I agree with the review from March 2024. Some of the caregivers are wonderful and hard-working and doing a difficult job to the best of their abilities. Some of the staff spend too much time on their phones and not enough time caring for the residents. Staff seem to disappear after dinner and are hard to find. The activity director really does a lot to try and schedule activities and they do have some great music programs. I agree, old building and technology. Many new facilities have cameras to ensure resident safety and to monitor staff behavior. I'm not sure if this facility has any cameras. Staffing appears to be kept to the minimum, although more staff are really needed and residents are paying a lot of money. There are a few staff who are not patient with residents and really shouldn't be working in senior living and I agree with the other review on this statement also.

Brookdale Troy has been very accommodating and caring when taking care of my mother. The staff has always been very respectful and provided exceptional support. It has been a positive experience.

First the good - Some caregivers/staff are EXCEPTIONALLY wonderful, gentle and caring, really amazing, as they have a hard job. Some work double shifts and even the management steps in to help with the most basic caregiving sometimes. No bad smell, like some places we initially visited. Director, nurses and staff supervisor are friendly and available. Now the bad - Old building and technology. Staffing is kept at the state minimum, although more staff are really needed and residents are paying a lot of money. There are a few staff who are not patient with residents and really shouldn't be working in senior living. Few staff wear name tags or tell residents their names, so it doesn't feel personal. Residents have been referred to by room numbers, not names. There is little consistency with staff schedules, so residents' schedules are not learned by caregivers. Staff in assisted living seem to just assist residents with tasks, but not establish relationships with them, kind of cold. Some staff just talk to each other while helping residents, ignoring the residents completely. Some clothing and bedding (with names on them) disappear when sent to the laundry. Not sure if complaints are acted on. Those who own Brookdale must be making a fortune, but the local staff and caregivers are underpaid and overworked. I wish they would give the director what she needs. We expect better care at the price we are paying. I am sure this is the case at most places, but it's horrible. If Brookdale corporate treated/paid their employees better, I bet they could retain more quality people. I don't want them to lose the incredible people that they do have at this time.

The facility is continuously clean and is free of any odors, and kept in great shape. The staff there is very caring and also very respectful to the residents. Communications with the family were clear, and the staff was available to respond to any request. Meals were nutritious and always very well presented. I ate several meals there and found the food. very tasty. The moving process was uneventful and fairly easy. I would recommend Brookdale to anyone looking for a place that cares for their loved ones in particular if it's a memory care situation.

I have to say the daily care was wonderful. The patient care was very interactive, warm and friendly. We had a few experiences not so good. They had to call 911 too have my mom taken to the hospital In Feb late at night. When they my sister my Mom at the hospital she had no pants on except her diaper. It was freezing outside, found this totally unacceptable. She had fallen out of bed but clearly did not break any bones nor was she was she in any pain so there is no reason they couldn't put any pj pants on her. Another time I was trying to arrange to have a bag pipe player come for St Patricks Day who had played at my moms funeral. I made many phone calls to which I finally got a reply the day before St. Pat's and they said sure bring him in. I said too late now. I wish anyone would have replied to me. It was embarrassing when I had to tell the Bag Pipe player that we would have to cancel because no one was replying. The cleanliness was excellent, They take good care of the place and the patients. This is where I don't think you can find better. They are incredible. When it comes to the quality of care, again I don't think you can find better. Those gals are the absolute best and my mom loved spending time with them. Food was good and were always having fun with mom . Mom loved the activities, especially the music and dancing. I think this a a great deal for the cost. As long as Mom's happy are whole family was happy. Thank you a Place for Mom and Brookdale.

Find another facility. My husband was in the memory care building for a 2-week respite. He has dementia and needs assistance. His garments (under and outer) were only changed 3 times in one week. He fell and they didn't notify me. And no shower for several days. On the 10th day, I again requested a shower for him. They finally managed it, and after it was done, I packed up his things and brought him home 4 days early. I was very disappointed.

Our family had an in person tour and the community is very clean, extensive and nicely maintained. You definitely would be getting your money's worth here. However we just did not get that overall warm and fuzzy feeling, it did not seem like that had that personalized care it felt more cooperate.
I would recommend to find somewhere else. The staffing issue has not been the easiest to deal with. The care services lack due to the staffing issue. They are great when there are staff however, every time I go there is a new nurse and it would be better to have some stability and the same nurse.

September 3, 2021We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and are sorry to hear we are not meeting your expectations. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss with you further and encourage you to reach out to our local management team.
Our family was able to have an in person tour and the tour was nice but they only showed us the memory care side and our loved one had mild dementia. Another community was willing to accept our loved on but on the assisted living side, which we thought would be a better living situation for them.
The community is clean and friendly. The staff seem to work with you. The community is short of staff, and sometimes they can't get all the residents to activities. They try the best they can to assist the residents.

My father was only at Brookdale for a month before he passed away. My family and I were very pleased we placed my dad there because the staff was very efficient. Kudos to Asia, the wonderful nurse, Brookdale is fortunate to have. [Name removed] was compassionate and helped us every step of the way.

No matter how many times I've explained food preferences, there continues to be a problem meeting them. An infection was not noticed until a fall caused a trip to the hospital and then a stay at Heartland where better care could be given. Desk people were not prepared to accept monthly payments. Communication in general is a problem. Basic needs were met.

Do not let your loved one live here. The director has no control over her staff. Residents are unkempt and unclean. The shower room where they bath residents is disgusting. Food is terrible.

We toured quite a few communities and this one was very similar to all the others we looked at. The staff was very friendly and nice gave us very good information. The community was clean looked very good. They had a secure outside area for the residents to roam if they wanted.

This community and its staff are terrible. The person at the front desk is terrible, she's extremely unfriendly and rude when guesses come to visit and they stop at the front desk to sign-in, She makes a terrible impression and it goes downhill from there. This community is very poorly managed, it is [Removed], smells and the residents have to ask for things like toilet paper and then they're given just 1 roll. I made the mistake of using the public restroom and it was absolutely horrible inside [Removed] and who knows when it was cleaned last. It did not take me long to move my mother out of this community.

I did not have any problems during my tour of this community. My tour went well overall, and the experience was a nice one. The community looked nice, and everything was nice, and clean. The staff I met was kind, and helpful. It was not the one for us, but my tour was a good one.

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Troy 8.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
