Very competent and attentive staff They could improve on the food by listening to the feedback that the residents have.

This is a beautiful facility. The staff is very nice. Nursing care is excellent. I highly recommend Brookdale Spruce Wood to others looking.

I wish I could speak highly of Brookdale Spruce Wood, but sadly, I cannot do that in good conscience. Most of the nurses have good intentions, but they are hamstrung by not having enough of them and being forced to abide by rules that in many cases make no sense. The administration has been poor, nothing that some firing couldn't fix and ASAP! Another problem is that "Brookdale" is a huge corporation and it appears that the corporation doesn't communicate well with the individual locations, not a good thing. Before you consider sending a loved one to Brookdale Spruce Wood, ask a lot of questions. How do they manage communication to family and friends of the loved ones? At what point in time does your loved one require more care than they're able to give and you either have to move them or personally hire additional people to sit with your loved one every day? If you move a loved one into memory care and think you're all set, you may be mistaken. There are better places nearby.

Brookdale Spruce Wood community gets a 5 in all categories, they have exceeded all expectation's our family has had. We would recommend them to other families who may be looking for a place for their loved ones.

My parents moved into Brookdale Sprucewood in Feb 2022. They quickly made friends, and engage in community activities. Everything they need is provided right where they live!

We are very happy our parents are there.Well the cost was less than 2 of the places we toured and about the same as another, however it was the staff that was so welcoming, as well as the other residents. My mom grew up in Durham as well. It was the place my Dad liked the best( mom was in rehab for the tours, however she did tour Brookdale before deciding.)

Nice facility, rent last year 12.5% excessive. Old heat/water equipment needs to be upgraded. Hot water can be a problem, old system.

Wonderful place to reside. Rural setting is beautiful. Staff is helpful and friendly. Immaculately clean at all times. I've made a lot of friends here and hope I can stay a long time.

Been here almost 5 years and am very happy. Wonderful facility and staff. Size is perfect and it feels like family! Lovely dining and other common rooms.

We had visited a lot of places in our search to find a place for my parents and Brookdale at Sprucewood felt like home to them right away. The staff was amazing, anticipating their needs and constantly going with extra mile

As a recently new resident (5 months) I have been welcomed with open arms and treated with complete respect. The ratings below perfect are due to unforeseen staffing issues but let it be known that the entire staff here steps up to the plate to insure everything runs smoothly and that every resident is cared for properly in all areas. Kudus to all!!

We've had a great experience with Brookdale Sprucewood. Dad says the desserts are amazing! I am particularly pleased with the medical attention my parents received. Way more than giving them daily meds. They test blood sugar 4 times a day and administer insulin. There is a primary care doctor who visits once a week, and other doctors who visit monthly. For seniors who need a bit more medical attention, Brookdale is a great choice.

Amazing community, my mother LOVES it! Facility is very nice , needs some updating (e.g. emergency lighting, bigger generator to support the building during storms. Most full time staff have been there for some time and are very kind and loyal but they are definitely understaffed post covid and don't have enough hourly help to support full dining hours or to have a team of handymen supporting the building need etc. Those are my only observations but again my mother being safe and in a caring environment that is bright and clean is absolutely everything. My mother was super depressed and angry before we brought her to Brookdale. So she was angry the first few weeks she was there. But the staff kept trying with her, and now she's happy and thriving. She's interacting with people and has settled into the routine. She enjoys the food. The staff really try to keep the residents interactive with other people and with the activities, and I really appreciate that.

We picked Brookdale Spruce Wood because of the feel of the facility when you walk in. It is bright, has wide hallways, and no institutional. It does not feel like you are in a hospital, it much closer to being like an apartment building. The only downside is because of the cost we had to get a studio instead of a one bedroom apartment. Another positive is the way they serve their food. They have all day food options so you can go down there at anytime and that is a big plus. I would highly recommend this facility.

It's a very open, very comforting place. It feels like an old Victorian home. The people that I've met have all been very nice, and it seems my loved one has made a lot of friends already. I feel like they offer plenty of activities, but maybe they could improve on getting her to be more active in participating.

I do not recommend Brookdale Spruce Wood at all. They have gone through 3 directors since their time here and the nursing staff is very unresponsive to my father in assisted living. They have gone through at least 3 chefs and he was getting frozen pizza for meals, so it is not good quality foods which is what they need. I will sometimes see other family members here when I drop off food and they are taking their loved ones out of the facility because it is so bad. I would not recommend to others looking.

Enjoyed our tour and the place is beautiful, clean and cheery. Out presenter was knowledgeable and we really feel like this would be a good fit. Will be looking into Brookdale more.
