She is just awful! The receptionst is also a bitch do are the nirses there. This place should be locked down. The ceo is also rude and condesending. I hate this place of hell! I fo bot tecommend it

Cannot recommend!

My mother started out at "The Boulevard" which is an independent living facility, which is connected to Royce Place assisted living and Crestview nursing home. The boulevard was a very nice place. She very much enjoyed living there until her mental and physical health declined to the point where she needed access to more care. Because my mother was still able to "self-pay" she was able to get a private room at Royce Place. ( they really, really try hard to get and keep "self-pay" residence because they get so much more money than when they have to go on Medicaid.) but even the private rooms are very small, depressing and very isolating. (The shared rooms once you are on Medicaid are even worse) But this was my mother's choice at the time because she was familiar with the area. We decorated her room so it actually looked sort of cute, and then hoped for the best. It went from bad to worse! It was extremely difficult to get a hold of anyone by telephone to check on my mother. Even when we left messages, we were not called back. We were not notified when certain health issues came up with my mom. My sister finally called the head of Royce place and listed off her complaints. He apologized and said it should not have been this way and he will make sure it improves. It did improve… Temporarily! Then it was evident that my mother was quickly declining mentally and physically. We feel that she was overmedicated (Abilify) and wanted her evaluated to see if it could be cut back to see if she gained some strength back and her cognitive abilities improved again. We kept getting excuses and delays with getting that done and they kept telling us reasons they did not think it was the medication. Then, she started having falls. She had three falls within eight days. She laid on the floor calling for help one time for two hours! She had no way to contact staff and no one heard her calling. And the pull cords in her apartment are almost useless unless you fall right next to one, and even then it might be hard to reach. She also quickly got to the point where she couldn't toilet herself, get dressed, walk with a walker, or even use the phone to call. By this time they were minimizing her difficulties and saying she was absolutely fine and safe to stay there. They said that when she becomes a "two person assist" then it would be time for a higher level of care. So a short time later, even when she DID become a two person assist, they still wanted to keep her there! ($$$$- she was still a "self pay" resident ) they even neglected to put in her records that with one of her falls, two people tried to help her and needed to call two more people to assist! She is scared to death that she will fall again! She was very fortunate that she didn't hit her head and get any serious injury… Next time it could be very different! The first time we tried to get her out of there and move her to another facility with higher level of care, they did everything they could to keep her there. They talked to her and because she said she did not want to move, they would not cooperate with us even though we have medical power of attorney. ( my mother is under commitment from the courts because of her mental illness and lack of ability to care for herself and make her own decisions) Yet, when we tried to move her to a place we felt she would be much safer, they said that we had no say in the matter. She is also fearful of dealing with several of the aids. Of course it's hard to know what is reality because of my mothers delusional thinking, but she shared specifics that sounded very realistic about some of the attitudes and things they would say to her and how they would handle her in a semi – rough way. My mother would hold her bowel movements and urine for prolonged periods just to avoid seeing one of the "mean aids". She said there was always one that treated her with kindness and respect… Her name was ******* (Thank-you)!!! But her supervisor was extremely difficult to deal with from day one. My mom is definitely afraid of change, but even she realizes now that she is not safe to stay where she is at. My mother was always pleasant and easy to get along with. She has never raised her voice or complained to the staff. We as her family also have been pleasant and respectful to any staff we have talk to. But, because we are family members that pay attention to what is going on, and make sure their loved ones are properly cared for, we were treated like troublemakers. We realize that no facility is perfect. But the attitude of the staff makes a huge difference, and they definitely should have admitted that my mother needed a higher level of care that she was getting at Royce place, and not jeopardize her safety just to keep a "self-pay" resident. I could not recommend Royce Place to anyone! Thankfully, we now have arrangements in place for her to move to another facility where she can get the care she needs.

Friendly staff make up for older building

Very friendly staff make up for an older building. Feels like a little community. Overall, you could do a whole lot worse when looking for a place for your parent/grandparent. At the very least, these people really care about what they do.
