My wife suffered from early onset Alzheimer’s disease and lived at the Iroquois nursing home for 8 months in 2022. The facility provided an excellent experience for both my wife and me. I visited numerous other nursing homes with serious staff issues ranging from malcontent to inattentiveness. Many smelled of feces and urine in the hallways and the residents were left in the corridors by themselves in their pjs all day to marinate in their own excrement. The Iroquois staff, on the other hand, excel at their jobs and the facility is top-notch!! Here are a small number of my observations: (1) The facility was always nice and clean. (2) The patients were well cared for with more intensive attention to those who needed it (eg - the aids often spoon-fed the sickest) (3) The staff was cheerful & really payed attention to patients, even braiding women’s hair and putting on earrings. (3) Those in diapers were checked regularly. (4) The dinning/community area is great for the patients

My mother was sent here after a stint in the hospital. When she left Upstate she was clean, dressed and able to walk to the bathroom with just a little assistance. She was supposed to be getting physical therapy to build up her strength. That did not happen! We brought her out after 10 days. She had on sweatpants and a t-shirt. She was supposed to get 2 Avenno baths daily, but had maybe 2 showers the entire time. Due to Coronavirus we were not able to visit her, so we relied on what we were being told by phone. " She is wheeling down the hall". "She is having coffee and breakfast". The discharge papers said she could wheel her chair 150 feet with 2 turns. Not So! First, none of them were wearing masks when they came out,we were! It took their PT guy and a nurse to get her in the car. She didn't have some of her clothes and her new book was gone. It took 3 of us to get her out of the car when we got home. In less than 24 hours she was taken by ambulance to the hospital . She was dehydrated, malnourished and had a severe UTI. We are still trying to understand which meds she had been given or not and even the doctors don't understand the discharge papers. Please do not send your loved ones here!!

Our family had an awful experience at another facility, so we were extremely grateful to Iroquois for transferring our grandmother to their facility. The minute you walk into this facility, you know it is a first class facility. Every staff member you deal with goes above and beyond their duties to help their residents get healthy and comfortable. They have an excellent activities department and what their music therapist was able to do with my grandmother was beyond amazing! I can't recommend this facility enough!!

We chose Iroquois because it seemed to be top notch compared to the others.....It was the best decision we could have ever made. Dad stayed at Iroquois after his heart condition and mom was there after her surgery. The entire staff, including the nurse's assistants cared for my parents as if they were one of their family members. The dietary staff, social workers and therapy departments are equally as fantastic. Dad had an exceptionally complex medication schedule, and the staff did a great job managing him medically. Although mom & dad didn't participate in all of the activities they offer, their resident activities schedule is second to none. Walking into the main entrance feels like walking into a new hotel and not a nursing home. The lobby, reception and gift shop area is bright and beautiful. We always say that Iroquois doesn't feel like a nursing home, it feels like a community! Our local community is truly blessed to have such a voluntary facility with such caring staff.

This community has done a wonderful job with helping my aunt out. They are taking very good care of her. The community is clean and neat and the food is okay. My aunt does not get out of the bed so activities are not something that she does.

There are times we have gone to visit, and it seems like he is in bed a lot. We want him up and about, and getting stronger. Communication can be tough, they aren't always good about keeping us up to date. The food isn't that good. It's one of the better facilities, but I wouldn't give them an A. I just don't think they are doing to get him where he should be at this point. Staffing is an issue, the weekends are terrible trying to get someone to help.

A Place for Mom has scored Iroquois Nursing Home 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
