I was initially excited about having my dad stay with this facility. The salesman ensured me that the staff were well-trained to handle difficult patients with dementia, as I made clear my concerns about their ability to handle his behaviors. I was assured that this was a common concern and that within the first month, he’d likely be fine. The salesman even developed a plan with me to get him into the facility initially. However, from the time we tried to admit him, there was a lack of communication and follow through. The salesman did NOT make the staff aware of the initial plan, so we had to abort that. I do believe the nursing/caregiving staff did their best with my dad’s difficult personality, attitude, etc. However, the situation could have been handled much better. Unfortunately, we had to hear from hospital staff when he was admitted for pneumonia that the facility may not accept him back, which was the first time we were made aware of such issues. We moved him then.

What our family likes the most about this community is the friendliness of everyone there and overall it is clean. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend the Commonwealth Senior Living community to other families who may need a place for their loved ones.

My loved one is a resident at Commonwealth Senior Living at Salisbury. Some of the staff are warm and friendly, others are not. It is hard to connect with them. It doesn't seem like they have enough or the right mix of staff. A few are exceptional and others are mediocre, cold, irritated. Don't want to be bothered and defensive. My loved one states concerns with the food, specifically the temperature and also getting items off of the anytime menu. As for the Value for Cost, it is a lot of money. Hard to gauge if all the value is being derived that could be. My parents quality of life has improved dramatically and dad is safe and has a lot more choices then if he were in a nursing home.

After touring several facilities in the area and speaking with quite a few others it was determined my grandmother would be moved to Commonwealth with the option to stay or go. Turns out she is staying. I haven't seen her this happy or healthy in years. Previously she went to Manokin Manor in Princess Anne where she had to watch out for her things being taken, random residents entering her room, no privacy, and a constant rotation of employees. But we finally got it right with Commonwealth.

Response from Commonwealth Senior Living at Salisbury
February 12, 2024Dear Tulla, we understand choosing the right support for a loved one is a decision no family takes lightly, and we’re honored you entrusted us with the care of your mom. Please don’t hesitate should you have any questions or recommendations. We look forward to seeing you soon!
This place was NOT as they promised. The place messed up my dads medicine. Luckily he and I were able to tell them. If my dad had not been aware enough they would have missed his medications. The food was promised to be great. It was horrible. They said he could choose what he wanted for each meal. Not true! Everyone got the same thing. And it took forever and was cold. [name removed], one of the nurses, was horrible. The residents were no encouraged to get out and about. Overall an awful experience. The activities they promised were non existent. We pulled dad out. Awful awful awful.

The dining room is great but meals to rooms are always cold, bread hard , vegetables overcooked. Based on the experience we have had so far with this community, we would recommend Commonwealth Senior Living at Salisbury to other families.

At this time, we would rate every category a 5. My mother has been very pleased at Commonwealth in Salisbury. The facility is very clean, the food is good quality, the atmosphere is bright and inviting in the entrance and the common areas. She has a 2 bedroom unit and it is perfect for what she needs. I do not think they offer many of those. They are opening up a new section soon and I believe the units there will be larger than the basic units they offer now. I would recommend Commonwealth in Salisbury to others.

The facility was nice, but there was a major lack of care, they had a shortage of staff and did not have enough people to care for the residents there. It was very expensive and we had to provide a nurse to sit with our loved one as well.

January 11, 2023Thank you for sharing your feedback. I’m sorry to hear our caregiving has not been fulfilling our expectations. They're doing a great job. My mother had a tough transition that had more to do with her than with them. I though their help in trying to mitigate everything was outstanding. She did manage to sneak out the door once. They got on it quickly, and their communication to us was great - they were very transparent. But it did happen. Fortunately there are no major roads right - the location is more remote near residential neighborhoods. And they've used it as a training opportunity for their staff. In general our personal experience and situation has been tough, but they exceeded our expectations when it came to assessing my mother and providing a safe and caring environment for her. I really like that the facility is all on one level, which makes it easier to navigate. Another big positive is they bring in music once a week, and I think music therapy is important for people with dementia.

November 30, 2022Dear Carolyn, Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback and for entrusting our team with the care of your mother. Improving the lives of seniors is central to everything we do, and it warms my heart to know our team is now providing the support you’ve both needed. Sincerely, Rose O’Neill Executive Director
When I walk in the door all of the staff know me by name - they are all very sweet and friendly and open to talk. The facility is very pretty and always very clean and rooms are super nice. They are always doing something. They do trips twice a week, entertainment comes in, painting, games, etc. They have a family night once a month where you are able to come in and eat with your loved ones and it is a 2 hour event, they are a family-oriented facility. They have an area on each floor where residents are able to mingle and talk with other residents. There is also a patio outside where they can go sit. My cousin really loves participating in all of the activities that they have provided. The value is definitely there especially because of all of the activities, the meals, and the way they treat the residents. Overall it has been a positive experience.

I think that most of the staff is great. I love the nurse and executive director, they are very nice, caring and open if you go to them with issues and they really listen and take things into consideration. It is just very difficult to find good help right now just like every where else, it seems like there is a lot of turnover. A couple of the kitchen staff really needs some changes, they are not the most friendly and argumentative but a few others are great. I feel I am doing more work than I was expecting too. I think there are changes being made so we are hoping for some improvements soon.

The tour was great, they were undergoing some construction while we were there. The facility and staff were all very friendly and helpful, but the location was too far away.
The staff are very friendly, and it's a very supportive community. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and economical. The community is easily accessible to Salisbury and the surrounding areas.

There wasn’t anything we didn’t really like at Commonwealth. But they didn’t really get back to me after our tour, so I didn't spend a lot of time looking into them. The sales rep at a different community was amazing and made things really easy, so that other community is where we ended up.
A place for mom really helped me find just the right place for my mom. This place is one of Salisburys hidden gems. Whenever I travel to see mom and to take her out for a little while it's convenient to shopping centers and restaurants without having to drive through town. Every thing is within two miles. I know not many care about that kind of stuff but after driving two hours the last thing I want is to sit or deal with traffic. I wanted to find a small place with few residents. Easy for mom to walk around and easy to get to know everyone. A place with lots of activities to keep mom active. The staff is amazing and I'm grateful to know she's well cared for and as made lots of new friends. The staff and residents all start to feel like family.
