Can't imagine any place better to live

5 for all of it, it is a wonderful place. They are focused on excellence in all things. They have so many available activities. Honestly it is like living on a cruise ship! This year we had surgery and needed puréed food- the head of food service discussed it with us. Every time food was ordered they knew to do it without discussion and they delivered food to her door until she was strong enough to go to dining. We had a smoke alarm going off for a battery on thanksgiving evening and they took care of it immediately We have had no complaints with anything at all and it had been over a year!! I would recommend Fountainwood at Lake Houston if you can afford it. Their memory care unit was fabulous. My mom wouldn't have been happy anywhere, so I can't go by anything that she said. There were issues that she had as far as needing extra care and it was provided without any problems. Their staff was with me until the end.

Would recommend this facility. Many activities for residents. Very friendly people. Very clean, food is very good. Listen to resident comments. Have ambassadors to help with the transition. Even paid for moving costs.

Our Experience

They just changed management. The staff is great to deal with. They text me if there is an issue or have a question about care. Dad loves them all. This is his 3rd room now. They offer different levels of care. He is now in memory care. Moving in, we took care of, and they were quick to fix any problems that were found. My dad says that the meals are pretty good, they just hired a new head chef.

Fountainwood respite stay for mom

My mom was a resident at Fountainwood at Lake Houston for a respite stay and everything was great for her overall at this facility, however there were lots of bumps getting her enrolled, filling out necessary paperwork and medications ordered. The administration had a lack of communication with the nursing staff. I had someone calling when she would arrive so they could give my mom a red carpet welcome. This was at about 2:30 and she had been there since noon, as previously discussed. It made me nervous at first in leaving her there, but soon they made me comfortable. I had someone checking in on her to see her. The food is fabulous as well as the nursing staff. It's a beautiful atmosphere.

Happy environment

My father is currently a resident at Fountainwood at Lake Houston. The facility and staff are very friendly. The maintenance is very prompt and helpful when needing things. The meals are flavorful. I'm trying to get my loved one to do more of the activities that they provide. I would recommend this facility to others. It's higher priced than the other one's, but it has an uplifting feel.

Don't walk away...RUN!!!

It was a clean community. They did not offer enough food. They did not offer any activities. It was a higher price, but I liked the cruise ship like atmosphere. They don't have trained staff for Dementia care, and they were often short-staffed. If they can't control a resident, they call an ambulance, to have the resident sent to the hospital for an evaluation. I did not like this process.

Stressful

We have experienced a lot of chaos, disorganization and confusion, which has created unnecessary stress at times. There is constant staff turnover. The residents and some of the staff have been great. The management will say they clean carpets and refresh paint when you move in, but they actually won't do it.

Thanks to a Place for Mom! You advised me on what makes a good location. Fountainwood is one of them.

I have a 10+ year history with A Place for Mom, first starting with counselor [name removed] who helped me find a place to care for my grandmother in Washington DC, to finding a place for my mother in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Your guidance has not failed me. I recommend Fountainwood at Lake Houston. Fast forward to just a few weeks ago. Since moving my mother here, we have been extremely impressed with the whole team, including the outside therapy and medical groups. In addition, the level of care and warm reception shown to my mother has met a very high standard. My mother was an Ambassador at the other two assisted living homes in Pittsburgh and has a keen sense of what is working well and what is not. The most recent facility is highly recognized and respected, by you too. I believe that our mother has not yet experienced all that Fountainwood at Lake Houston has to offer, but our family looks forward, with anticipation, to the future. The best is still in front of us.

This facility is beautiful. Overall, I like it here and I'm comfortable here. I chose this place for 2 main reasons: the quality of the food and the location being close to my family. When I toured, I was able to have a meal to get an idea of the food quality. The meal I had on my tour was so good. It was fresh and cooked perfectly, the quality was wonderful. However, I've never been served food like that now that I'm a resident. I've spoken to several residents who have told me the very same thing happened to them. Great food on their tour and then terrible once they moved in. It's just not good. It's processed food and often over cooked, served cold, and not good quality at all. Other residents and I have spoken to management about it. They're trying to hire a chef and turn things around. There is a lot of turnover here, especially in dining and housekeeping. The staff that they do have seem to not have quality training. Housekeeping is sporadic and usually not great. Definitely never a deep clean. The activities are good and there are many to choose from. After I moved in, it rained pretty bad and I had some water damage from the ceiling and from around the door. It did cause some damage to some of my belongings. Maintenance came pretty quickly to repair the leaking areas. It hasn't rained like that since, but I'm hoping the repairs hold up. I do believe that they are really trying to turn things around and improve things here, but I'm not sure I'd recommend them at this point. Probably not until they make some changes, which again I think they are truly trying hard to do that.

Satisfying

I really like Fountainwood at Lake Houston, and my mother seems to have really blossomed here. I like the staff, and I feel like they're willing to work through any issues with us. I like the facility. They were able to take her on short notice form a very bad nursing home situation. And I'm very grateful they informed me she could be on hospice due to her dementia and some paralysis. Hospice has been absolutely wonderful. I find Fountainwood to be a very inviting place. I feel much more comfortable asking my children to come see her here vs. the other facility she was at. It's expensive, but it's worth it to know that she's in a good place and I don't have to worry.

Wonderful facility for senior living

We are very pleased with our experience with Fountainwood at Lake Houston. It is a brand new facility and they are having some staffing issues, but that is not uncommon. They have a great activities director who implements a lot of great ideas. We did not even look at any other facilities because my son recommended this one. When I checked it out I was pleased with what I saw and have been ever since. I would definitely recommend it to others looking.
