Real Hope

My first reaction to House of Hope was it was friendly. The owners really interested in the clients' lives, and they enjoy sharing stories of their own backgrounds. The care has been excellent. They understood all the directions of visiting nurses and therapists and worked hard to do as directed. Everything is extremely clean. My mother lived at House of Hope for 2-1/2 months. She could not wait to move out! She would have her meals in the kitchen and then they would take her to her room where she sat alone hours on end waiting for something to happen. Her room was small, dark and cramped--very oppressive. I hated visiting there and she hated being there. In her own words she told me "I came to hate [removed], she's mean." ([removed] is one of the owners along with her husband [removed]). Mom has mild dementia, but is capable of doing many things for herself. She has an active mind and needs to be kept busy--which did not happen at House of Hope. Within a month of her living there we began looking for a different place. When mom became ill, the owners, [removed] and [removed] did not call any family members, but instead decided to play doctor and gave her cough syrup when in fact her condition was much more serious. The owners continually spoke Russian in front of her, which fostered some insecurities and made mom uncomfortable. I helped mom select Christmas gifts for each of the owners' family members, for which mom was never thanked. Yes, I agree with other reviewers that the place is clean--but it should be and that goes without saying. The owners are friendly--at first. But give it a week or two and you will see what they are really like; bossy, aggressive, somewhat intolerant and impatient not to mention rude. When it came time to move my mom out, I had a fight on my hands to get a refund of half a month's rent; almost $3,000. I had to point out the refund policies to them in their own contract! They claimed that they never signed a contract, although they clearly did as I had copies of all the paperwork. They regarded my mother as nothing more than a paycheck, and in my opinion, trying to keep her refund was tantamount to stealing from her. I'm sure this was not the first time they did this to someone. They eventually paid the refund; after I threatened them with bringing the State into the picture. If you decide to place a loved one in House of Hope--read the contract carefully before you sign. And don't take any crap from [removed] or [removed]. There's many more adult group homes out there....so keep looking!

Absolutely Tops

You really do not find a better place then House of Hope. The owner of this home has a sister who also has a home that she runs which I am sure is probably the only one that would give his competition. House of Hope is just excellent they are absolutely tops. We chose it because they had availability and felt for our situation a male primary care giver would be the best fit.
