We had mama there from June till March when she passed. She was on hospice for a few months. The facility is small and has a limited amount of residents. There are private and semi private rooms. They did a good job with keeping the residents clean in regards to diaper changes. The staff was sweet with my mother. They do eat early dinners and start bedtime early which works well there. They staff down at night which means if you show up later you may need to wait to get help in and out of the locked doors (no big deal). The hospice used there was absolutely wonderful throughout the dying process. They were super at giving me updates and letting me know what is going on while I was at work. Called me when they saw changes and sat with me and her until she passed. She was well taken care of and staff is caring and I would suggest this place go others. All places have their problems but any time I saw something that needed attention they addressed it and listened to my concerns.... Read more

Evening staff is not always adequate. But they try. Memory patients are unpredictable and hard to control. We are comfortable enough that we are try not to criticize. There are many care givers who are obviously very dedicated and treat dad with great kindness and empathy. Some are more business like. I have never seen anyone treat dad badly. We have a camera in his room so we can see most everything.

From the moment I walked through the doors. I could feel the warmth. It was nice and clean. There was a balloon volleyball game going on with the residents. Along with a baking class, they were making strawberry cupcakes. But what impressed me the most was how caring the staff was with the residents.

I SELECTED THE PRIVATE IRIS NURSING FACILITY BECAUSE IT SPECIALIZES IN TAKING CARE OF THE NEEDS FOR PATIENTS WITH DEMENTIA AND ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE. THE FACT THAT MY WIFE OF 53 YEARS ALSO HAS A GLUTEN ALLERGY COMPLICATES MATTERS, WHICH IS TAKEN A LITTLE WHILE TO TAKE CARE OF. IN ADDITION, A REACTION TO HER J & J COVID SHOT IN 2021 CALLED "GB SYNDROME" CAUSES ADDITIONAL UNBALANCE AND INSTABILITY OF MOVEMENTS. THE GOOD NEWS IS, WE ARE HANDLING IT. WE ARE WORKING TOGETHER AS A TEAM TO PROVIDE MUCH-NEEDED HELP TO THE ONLY PERSON I HAVE EVER LOVED.

My mother has been at Iris Memory Care for 4 1/2 years. I visited 6 other Memory Care facilities, over 5 months before placing her with Iris. The caregivers and supervisors do give and show the residence at Iris the respect and understanding of their individual needs. Our loved ones deserve this type of care.

Iris Memory Care is an answered prayer. My husband struggled in two previous facilities. From the beginning, the directors were responsive, informative and went the extra mile to assist us, even before he was an official resident. And they continue to do so now that he is a resident. I can't say enough about the caregivers! The Iris team all truly care! They talk with you and learn about your loved one; they understand the disease and don't take a behavior personally; many have had a loved one with dementia and they all serve from the heart. They are very patient! Every visit, I come to know and appreciate each one of them more and more. This facility offers a lot of activities, even on Saturday! They decorate for holidays, other special days and recognize birthdays. They distribute an event-filled calendar and publish a newsletter. The patio area is very nice, with a garden and lush greenery. I would run out of room if I started naming everyone, so a big THANK YOU to ALL!

The facility is laid out extremely well. The ratio of residents to staff is excellent. The staff are all very familiar with each of the residents - their activities and interests, their likes and dislikes. It seems like a very friendly, family environment. They have a gorgeous kitchen and a good chef, and the residents seem to really like the food. They also have have loads of activities.

They have been excellent. They were proactive in getting our loved one there after a poor fit at an assisted living facility. They got everything expedited for us. I think the staff are good, but they have a high turnover, which is probably common in that particular type of care. But they’re very friendly, caring, and eager to connect you to your loved one. We live out of state, and they’re very good about calling and telling us anything we need to know about our loved one's care.
We learned a lot about memory care during our visit. Their environment is very attentive and they engage the residents frequently. It is a safe home feeling. We arrived just after lunch and it smelled delicious. The location was set in a neighborhood and more quiet.

I am so grateful for Iris in Rowlett. My mother needed a safe place to be while I worked M-F. Iris was a perfect fit!! She thrived mentally and emotionally while there. She had activities to keep her engaged and had other’s around to chat with. The employees always greeted her with a smile and did all they could to make her feel welcome!! It is so nice to know there are places like this!!!

October 16, 2019That makes us very happy!
We ended up placing my dad in Iris after trying a Memory Care center a little closer to home. Iris was a much better fit for our whole family! My dad is a difficult case and they were patient with him and worked with my family to find the best way to care for him. The whole staff always made my mom feel welcome and part of the family. We wish we would have made the switch sooner, but we are glad we found it now!

September 25, 2019We are so glad to hear that we have been a good fit for your family! Thank you for your review.
When I had to move both parents to memory care at the same time, the staff at Iris made a difficult transition go more smoothly than I would have expected. All of the staff are very caring and engaged with the residents. They have also been responsive to my concerns and requests. This is a nice place and the food is good too.

My husband spent a week at Iris while I was at MD Anderson. I was very pleased with the facilities and how caring/attentive the staff. Our son went out every night to see his father and he was very pleased also.

Mom is very happy here. The staff always make her feel cared about and listened to. They don’t mind that I like having input into Mom’s healthcare. I also love that this location has fewer residents and a sense of family.

September 10, 2019Thank you so much for your review!
I moved my mother here from another memory care facility. [Name removed] puts the "care" back into Memory care. The Executive Director is an incredible leader, motivating and praising her staff. She sets the tone of caring and accountability. Leadership really matters in care facilities. The care staff is tremendous. Example: At a crowded holiday party, I walked my mom across the room for an activity without her walker because it was so bulky. I didn't want her to hit people with it while walking. When the activity was over, I helped mom up, and a staff member spotted us from 50 feet away and wheeled the walker over without being asked. That would never have happened at mom's former facility. The critical things in memory care are patience, kindness, friendliness, activities, appetizing food, no hurrying, and feeling like you are cared for, not like you are an inconvenient patient. Everything about [name removed], from the cleanliness to the smaller facility without confusing hallways to the open-concept where you can smell lunch cooking is built for the resident. But mostly it's the people. The activity director, the community engagement manager, everyone...they are all wonderful, and if they are not, they tend to self-select out. I would put myself in a place like this. [Name removed] gave my mom a much better life than she was having before. Unfortunately, my mom passed. But the evening she did and the day after, staff members were coming up to hug me, some with tears in their eyes. They really cared about mom and me.
