My mother was cared for at this facility for several months. The caregivers were loving and conscientious. I visited often and each time I came my mother was clean and comfortable. I, myself, always felt welcomed. I was very happy with the family atmosphere and I liked that they had a registered nurse on staff. I always felt confident that my mother was getting the best of care. I thank this family for treating my mother as if she were part of their family. Having a loved one in a care facility is difficult. Having her at this facility made it easier.... Read more

From our first meeting, I was pleasantly surprised with the friendly, cohesive, family oriented atmosphere. After my mom moved in, I visited many times. No matter when I came, I was warmly greeted by a staff member, usually a member of the family. Although my mom’s health deteriorated quickly because of her illness, she continued to be cared for as if she were part of their family. They listened to us and incorporated her preferences in regards to such things as food and tv shows. My mom was always clean and comfortable. I highly recommend you entrust you loved one to this caring family run facility.

It was a beautiful house, and my first choice for my husband. It was a little pricey, but my husband loved it too, so we went ahead and signed up. He was going to get a G-tube placed, and we needed a facility that could provide that type of care. The owners said they could. So he moved in, and by 10 pm that same day, they called me to say I needed to come pick him up, that he could no longer stay there. He got upset because she wanted to hold his hand to get him to the bathroom, those kinds of things. When initially she told us they would let him be as independent as possible. He had just come from another assisted living facility and was insulted that he now wasn't being allowed to do things by himself. Because he was so upset, he did yell, which I don't deny, and I understand that is not ideal behavior. Avalon said he greatly disturbed the other residents in the house. They said if we could get some medication in him to calm him down, they could take him back, but it would now be $[removed] more per month than the amount we signed the contract for. He was 10 days in the hospital, and we decided we didn't think it would be a good fit to take him back and asked Avalon for a refund. We had the room tied up for a week or so, and I was willing to pay for that time. The contract said nothing about what the refund would be if you were evicted. The only thing I could find is that they had to give a 3 day notice to evict, and he had only been there six hours. They only refunded me $1400 of the over $[removed]I had paid to them. They told me they couldn't give me $[removed] of it back because it was given to hospice service. And hospice was never even there. I also called their hospice service, to see if they had been paid that and could refund me the money. They were appalled and said they had not. So we reported Avalon to the Ombudsman, who investigated, including whether or not this facility is even licensed to care for a G-tube. Beware that when you sign the contract, they can take any amount of your money for services they're not even providing.

A Place for Mom has scored Avalon Guest Manor I 7.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
