They kept changing administrative staff upper management there. Nobody knew what the other person was doing, or what they had promised. My billing statement was never correct the day he was finally moved in. I had to keep bringing it to their attention, which should not have been my responsibility. The first year he was there. The ladies in the office were very helpful and took care of this matter [names removed]were wonderful and helped me out a lot to get this taken care of. The next year I don't know her name she was a black lady. I told her I wasn't happy with the increase that I was giving because same residence with the same situations were not given that high of an increase. She said she would check it out and would get back with me. She never did then another lady took it Over and she wore a lot of eye makeup and could care less if she talk to me at all. They raised his rate that they had to feed him, and they raised his rate that they had to lift him to and from his bed two person. I wanted to talk to her about this because every time I would come to feed him no one was feeding him and he had food all over him. So I was paying over [fee removed] charge each month for something they were not doing so since nobody wanted to talk to me as to why my rates went up more than anyone else's, and the extra charges being added, I moved my husband. I now pay half the cost. I would have with Brookdale and they do feed my husband and they do lift him to and from bed and they do put him in a recliner once in a while which Brookdale did not. With no extra charge. They even brought in a lift machine to help when needed again no extra charge. I have sent them letters after letters explaining why I do not feel I owe the extra charges and they are now sending me to collections. Although I could've sued them for HIPAA privacy Tracy, the main guy there told the new place without my permission, my husband was a wonder and combat. My husband is in a wheelchair with dementia and Parkinson's. I had to explain to the new place. My husband does not wander the halls and he can barely lift his hands to feed himself. Please believe me. I know Tracy told her this information because he did not want me to leave the place, because at that time, the place was not full of residence. That is just a few items he never had the right clothes in his closet. I paid almost [fee removed] for a mattress cover. They didn't have it on and he had soiled a new mattress it was stuffed up in his closet, I was not happy to have a new mattress ruined because of their laziness. I could go on about other situations but it will do me no good. Please do not recommend that place to anyone else.

Good, clean and decent size rooms with a big bathroom. Also provide cable, laundry and the meals. Three, three course meals. The staff is great and can accomodate most all requests. My dad is doing very well since he's been here. I am very happy with [name removed] and Brookdale.

From the warmth, kindness and experience exhibited by [name removed] at Brookdale to the interest given to not only my moms physical needs but also her emotional needs by [names removed] and the entire staff, we are becoming more comfortable with mom’s situation. Nothing is easy about Alzheimer’s or dementia but with a little compassion and assistance from others we are making it work. I can’t thank Brookdale in Topeka enough.

We were impressed right away with Brookdale on our first visit & tour. It is a beautiful facility inside & out. The staff is very friendly and good with the residents. They do a lot of fun activities with the residents and sometimes involve their families as well. I think this is so important and rewarding for everyone involved. The activity directors are excellent, as well as the other staff members. It really is a little community of people who share so much in common and have made Brookdale their new home. The last few months have definitely been an adjustment for our family since dad passed away. But, we are so thankful that we found a place for our mom where she is safe, comfortable, and has capable people to help her with her daily activities and needs.

Response from Brookdale Topeka
April 18, 2024Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Your feedback will be shared with management.
I would definitely recommend the facility. I was always impressed with how friendly and personable the staff was. I feel like they truly care about the residents. I would have liked to see a little better housekeeping in my mom's room. The best part was the number of activities and the activities director. She was fantastic!! The move in process was great and they made it easy. They also encouraged me to always ask questions and they did a great job of calling me if they had concerns or issues with my mom. After we first moved her in, the nurse called me each day for about two or three days to alleviate any concerns I may have about mom settling in.

The care my mom has received from staff at Brookdale has helped to ease our family's burden of placing our mother in a facility. The staff (nursing, activities, administrative, and custodian/maintenance) are caring and patient. The house physician and nursing staff have done a great job modifying medications to decrease my mom's suffering and improve her behavior. The nursing and activities staff are excellent and spend time talking to and engaging the residents in activities they enjoy. I highly recommend Brookdale.

They have gone far and beyond. [name removed] has been incredible. My dad passed away from cancer and he was very protective over my mom and sometimes he would get agitated, but [name removed] handled it with such grace and made the transition so good, it was so easy. They are very good about educating families about the process and what is going on and encouraging families to participate and stay engage. Everything is set up specifically for those with memory care problems. They are patient and willing to answer any question at anytime They really try to get her to engage in the activities and try to include her as much as they can. They have been amazing with communication and let you know what to expect. They also let you personalize their rooms so it does not feel sterile. When you walk into the facility, you truly feel like you are at home. I would absolutely recommend them without a doubt. I have that peace of mind since moving her here and I know I do not have to worry about her.

We had a good experience with Brookdale Topeka and the staff was good to work with. Communication between the community and myself was good. I was there in person a lot, but they also reached out through email and text. The community is all on one floor and it's both safe & locked. Activities include a variety of different things like cards, movies, crafts, baking, and a little bit of everything. I would recommend Brookdale Topeka to others.

Response from Brookdale Topeka
April 25, 2022We appreciate you taking the time to visit and share your feedback. We are committed to quality service and care and will review your feedback with our management team.
I would recommend you consider the needs of your loved one before placement. I have learned a lot of things during my loved one being here. I would recommend you ask questions and explore all the information you can before you place your loved one here. The community will allow for the staff to assist the residents with eating meals, as long as you pay for this care. It would be helpful for the staff to do a better job in catering to this need of my loved one then they currently do. The staff have tried to encourage my loved one into activities in the community. I think the staff is stretched thin. The aides are the least paid; however, they work very hard.

Response from Brookdale Topeka
March 14, 2022We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and hope you will contact our management team to further discuss.
We did a virtual tour with Brookdale. The facility seemed very nice and had a big courtyard in the middle. We did not choose this facility because of the cost, it was too expensive when you went up in levels of care.
