I would say it is fine not outstanding. The activities director is good and the RN on staff is very good. Some of the aides/caretakers complain of having too much to do. The front end person is on her phone a lot with personal drama. I was contacted when my mother had issues with health. Also my mother is going into memory care as her dementia has worsened.

Response from Brookdale Smithfield
August 16, 2024We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and are sorry to hear we are not meeting all of your expectations. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss with you further and encourage you to reach out to our local management team.
I found it difficult to access staff, medical staff, who should have answers to my questions re obtaining consults for Hospice and to assure me that her DNR order would be honored. No follow up to complaint re Mom being left in wheelchair for over 2 hours and no access to call bell!!! Some staff where more friendly than others. The chef went out of his way to be friendly. Music would have been nice, knowing other options. Only one activity, no director, no reminder for the one activity. Two church members who led singing of hymns and a short message

Staff is excellent. Very helpful and very friendly. Facilities are clean and well decorated- feels very "homey." Meals could be better - according to Mom they are often served cold or lukewarm. Then again she is very picky. Cost went way up this new year, but still good value.

Our family had an in person tour and all the staff we met with seemed really nice but it was just to far out of our budget
the staff at Brookdale are great and very informative. they promote friendliness and encourage a mutual awareness of your loved ones needs. when i've visited Brookdale, the residents are always interacting in engaging activities and seem to be enjoying themselves. this community is on the expensive side, but i can not undervalue my gratitude and the level of care my loved one is receiving here. i feel comfortable knowing my loved one is being cared for here, as there is a sense of collaboration between the families and Brookdale. my loved one adjusted very well into the Brookdale family and i would recommend this community to anyone looking.

Overall this is a good community. They just say that they can assist in different things but they do not have the time do them as stated. Overall I feel that the staff are doing the best that they can with the residents.

For a senior who is independent and only needs a little bit of assistance that this would be an ideal community. If your loved one is a fall risk I would say to look for somewhere where there is more supervision or observation.

We love the Brookdale Smithfield community, our loved one says the food is really good but does sometimes get a little repetitive. Compared to other places the value is good. Int he beginning we thought the people were extremely nice and helpful, the place was clean and well kept, it has a very welcoming feeling. They have gotten through this entire pandemic without any positive cases which is astounding, they are very careful. We feel that our loved one is safe there, and anytime we call with a problem it is fixed immediately.

They are a horrible place to put a loved one. My loved one wasn't bathed, and we had to pay extra for her to be cared for. I ended up having to wash her hair and bathe her every time I went to visit. She fell one time and they had to have EMS to come get her. The EMS feel that my loved one was laying there for hours. She arrived with no shoes and no underwear. The EMS waited for me to get to the hospital for over two hours, to tell me this. No one from the community went with my mother on the ambulance, or called to check on my mom. The hospital is only 5 minutes away. My family was very engaged and went to see my loved one daily or every other day. We even paid for a sitter to sit with her for two hours daily, because we felt she wasn't being checked on or engaged with. The bathrooms had no paper towels or toilet paper. We had to request this every time we went to visit. The staff said the residents had depends so it didn't matter. The staff was always friendly. The management wasn't responding and kept asking what we wanted them to do, and they didn't have a lot of staff. There was a night that my loved one was wondering with their walker. My loved one fell in another resident's room and the resident complained my loved one was in this resident's room, and he had to step over my loved one twice to be able to go to the restroom After my loved one moved out, there was a newspaper article that there was a rape of a resident at this community.

I would recommend this community. The friendless and the service of the nurses for the residents was great. The communication has been good. The room was very nice and we provided all the furnishings for it. The food was not cared for by my loved one.

They seemed to keep the community clean and I never noticed any areas that were not well maintained. The staff was always very nice to my mother. The care was also very good as were the activities. Compared to other communities in the area, they were definitely worth the price.

A very nice place, however we didn't feel there was nearly enough attention payed to my loved one or his care. We also had hospice come in to give him a bath a couple times a week, and Brookdale wanted to charge us for the bath, even though they were not involved at all in the process. They wouldn't even wake him up to go to breakfast. We moved him from Brookdale because of this. We moved him before the 30 days were up on his lease and we were told we would get the entire sum of his community fee back, however we never received it.

My father has been a resident at Brookdale Smithfield since March. Our experience with Brookdale has been a very pleasant one. The facility is very clean. The food is good and the staff is very caring and helpful. My only suggestion is that they could plan more outside activities like light gardening...something that could help the residents feel like they're accomplishing something.

This looked like a nice clean community when we visited. This community does allow pets and they offer daily activities. This community was nice, however I did not think it was the right fit for us.

This seemed like a nice community when we visited. It was larger than what we were looking for and it felt more official. The people I met were nice and the community seemed clean.

The people are really nice and go the extra mile to help and answer questions. I've had only positive experiences at the Smithfield location. My mom has some dementia and we know it's only a matter of time befor she will have to go to a memory care facility. Thankfully, Brookdale at Smithfield has a memory care secure unit on site so the transition will be easy and convienant for mom and our family. The facility is very clean and neat. When you walk in you don't feel like you are at a facility, you get the sence your at someones home and that is wonderful!! They have diffrent levels of care all based around the needsof the individule. I would recomend this assisted living "Home" to anyone.
