Home Place of New Bern

It is a wonderful place, clean and orderly!! They keep the people involved with activities!! It is just a great place!!! It gives peace of mind to know Mama is being taken care of 24/7. All the workers are so nice and helpful to the residents. My Mom is on the Memory Care unit and the residents there need extra care at times and that is what they get , personal one on one care.

We came in 2017 from NY & FL. Apartments are mostly efficient. Overall cleanliness is probable average. There is not enough staff to keep everything pristine. Housekeeping is variable dependent on your housekeeper. The staff is friendly. Maintainence is difficult with 2 people for two buildings with about 90 apartments. Dining is extremely variable. When the food, preperation, service, etc gets poor, an improvement comes, and our hopes rise. But only temporarily. The dining servers are friendly, but rushed. Dining is almost like eating in a gymnasium for a fundraising organization. Often the reply to a problem is "We'll look into it". Activities are planned by the week/month. The activity staff person if very upbeat. This type personnel is hard to find. The general feeling of the residents is that we can't get good people for the money we pay. Nothing these days is cheap, but we pay a lot for what we get.

The transition from [removed] to Homeplace for my mother has been very smooth. There is a lot of things we've all learned during the past 8 months but I think my mother is safe, secure and happy at Homeplace.

My mother has been at Home Place of New Bern for several years. We have been so very happy with her here. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, has been so kind and caring toward her. It doesn’t matter what their job title is, they treat her like FAMILY! She lights up when she sees them and they help her when it’s not such a great day for her. They are always there to support her and give her the best care possible. I also feel like they are FAMIlY to me. They will reach out to me whenever there is a change or concern. They also have lots of activities for the residents. Different groups and organizations will also come to perform or play bingo and do crafts. Home Place of New Bern is just that - Home with the FAMILY

This facility strives to be the best. They are open to and welcome new ideas. They listen and care about their customers and encourage and support family involvement. Everyone is treated as family. They address any concerns that may arise in a professional attentive manner.

Staff is very attentive and responsive to watching over residents and making sure their needs are met. Many outside of the facility activities are available to the residents. Whether it's a specific activity at a certain destination, or just going for a drive in the afternoon to break up the monotony at the facility so the residents, who might be new to the area, can see the countryside.

The staff members are always available for us to ask questions. The staff are always going over and beyond to make the residents comfortable. The facility is always clean. I try to make an appearance at different times of the day. The staff are always assisting residents that need assistance. The meals are excellent and prepared 3 times a day. I have no complaints. The staff also greets you when you come into the facility. Great hospitality. We definitely love and would highly recommend Home Place of New Bern.

One of the main factors why I chose Home Place was because of the cleanliness and freshness of the facility. I also like the layout and activities offered. Room sizes were good and given that the facility has been open for several years the rooms still looked in good condition compared to other facilities here in New Bern that I looked at.

Home Place is exactly as its name implies - a place just like home! We toured every facility in a three-county radius in search for the perfect fit for my grandfather, and we definitely found it here. The staff and residents truly are a big family, and no matter what time of day or night you drop by, you'll always find inclusive, engaging activities and a tireless staff working to create a calm and inviting living space. Home Place's Bridge to Rediscovery program for Alzheimer's and dementia patients is among the most comprehensive and impressive I've seen, with Montessori-styled activities including music therapy, pet therapy, cooking classes, field trips, and constant opportunities for skill building and reminiscing. Our family is so thankful to Home Place and its staff. We are thrilled my grandfather has found a home away from home that allows him to be safe and continue to grow, despite his memory limitations.

I toured this facility when looking for a place for Mother. The sales representative was knowledgeable and caring in her review of our needs. The facility is lovely and well maintained. The outside activity program includes many events in New Bern and encourages all residents to partake.

Working with the staff at the Homeplace of New Bern to transition my mother has been a good experience. Catherine Lawrence was kind and compassionate and took the time to answer all of our questions no matter how small. From our coordination of our first visit to the eventual move of my mother, everything has been top notch. The facility is clean and the staff is always courteous. The other residents are nice and I could not ask for more when it comes to the activities that they have regularly. I am grateful that we were able to find a location nearby that could help.
