My mother spent the past year in Brookdale on Dickinson in the memory care. She passed away 2 weeks ago We had Gentiva hospice in place and The staff at Brookdale were wonderful. I will say that the food was not very good.
Good place if an assisted care is needed. The staff are very and helpful. The meals are as good as can be expected. Laundry is managed two times per week. Medications are carefully administered. The facility is nice and well kept.

My loved one is a resident at Brookdale Dickinson Avenue. Things are going very well. I visit daily. Most of the staff know me. They are very friendly to me. They do an excellent job taking care of my loved one. The food appears to be good and a variety.

The staff have been over the top friendly. They are always attentive, professional, kind and responsive. I feel like they all know my mom, and recognize me any time I visit. I would recommend the facility--it's spotless and pleasant. The overall cost of care is a shocker, but I don't think it's unique to Brookdale.

This is our first experience in this type of care environment. We are very pleased with the care and compassion we have been shown. Our mother is slowly adjusting to her environment. Everyone is helping us through this difficult time.

They are very friendly until you sign contracts. My father was there 10 days and lost 12 lbs. It took us an hour to get him clean. His bottom was matted with fecal matter, he was dehydrated, he was in dirty smelly clothes, he had not had his teeth brushed. They promised activities but they stuck them in the hall in wheelchairs or they just wandered. They kept adding fees after telling us things were already included. I wouldn't put a dog in that place. Horrible facility!

They give good answers to questions but do not follow through. My husband wad there for a month and only had 2 showers. The shower drain had feces in it, and after I took a picture and pointed it out to the RN,it was still there 2 days later. There was little interaction and was quoted one price and of course it raised before the month was out. I would go in and they just sat my husband in a chair and turned on a TV to entertain him. I found him almost falling out of the chair on numerous occasions. I would NOT recommend Brookdale to anyone. I took him out due to the poor conditions.

I cannot recommend them. They were kind enough, But the things that convinced me to get him set up there, they didn't do. They indicated they had activities to help the residents cognitively. I was worried about his movement and ability to stay active. They did not help with any of those things. He went in walking, and when he left there, he never walked again. They always had him in a wheelchair and never helped him get up and moving. He had machine was never brought to him. When I asked them about, they did admit they weren't using it. They said it was because he would get up in the night and pull the machine off the table. He fell MANY times. Sometimes they told me. Other times they either didn't know or didn't tell me, but I would find big bruises on him. He had trouble eating and was supposed to have a divide plate, a weighted fork and spoon, a straw for his cup, and his food cut up for him in the kitchen. I was there every day and did not see that occurring. They had a water break during the cold, and moved him elsewhere temporarily, where they misplaced all his clothes and Depends. Before moving him into Brookdale, I talked to them over and over about falls and all of his various needs, and they assured me they could care for him. And I am SO disappointed that those needs were not being met.

February 20, 2023We are sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We take your comments seriously and have shared your concerns with our management team for review.
I toured Brookdale Dickinson Avenue and it was a good experience. Their campus and staff were both very good. We chose another community as it all boiled down to cost and Brookdale was a bit too expensive.
While our loved one was at Brookdale, he never had his nails cut, his facial hair was never shaved, and only showered twice. Nobody prompted him or encouraged him to keep up his mobility to pick up water cups, and silverware. When we came to visit he could not even pick up the water cup, it was like he completely forgot how to use his hands. He was severely dehydrated. The basic care needs our loved one required were never met. We felt they tried to nickel and dime everything and tack on extra levels of care we did not feel was necessary. We felt like we were deceived.

my loved one was here for 2 weeks and they could not handle his needs. They were not equipped to handle his needs. The price went up [cost removed] after my loved one moved in and we took him out due to this increase. The way in which they engage I feel is not always respectful. My father did not get the full experience he was technically pushed out from this community.

We chose Brookdale Dickinson because of the close location to my sister and we liked that it was small and more of a country, homey atmosphere. The room sizes here are really good, it is plenty big and meets his needs. Even though my dad doesn't participate, they offer a lot of activities. Overall It has been a very positive experience and I would recommend them.

Our family had a porch tour with this community and it was a very nice facility. We were able to step inside and we did think it was a very nice facility, but we chose a different community just based on location and which one was closest to our family.
My husband went here during the virus and I was not able to enter the facility. I called everyday since I was not able to see him and we never got any updates or communication from Brookdale. Whenever I talked to him he said he wanted to come home and he did not like the place. They would not let him see his doctor and they started giving him drugs to make him drowsy. He was sent to the hospital multiple times without being dressed and they told the hospital they were not going to take him back. They did not tell me that. They had inadequate staff at Brookdale due to the virus, they were over medicating him since they did not have the staff to handle the residents. We would never recommend Brookdale Dicksinson Avenue to anyone.

We chose Brookdale Dicksinson because when we looked here there was immediate availability. When we toured the Alzheimer's unit we were pleased with what they had to offer. She was going to have a roommate and we were able to meet her and they are really good friends now and have bonded. The whole unit has really felt like family. I would want others to know when looking into this facility that you are able to contact them at anytime and show up at anytime, there is not set up visitation. They are very accommodating especially with COVID, we have been able to do window visits and zoom visits with the residents. I would recommend.

The staff is very friendly. They really seem to care about the residents. However I feel that this facility is understaffed. I think that for the cost of living there some improvements could be made. The call bell system is outdated and has been “out of order” at least twice in the last few months. Mealtime also seems chaotic and at times food has taken as long as 45 minutes to be delivered. The activities that are provided are fun and full of variety. A great time is enjoyed by all.

The staff here is caring and their heart is in the right place. Unfortunately, they are understaffed,so Mom often has to wait a long time for help. Most of the staff goes out of their way to be helpful and courteous to the residents, The food is not very good at all here. They do not always serve what is on the menu. An example occurred in November when the lunch menu called for beef sirloin, mashed potatoes, and green beans, and the actual meal was vegetable soup and a turkey sandwich. The residents complain frequently about the poor quality of the food and its preparation. They have met with management on several occasions to hopefully get this corrected. The perception is that management is trying to skimp on food in a cost-cutting move. Brookdale Dickinson Avenue is a nice, clean, well-maintained community with none of the telltale smells so common in senior care communities care facilities. Mom is very happy that laundry service is provided 2x a week. I love that this facility is a smaller place, with fewer than fifty residents. Mom had a beautiful view from her window. The grounds outside her room are well-maintained, with flowers and a birdfeeder she can see. I would like for communication between administration and the families of the residents to improve. There was a holiday dinner that took place before Thanksgiving. No mailing was ever sent to my home informing me of this event. I also wish that promises made by administration were carried out efficiently. For the money charged for the facility, personal care, and the initial Brookdale membership fee of $2500, I would like more "bang for the buck". Overall, I am satisfied that this is the best facility for my Mom at this time in her life. I would recommend this place to other prospective residents.

The person that took us on tour of this community was friendly. This community looked clean. This community seems to offer some nice activities and amenities. The community we chose was closer to family.
