Before my 88-year old mom with dementia was admitted to a lovely memory care facility in Ormond Beach she had a short stay at Cindy’s. The preliminary paperwork and surprise fees were sketchy. Her first week there, she had to be taken by ambulance at my insistence for what sounded like a pneumonia. There was a large dog gated in the kitchen which we weren’t told about. Then, a few months later, we had a hurricane, and they lost power. Mom was on oxygen, and I was told that Cindy’s evac plan was to bring her patients to a hotel. But, instead she gave the room to her daughter and called me to come pickup my mom. When she got to my house, she was unable to walk, her ankles were badly swollen, and her medications were missing. I was able to get mom into the facility we’d been waiting for, so we went to Cindy’s to get her things. Her room was filthy, clothes were missing, and Cindy refused to reimburse her “maintenance fee” and rent. She was reported to DFS. A very stressful experience!

I was referred to Cindy’s by a social worker who was helping me with Medicaid filing for my 88-year old mom with dementia. I hastily placed her at this home as she required round the clock care. After 3 days I received a call from Cindy as my mom was wheezing heavily & there was a gurgling sound while breathing. I asked her to put my mom on the phone, and knew immediately she needed to call 911. For a so-called LPN Cindy should have known. After 2 months Hurricane Irma hit & Cindy contacted me to come pick up mom as she didn’t have electricity. I was told that mom and the other woman living there would be taken to a hotel as the “evacuation plan” but she gave the room(s) to her daughter & family. When mom got to my house she couldn’t no longer walk/stand/or scoot herself over into bed! Cindy didn’t have her walk around using her walker- she was either in bed or in a wheelchair. Her wheelchair pad was never washed and stunk of urine. After 5 days at my house, mom got her strength back and the edema in her feet had cleared up. Mom’s medication was also missing which led me to call DCFS and Vitas Hospice who also took care of her (doctor & nurse visits, meds). The investigator from DCFS filed her report & told me that Cindy didn’t have a license to operate an ALF nor did she have an LLC. There’s more to this story, but I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone!! It was dirty, mom was neglected, Cindy didn’t follow dietary restrictions, and misused medications for her patients. Find someplace else especially if you’re not able to visit very regularly and if your loved one has memory care needs/dementia/Alzheimer’s.

Upon a drive-by of this facility, our first impressions were: 1. We were disappointed in the neighborhood. 2. The facility was a duplex. 3. No parking. 4. Outside of house had a nice appearance, but we had concerns about the surrounding properties. Upon visiting larger facilities, we feel Mom would be happier in a larger facility atmosphere. We cancelled the appointment.

A Place for Mom has scored Cindy's Care Home 1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
