Carteret House

My mother who was 90 years old and suffering from mild dementia needed around the clock assistance. We placed her there in May of 2016 and she remained there until her passing in November of 2017. The people, from the top down, were all fantastic. Mom had excellent care and had a great relationship with the other occupants as well as the entire staff. Our burden was lifted from day one. We came home from work almost everyday and mom had fallen and could not remember how long she had been on the floor. We were afraid of what could happen, but that all ended when we got in touch with [Removed]at the Carteret House. We will never forget how wonderfully they cared for [Removed].

The director was very nice and informative. The place was clean and everyone we met seemed really nice. The rooms were two bedroom suites with a common area in the middle that slept two to each room. They were very spacious and the furniture was provided. They seemed to have plenty of activities and the menu was wonderful. They had good ratings by the state and all in all they seemed like they ran things very efficiently and took pride in their work. I think my mother will do well here.

There was no welcoming furniture but there was a very strong smell of smoke. Everything was plastic. I would not have put my mother there. They contacted me several times, telling me they were the only ones who accepted medicaid. Thank Goodness, my mother does not require that. Driving in, it's located near a prison so there's signs saying how far away the prison is. I walked in to the lobby they was one plastic covered couch and nobody to help you or greet you or even a desk to ask questions. I didn't even want to take a tour after that.
