Highview Residences of Kitchener

Our family loved the building, but we have had a horrible experience. The staff is not trained adequately to handle a person like my Mom who has Dementia and is mobile. My Mom has had several falls in the last 2 months and is now in Palliative care in the hospital. She is black and blue with bruises, her head is cut. She has a black eye and a brain bleed. Some days my Mom got good care, but most days the staff on shift could not handle my Mom. She was dirty, her room and bed was dirty. The home did not have the skill set required to detect my Mom's health issues .They were very slow to call and communicate problems. My Mom fell on Wednesday night [date removed] and they did not call us. They never called for an ambulance quickly enough. My Mom arrived at the hospital at [date removed]. They never called the POA until 3:40am, she fell at 11:30 pm. I would not trust this home to care for another family member. My Mother did not receive the Exceptional Dementia Care that they claim to provide. Very disappointed with Highview Kitchener.

My father suffered a dramatic and fast decline from being completely independent to entirely dependent on others for every aspect of his day to day living. The folks at Highview have been wonderfully attentive, caring and patient. The home is clean, modern and welcoming. It has been painful to have my father move into a care facility during a pandemic but I feel we couldn't have made a better decision entrusting his care to Highview

Thank you to Highview for taking on my mom's care. It was a daunting task to find a place and I was blessed to have met the team. Mom is very heavy nursing care and mild-moderate dementia. The residence is immaculate. The staff treat all the patients with the utmost respect and dignity. I saw this almost daily - not only with mom but with other residences. I was privy to meals and these were well prepared and delicious. The staff do go out of their way to give care. My mom hated being diapered most of all. One evening while I was visiting, she soiled and the team went in to get her cleaned up. The three care givers did what they needed to do. And at the end of all of it, they each stopped and sat with mom for 5 minutes, laughing and joking and kibitzing around - to re-establish mom's dignity. Such a simple human thing and of great importance. Unfortunately, we were not able to stay at HIghview for the long term, but the time we spent - very much impressed me. I am a health care provider with 30 years of experience. I am not easy to impress. Thank you Highview.
