Occupants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. In select cases, communities may offer “aging in place”, nursing care, or Alzheimer’s care. The state of Wisconsin maintains specific rules related to this kind of community. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Bureau of Assisted Living, Division of Quality Assurance, regulates community-based residential communities (CBRFs) regulates this type of community. Public assistance is available through The Elderly and Physically Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program, the Community Options 1915(c) Waiver program, and the Medicaid managed care 1915(b)(c) Family Care Waiver program for the aged and physically disabled. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include when medication administration is not supervised by an RN, practitioner, or pharmacist, the CBRF must arrange for a pharmacist to package and label a resident’s prescription medications in unit dose, Residents may self-administer medications if they are capable, and If the medication administration is supervised by a licensed healthcare professionall, the community must ensure that these individuals coordinate the medication administration process and system. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include these meals must meet the recommended dietary allowances based on current dietary guidelines for Americans, these meals must meet residents special dietary needs, communities must provide at least three nutritious meals a day and a nutritious snack, and therapeutic diets must be provided if ordered by a physician. Staff are required to obtain education in a variety of areas. These include: medication management, community policies and procedures, provision of personal care, and first-aid. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as community must develop a temporary service plan to meet immediate needs, reassessments must be conducted at least annually, and when residents have a change in needs, abilities, or condition, the plan must specify which program services will be provided to meet the resident’s needs as identified by the assessment and the frequency with which each service will be provided, and initial comprehensive mental and physical assessment. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include transportation, behavior management, leisure time activities, and activity programming for persons with dementia. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents.
