My mother lived there from soon after they opened till 2022. When she first moved in everything was ok but then covid hit and the place went downhill and never recovered. Even after the lockdowns stopped Hellenics staff was constantly changing from top management on down. They were constantly short staffed so my mothers room and laundry weren’t kept clean. I sometimes doubted that there was a registered nurse there 24/7. It was hard to tell who was what there. Meds were first given in the residents rooms but were later given out from a cart in the hallway, so residents had to remember to be at the cart at a certain time. If not, the meds were placed in the room. When we moved my mom out we found pills under furniture etc. It was almost impossible to get a hold of anyone there and if you left a message we seldom got a call back. I wouldn’t trust them with my mother again but if you don’t have $[removed] a month to spend for care you have very few options.

I wanted a safe place for my mom to live. My brother and I discovered items gone from my mother's room after she was in the hospital or rehab facility on several occasions. Her wedding band, a winter coat (North Face parka), a Keurig, a windbreaker jacket from Notre Dame, her social security card and other identification, two towels, a sewing machine, and an 18-package of Frito-Lay were all missing from her room. It's ridiculous that the nurse director, [name removed], states that there are no cameras in the facility. [name removed] asked me, “why should we have cameras?” My response was to stop theft and to ensure the residents' safety and welfare. The law does not compel it, [name removed] responded; The law should require all assisted living facilities to have cameras. To avoid problems, the institution needs to assign someone to watch the cameras each day to check the staff that works overnight. The elderly needs to live in a peaceful facility with honest workers.

I don't know who runs this place, but it seems to be a disaster. My friend has been trying to get her mother in for months. I'm appalled. at the treatment she has received.
My father has been living there for five months in Elkhart at Hellenic , him and other residents have been complaining about the food service and as of today there were no cooks …the office staff had to cook for the residence ….how and why is this business still up and running when there are no cooks feeding these residents!! Why are these residents still paying the high cost a month and not getting fed the proper way!!!!I want some answers and I don’t understand how you can have a nursing home/ assisted living with no cooks!!!!

A Place for Mom has scored Hellenic Senior Living of Elkhart 1.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
