Holland Gardens

The move process into the facility was easy and went smoothly. Very caring and understanding staff! All have treated my parents very well. Communication- very important! My parents are currently changing to assisted care floor. Due to my dad's health. They spoke with my parents. But wish that we'd had a little more notice on 1- the discussion was going to take place. And 2- the suddenness of the move to the other floor. My sister and I both work and we were given 3 weeks to organize and move them. Very very challenging for us. So we both felt this wasn't handled as best as it could have been. With any falls or medical they have been wonderful at notifying me and getting help to my parents quickly. This is a beautiful residence. And they offer lots of activities and special events. Having knowledge of other places - this is by far a top rated facility. I would and have recommended this facility.

This has been a roller coaster of emotions for my parents and I agonized over the decision to have my parents move - I knew it was time but I knew they didn't want to do this. From my first contact I felt supported by the staff and they guided me through the process. Again I feel so grateful for the staff and their caring commitment to the residents. I did some virtual tours of residences before holland garden And felt bang for the buck - my parents would have a larger space for the money. Activities - they've only been there a short time, but having my mother in law in a different facility out in Whitby, I feel that there is more to get the residents involved. Food - My mom loves to cook- so this is a tough one In my parents eyes nothing will compare , and I understand this. I've gone specifically to sit with my parents for several meals. I wanted to see for myself the portions and presentation. I did have 1 meal there when we were just deciding on Holland Garden. I felt flavor , presentation and portions were spot on. My parent's complaints other than it's not my moms cooking has been that there are not enough veggies. I'm vegetarian and my parents eat more veggies than meat. Also veggies seem to be corn peas and carrots, not much else. I've popped in at all times and constantly see people cleaning. Everything looks - feels and smells clean. Friendliness- if I could give a 10 - I would. All staff very friendly And so helpful, I'm so very impressed!!! My parents can't say enough about how caring and kind everyone they've had contact with is. I feel so grateful for each and everyone of the staff. I noticed my parents went through a grieving process- didn't expect that and they're still adjusting- but each week is getting better. I hope this helps other families that are going through making these tough decisions. There are many facilities around Holland Garden ticked all the boxes of what my parents felt they needed to make the move. They're scared of losing their independence and this is a big step! But the things they found difficult at the house - all points are addressed so that they feel independent, but have that safety net of staff to help at every turn.
