I guess I would say that it is really difficult to find a facility that is going to give your lived one the care they need. As a family member, you need to be prepared to be involved. It goes beyond just "visiting" your lived one. Call, ask questions, be on top of your lived ones needs. I appreciate that, at Mission Inn, the staff was always friendly and in communication with me. The only two negatives were that they were always understaffed in all areas, which made things so stressful for the staff that was there. It made it difficult for me to visit my mom after work because there wasn't always someone at the front desk to let me in. The other negative was the food. My mom and step father always complained about the quality of the food.... Read more
At California Mission Inn, residents have their choice of independent living, assisted living, or memory care accommodations. This well-crafted Spanish-style home is located just twenty minutes from downtown Los Angeles in a suburb called Rosemead. Rosemead is a peaceful, pastoral community and is home to a number of small rabbit and chicken farms. West of the San Bernardino Mountains and close to the Southern California coast, this area is ideal for those who enjoy a blend of rest and excitement.
There’s rarely a dull moment at California Mission Inn! Their distinctive activities program is full of fun, informative, and entertaining events that everyone can enjoy. A few resident favorites are ice cream socials, music appreciation, cooking classes, and scheduled day trips so residents can go out and hit the town. The activities department works closely with each resident to develop a custom program that’s developed to meet their individual needs and preferences. Plus, don’t miss out on their chef-prepared meals, served three times a day in their spacious restaurant-style dining room.
Team members work together to provide a myriad of care services depending on your specific needs, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to more advanced memory care. They specialize...

I need to specify, I am in the Independent Living part of this facility. They also offer assisted living and memory care. I chose California Mission Inn because it was located in the area that I wanted to be living in. It was somewhat expensive (like everything is) but I could manage it, and they're open to people of all sorts of backgrounds.

The friendliness of the staff depends on who it is. [name removed] is great, others not so much. The communication system is horrible. I email top staff and I get no responses. I call staff and their voicemail is full. They never introduced the new medical director even in their newsletter. I think my loved one is being short-changed on the care my loved one is to receive but I can't be there all the time to watch.

My son and I felt a sense of welcome as our questions were answered. Our tour covered the facility as we met staff and residents during their daily activities. There was a feeling of warmth and emotional support.

I had to find an assisted living facility for my father who had been living in another city and could no longer live alone. I reached out to Hayden at California Mission Inn and he really helped me out!! He was very helpful and very empathetic. My father is very happy here and we enjoy having him close by. The staff at California Mission Inn is very nice to my father.

After my dad passed, my mom lived with me for over a decade. One day, a fall changed everything. The once independent person I knew suddenly needed a great deal of help. My mom recovered from her fall but would never recover 100%. It was at this time, it became clear that she needed to be in an assisted living/retirement community. The decision to move my mom was heart wrenching, stressful and guilt ridden. My mom and I toured various communities. Some were very expensive and others were depressing or dirty. The California Mission Inn was a perfect mix of value and kind/friendly staff with a good amount of activities. It was emotionally hard for both my mom and I for her to transition out of my house into the California Mission Inn. The warm and welcoming staff helped my mom feel comfortable and safe. It's been a little over a month now and my mom is settling in well. I'm thankful for A Place for Mom for helping set-up the tour of this community and I'm thankful for the CA Mission Inn.

Love love love [name removed], [name removed] and [name removed]. They are the heart of the caregiver staff. It would be a very qualified recommendation to other families. They're Extremely short staffed on the weekends. We have family with our Mom all day on the weekends. We have had several times when no caregiver has checked on her throughout the day.

I think the community has a lot of amenities and the staff is very friendly and responsive. They are also flexible in tailoring a plan based on your needs concerning monitoring and food.We chose this community based on location and the condition of the property which was newer and had more recent updates compared to other places.

This place is located in the area I wanted to live in, and had nice little independent living units with an available apartment space that I liked. Staff was friendly and easygoing.

Based on our experience, the California Mission Inn staff members that work at the community are kind and usually very responsive to us and my mom's needs. The facility is always very clean and always smells good.

My mother is currently a resident at California Mission Inn. The hardest part is the adjustment for my mother. She complains the most about the food, but everything else she seems really happy with considering she doesn't really want to be there. I would definitely recommend this facility to family and friends. They are very accommodating and supportive. They have been very flexible, too.

My loved one was the one who toured with California Mission Inn. She said that it was a nice facility, but it was more expensive and also they were not able to give insulin shots. That was the main reason we did not choose them.
The facility is under staffed, but I hear this is the case at most facilities. The one thing I do not like is that the facility hours are business hours. I work. So if I want to visit my mom after work, it is very challenging to get staff to come and open the door for me. On the plus side, I feel that my mom is safe because strangers cannot get in. The Nurse Facilitator, [name removed], is overwhelmed but still manages to accommodate you as best as she can. She is personable and really cares - she always puts your loved ones first. She continues to hand pick excellent staff that do their best to meet my parents' needs. More positives: each room/apartment has ac/heating, cable, and the grounds are very lovely! A few more concerns: residents complain about the food; there is not enough staff to provide a variety of activities (but the facility is working on that); there are no off site field trips as was advertised to me; and the cable has gone out in their room many times.

Don't take anyone there. There is no privacy, caregivers take young children there on weekends and have them go with them to change patients. They give you cold sandwich for dinner. Medication was not given on time. I had to clean the room and bathroom because in the month and a half that we were there it was only cleaned once. We had ants and water bugs. Much more to say but it was a horrible experience.

We toured California Mission Inn for our loved one, the tour was decent. But dealing with them after the tour was a nightmare. I would not recommend them at all. Terrible staff and lack of communication.
We provide care for some of the residents in this community, and we have seen how the staff are able to take care and look after their residents. The community has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere, very suited for people who are looking to have a place that is clean, spacious and at the same time be cared for by staff who goes above and beyond to exceed their resident's needs. Highly recommend this facility!

I was not impressed by our tour with California Mission Inn. I was not a fan of the staff or the residents that we interacted with and the facility looked very run-down. Overall just not the best experience.
California Mission Inn is a beautiful community, there are a lot of nice things to it but they are short staffed and they just recently had a new change in management which at times is worrisome. However, they are doing the best they can so we can see they have potential. The cleanliness of the community is excellent and when we are able to stay and visit the staff are very hospitable. As far as medication communication they have been really good. They have a lot of activities and just a few days ago we heard they had an Easter brunch that was super nice.

A Place for Mom has scored California Mission Inn 8.7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
