Brookdale has very caring staff. They listen when we have concerns and do their best to correct issues. Communication with us is good if mom falls or shows a medical change. They make sure to call us and keep us informed. Our family member seems happy there. The staff are very patient with the resident's. The place is clean. Downside. Mom has had a couple falls. They have quickly called us to ask If we wanted her sent to the hospital to be checked out. If mom refuses her shower they do not try very hard to ensure she gets one. Shower pressure not good. Could use some improvement. No place is perfect but mom seems happy. She gets along great with staff.... Read more

From the Assessment of my Mom's mental and physical limitations to move-in day, we have been completely impressed with the management team and staff this facility. The compassion and teamwork in every visit!

I would say that it all boils down to the nursing staff in any of these shamefully exorbitant expensive communities! The nursing staff needs to receive the pay and recognition they deserve for taking care of loved ones. So we need to contact our state legislators to make that happen. All facilities should have both a functioning resident & family councils to dialogue with management to improve conditions.

Response from Brookdale Olympia West
June 25, 2024Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Your feedback will be shared with management.
My loved one is currently a resident at Brookdale Olympia West. The office staff is okay. Some nurses are okay and some are not all. They lost 2/3 of my loved one's stuff when she moved rooms even with her name on most of it. Things are broken, the room is not as clean as it should be and the place has a smell to it. Many things need repaired. My loved one was moved because the room she was supposed to have wasn't really available, so she had to go into a smaller room for a month. So, the move upset her. The meals are only fair. My loved one won't eat a portion, as she says it is yuk. For two weeks now, I've had to call the Director about my loved one's lost items and about her smelling and not getting showers. Improvements should be made on all of the above and on the hiding nurses on the weekend. At this point, I would NOT recommend Brookdale Olympia West to others.

I never give the top rating, as there is always room for improvement. Socks and bedding have gone missing. Mom has had a lot of falls, which resulted in 4 trips to the ER. The staff is very friendly.

I would not recommend Brookdale Olympia West. The rooms are shabby and overused. Instead of the staff taking care of an issue with my father in law and being with him until the issue was resolved, the administrators threatened to drop him off at the hospital and leave him until we picked him up. This is a facility specifically for dementia. It was unconscionable. We took him home that day.

We are disappointed in the lack of activities as well as the shamefully exorbitant cost, but these are both probably widespread issues with memory care facilities as well as not having enough staff well trained in dealing with patients with dementia and Alzheimer's.

Brookdale Olympia West is a fantastic facility. Unfortunately for us the location was too far away and it was too expensive. I was very impressed by the staff. They followed up with me several times - and it was not to get him to try and go to Brookdale, but it was because they truly cared that we found a facility that was a good fit for my loved one.
We really like that we have access to our loved one at this community, unlike our loved ones previous one. We can come and go when we want, we can go sit with her in the cafeteria and go into her room if needed. The staff do a good job keeping it as clean as they can be we understand its hard to keep these communities super clean. The meals are really good.

I've had billing issues which take a long time to straighten out. The activities seem a tad juvenile, but it is a memory care facility so far probably appropriate although my dad doesn't participate much.

The staff here at Brookdale Olympia West are very helpful. They maintain good communication if they need something. The food looks really good. When we first brought my loved one there, he mentioned he was hungry and they brought out a sandwich. He doesn’t eat much normally, but he ate the entire sandwich. They are very careful of his diabetic diet, and he enjoys eating the food. They have a lot of men, so they’ve created a ‘gentleman's club’ where they do a lot of activities together. There’s an activities area specifically geared towards the interest of the men there. They also have activity boxes, so when family members come to visit we can do stuff with him instead of sitting there talking the entire time. It’s a secure, welcoming community. It smells nice and is very clean. There’s two outdoor courtyard areas, and they take my loved one on walks outside. He loves the outdoors and used to hike, so he appreciates the outside time. They also take them to events and outings outside of the community; just the other day they went for coffee. He wasn’t able to experience any of those things at his previous community. There’s a nurses station as soon as you walk in, you can stop and chat with them. There’s an onsite doctor as well, this eliminates the need for us to come pick him up and transport him to any appointments. They actually visited his previous community and performed an assessment before they accepted him. This was big for us because we didn’t have to come pick him up and take him over. [Name removed], the executive director, she was fantastic to work with. [Name removed] was very helpful as well. At first, we were indecisive of Brookdale and she called to offer insight or provide information on other communities. She emphasized that we did not have to choose Brookdale, she just wanted to help us find a good fit. She had a very helpful and non-pushy approach. Overall, the difference has been night and day. It’s been a great experience.

It was very clean. The staff were very nice, but they understaffed and just didn't have enough help. My loved one went into hospice pretty quickly after moving in, and hospice did a better job with communication than Brookdale.

Everybody here has been great. They are amazing with communication, they always call me to let me know how he is doing. If they ever have any covid cases they call me right away as well. When I visit the staff are all talking to him. It has a family type atmosphere. Everything is cooked on site and it makes the facility smells great. I would highly recommend to others looking.

Our family had a virtual tour and it was a good tour experience but it was really location that was the deciding factor and it was just to far away.
We toured during Covid, so they could hardly show us much of anything. We were only able to look in the windows at a sample room. And we got to meet with the director in his office just off the main entrance. He was very nice, capable, and gave plenty of information. But I really couldn't imagine moving in without seeing more of the facility.

August 16, 2021Thank you for taking the time to visit our community and share your feedback. Our community has so much to offer and we would love for you to come back to visit again!
This community is expensive. The care is moderate, it's not the best. It doesn't feel like the aides are as close to the residents, as I've seen in past communities. I've received calls at all hours of the day and night. This is due to the wrong medication being given or other issues. There is no physician on site to assist the residents. The care could be better. However, please check them out. I went with this community because it was close to me. The community won't allow me to come and take my loved one to their medical appointments. I wish I could do this, instead of paying for this service. The community was allowing outdoor visits, but they have stopped due to a spike in cases of the pandemic. I don't think my loved one seems as happy, as the other communities they have been in.

My mom was moved to another room at one point. When I visited, I noticed that the furniture I brought over was not in her new room. The staff was very unhelpful in tracking it down. It was never found. I assume someone on staff stole it, as it was nice furniture. The staff is pretty useless.

I was impressed with [name removed] who showed compassion and shared her own personal experience with us regarding her own personal experience regarding her fathers care with an in home provider. I have been hesitant regarding in home care for my dad and know that it will be to his benefit for assisted living. I really liked the facility and being close to capital medical center. The facility was clean and the staff was friendly, and helpful. It will be at the top of our list.

After visiting the Brookdale Olympia west, I was very impressed with the friendly staff, just about everything they had to offer, but was VERY turned off by the older gentleman sitting in a wheelchair in a hallway that smelled of ammonia-urine. You could smell him before you got close to him which really upset me. I know it takes more then a day for urine to get that ammonia smell, so what was up with that? Very upset over that, and when we got outside, we both agreed that was not a good thing.

This memory care facility is beautifully designed and structurally appealing. However, while my wife was there, the organization of how the facility was structured was not ideal. They don’t attempt to separate the highly functioning residents from the more advanced residents, which made it difficult for my wife to easily interact with the higher functioning people. She had specific dietary needs that they tried to accommodate and I would bring in some specialty items for her use. There were a few activities available as well, but they didn’t appear to differentiate between the different needs of the residents. This community wasn’t ideal for my wife’s needs, however it might be the right fit for an individual that isn’t as highly functioning.
