Avalon House on Woodland Drive

My husband has resided at the Avalon House on Woodland Drive for nearly 3 months now. His health is poor but his care is wonderful. All the care team are both loving and skilled. He is always kept comfortable, clean and well-fed. The Med-Tech makes absolutely sure that instructions from his medical care team are followed to the letter. The decision to put a loved one in a nursing home is never easy, but it is made easier by this very warm environment. And there is often laughter in the house, which adds to the good energy. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart.

My mother was a resident of Avalon on Woodland Drive from 2020 until her death in September 2023. I am forever grateful to the staff for the amazing and compassionate care she received throughout her time there and especially at the end. I could not have asked for a better situation. They really knew my mother. She needed help with all aspects of life and the team treated her with dignity and respect. She had her own room, she was well fed, always had clean clothes and was well groomed. She had the same main caregiver for all three+ years. The common areas were always clean and organized. I had looked at a lot of options prior to landing on Avalon, I liked the care philosophy and the cost compared to other private homes in the Northern Virginia area was incredibly reasonable. The team at Avalon made my mother's last years as good as they could be with Alzheimer's. Thank you for everything.

Dad has been a resident at Avalon 7 for more than 4 years. The staff welcomed and made him feel at home from day one. Always pleasant, attentive, and calm, the staff ensures dad's needs are met, he is very comfortable, very well fed, clean, and safe. The staff's diligent attention to dad's medical needs and their communication with us and his medical providers gives us peace of mind knowing that he is in good, professional, and caring hands.

When we first visited we spoke with [name removed] who is within the management team and she spent so much time with us and really helped us with the transition. Avalon House is very clean, and we liked how this was a house and not a large community. It had a limited number of residents, and it was quite. We thought our loved one would be most comfortable here. Overall it was a great first impression.

Nice group home setup, max 8 residents, in a "McMansion" home on a quiet street, good for residents with dementia. Spacious open kitchen/DR/LR setting good for family visiting. Currently this house (among others in small Avalon chain) serves dementia residents, and the price is excellent for the care, nearly half the cost of nursing home. Attractive environment inside, clean, and no smells other than aide [name removed]'s good cooking. Two main live-in aides are easygoing but attentive, setting a relaxed and positive atmosphere. We moved Mom and Dad there recently since our 24/7 aide setup at home couldn't handle bed-to-wheelchair transfers anymore for Dad, but Avalon staff managed to do it, so Dad was able to wheel around again. (Dad passed away recently after six weeks there, but I'm satisfied that he received excellent care.) Avalon has an efficient setup, and staff are thoughtful and flexible in figuring what works best for the individual. They know what they're doing. With live-in staff, care is consistent, and they know residents' habits well. Lovely people. One daughter of a resident we met said her mom has been there five years (a testament in itself) and without one bedsore. I'll be telling friends about this place.

Management - [Name removed] - was extraordinarily kind and compassionate. Home was comfortable with a clean pleasant atmosphere. Caretakers we’re engaged and upbeat. Kitchen smelled delicious from breakfast and homemade chicken soup for lunch. Price was reasonable and relatively stable.

A wonderful home. People are terrific. So glad it was suggested!

We don't have much experience with these sorts of places, but so far we have been very impressed with Avalon House. It is a nice looking place, the people are friendly, and they seem to be taking good care of my loved one.

I think the move-in process could be a little bit more streamlined, as the process was a little bit unorganized. It would have been helpful if they had an organized process to get us acclimated and let us know what we were facing and what to expect. The owner there is really great though, and keeps us informed and is quick to respond any time we have any questions. Overall it has been a very positive experience. So far so good.

Very fine directors who have carefully chosen their personnel. Very caring and thoughtful caregivers,excellent and plentiful food, great facility,great ancillary people. It is a challenge caring for patients but they do it with grace and they aim to please.

Met with Georgia. Very informative. Nice facility. Seems it would be cheaper than Sunrise....but, it is soooo far away.
