Fairbury 23 Apartments is a former high school that has been renovated into apartments for low-income seniors, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Trophy cases along the hallways display memorabilia of former students, some of who are now residents. Much of the original woodwork remains. Some units have teachers' closets, which add to the charm. Apartments are spacious with high windows that allow for plenty of sunlight. Wide hallways are ideal for residents who like to place decorations outside their apartments, which adds to the home-like atmosphere.
Each apartment includes 2 bedrooms and a bathroom, some of which have walk-in showers with corner seats. Grab bars are installed upon request. Kitchens include stainless steel sinks, garbage disposals, microwave ovens, and dishwashers. Refrigerators have icemakers and ovens have front control panels. Lower cabinets have slide-out shelves. Utility rooms include washer-dryer hook-ups. A public laundry room is also available. The thermostat in each apartment controls the heating/AC.
Rent includes water, sewer, trash, free cable, and free off-street covered parking. Maintenance makes repairs as necessary. There is a handicap- accessible door, and the elevator is serviced quarterly and inspected annually.
