior community- cramming in 2 more suites to charge another $7000.00 each, a whopping $154.000.00/month and the renters, senior patients are left to eat, and lounge in the cold dreary basement now, all soon to be 22 of them! Pretty gross! Really sad and without further conversation, I think you get the picture, this is NOT a place for mom or dad! Thx for listening.

My father spent the last two and a half years of his life at Island View. Although we live overseas, it was such a comfort to know he was being cared for by such compassionate, gentle and attentive nurses. We are so grateful for all the nurses and staff and couldn't recommend this home more highly for those struggling with dementia.

Nice location, looked like it could use some upgrades for the money residents pay to live there. Liked the organized meal plans and the sitting area looked nice. Was also concerned with the number of staff on site. Everything seemed to cost extra. One bath a week. Unless you pay more but more staff wasn't brought in to do so. Also I asked for references and they refused to give me one. That helped me make my final decision. I want to know where I'm sending my loved one and to have a reference shouldn't be a problem.

I would highly recommend Island View Place. My father was a wanderer with dementia we could not find anywhere in Victoria that could keep him. Then God provided this place and [Removed]was so welcoming and ready for the challenge. Now my dad has been living here for over 16 months and has been so well cared for by all the staff. The homemade meals , the housekeeping , the activity provider and all the nursing and care aid staff go above and beyond to provide excellent loving care. When I voice any concerns the staff works on helping me right away. They communicate well. So thankful we have this place for my dad to live and be respected for who he is.

Hi [Removed], my husband and I were very impressed. I am going back on Monday to have lunch with my mom and her best friend. My only concern is how much interaction she will have with other residents and if she will have companionship. [Removed] is a angle and mom would be able to have a cat perhaps. I will advise once my mom has a chance to see it. [Removed]thank you for your help. [Removed]

The staff is very kind, helpful, and they try to foresee a person's needs. I like the calmness and friendly staff. As there are only 19 people getting care, they know the people that are in care much better than a huge place.

This small care community seems most definitely in tune with the needs of Alzheimer's patients. Bridgette, the very sweet warm German lady in charge gave me the feeling that her "gusts" are warmly cared for. The small number of guests at meal time was a definite plus. The bath facility gave me some concern however.
