Robust services needing more staff.

I have found overall that Alpine Way Continuing Cate Center has done a good to great job servicing my father. They need an additional driver to take residents to and from shooing but we are trying to make the Mon-Wed before 8-2pm work. Dad days the food is ok to good on some days and others not the best. They do have a menu of scheduled meals and an ala-carte menu.Staff have been really good and kind in my and my father's transition. Where's the insulin?

We had an unfortunately terrible experience with Alpine. They could not regulate my mom's blood sugar levels. She is Type 1 diabetic and they were using insulin pens. Her BS count was going through the roof, 600+ on several occasions. Midnight calls to the ER, Alpine not wanting to take her back. It was a nightmare. The thing is she wasn't eating anything, no breakfast, more insulin, no lunch, more insulin, no dinner more insulin, then to ER. I know, I was there. What is SO PUZZLING, is that they were able to regulate her BS at Mason Hospital several times, They were able to regulate her BS at Madigan Hospital both times. And now they have been able to regulate her BS levels for over a month now at Woodland, using the very same insulin pens. So you have to ask yourself the obvious... Why was my mom not getting her insulin at Alpine? She clearly regulates when the insulin get into her bloodstream. It had to be a procedural issue using the pens. What other explanation is there?

Our Experience

The food at Alpine Way was awful. My loved one basically sat in her chair and stared at four walls and the tv. They did have music once a week. No visitors. Her caregivers [names removed] were fabulous. My loved one passed away on the 3rd day of the month. The facility charged me until the middle of the month, which was BS. The main front desk person had no personality and basically ignored us when we came in. My loved one's carpet was filthy and they did a lousy job of cleaning her room. The staff never visited with her. She needed dental work and they were no help. The grounds weren't very well taken care of and they seemed to be short staffed a great deal.

Happy with our choice.

Staff are great; they check on mom every day. People are friendly. Mom's apt has some cabinets that could use some attention. It's an older building but clean. Food seems to be good & varied. Lots of activities are offered. And the surroundings are very pleasant & tucked away with lots of trees. Close to a Fred Meyer & a Walmart. They have a van that takes them shopping. My mom loves her apartment.

Expensive.

My Dad liked Shelton WA because it was a small town and it had a Walmart. He liked a restaurant that has since gone out of business. He was only there for about a month and a half.

Comfortable and nice community with amazing caring people and staff!

The people at Alpine Way are amazing! It's been comfortable and nice. However, they're struggling with getting a handle on the food. That has not been great.

Alpine Way Continuing Care Community review

The best part of Alpine Way are the care givers - they have been so great with our loved one. Overall we have pretty pleased, there are some areas of improvement. The meals are sometimes served cold and there is not much of a selection. Our loved one can't physically participate in the activities, but we do wish they staff would get our loved one out of her room just to at least watch the activities. However the place itself is lovely, and the staff are very friendly.

Pros & Cons of Alpine Way - Do Your Homework

The Director of Sales & Marketing was the best staff member at the facility and made the move-in experience extremely positive and she communicated proactively in all aspects. My parents had a nice room, good food and a nice view from their room. Was a struggle dealing with Business Office Mgr. Ginger. My final invoice (after questioning the amount) magically came back to me at $900 less. I wonder how this may affect other elderly people’s payments or executor’s payments - who may not carefully analyze their invoices The executor for my step Dad also had serious issues with lack of follow up from Biz Mgr. (calling 4-5 times before a return call came). He also experienced her condescending attitude. The executor’s feedback to me was “Alpine’s #1 priority is collecting money, keeping us confused - and making sure we know that a late payment will cost you $150.” Tried to submit complaint to the Better Business Bureau, but Cascade Living Group is not BBB Member, nor accredited by BBB.

Our Family's Experience

Quality of care was 3 stars - They appeared to be understaffed but again I don't have anything to compare to. Mom fell frequently due to her impatience to wait for assistance, complicated by her dementia. I think they could have checked more frequently on her, especially once they realized her "independent" streak. They wouldn't allow us to use some of the tools we used at home to alert us when she tried to get up on her own. I think they tried, but her multiple falls were very distressing to the family. Value of cost. - our best guess was 4 stars. We didn't really have other options in our town for their services, so again nothing to compare them to. Mom wasn't very interested in the food, but that was probably more her than what they offered. The menus sounded good, but due to Covid restrictions, family wasn't able to join mom for meals. They offered lots of options but mom wasn't interested. They tried, as did the family, to get mom involved. She did attend a few activities. Mom entered Alpine for Hospice care and lived there less than a month. The services they provided met a need that our family wasn't able to provide, and we do greatly appreciate that. The staff did seem to care for mom. After being her caregiver for several years, I did have my times of frustration feeling like they should be more attentive .

Like having an extended family

This facility is great, it's like having an extended family. They've become an extended part of our village. My mom is so well cared for here. I'm grateful to have such a wonderful place so close to home and within our community for her. Communication with the family is great, cleanliness is great. I couldn't have asked for a better fit. Our church even hosts the resident worship services here also, which is great.

What in the world?

Staff would not call back, your Sales Manager was rude and actually the rooms she toured were dirty. I believe my husband even saw feces in the wall in the bedroom. Dirty and over priced and not helpful staff.

A Great Place

The people are fantastic. Mom is very happy there. We are struggling a bit with food, and I think part of it has to do with Covid and staffing. My mom is a diabetic and needs a special diet, but they're doing everything they can to accommodate her. And they are just wonderful people.

Family glad to have moved in, wish we'd done it sooner.

Brother-in-law not there very long but we were glad to have had him transferred from nursing home before he died. It made it so much better for my sister who was being given runaround by nursing home. Alpine recognized what was best for whole family & were assertive about making that happen.
