Thorne Crest Senior Living Community, a CCRC in Albert Lea, MN

Our experience with Thorne Crest was very short. We set up my parents in independent living and shortly after we moved them in one parent started showing major signs of needing to be put in a memory care unit. Thorne Crest has a small memory care unit with a big waiting list. We needed to look for another open location in a memory care unit.

They really try and involve the community and their decorations are beautiful. The facility is very nice and clean and always decorated. As far as improving, on the memory care side, I have seen no activities with those residents. And with memory care it may be difficult, but they have puzzles on a shelf but I have never seen any open. There is very little interaction with the residents. They seem to just send everyone back to their rooms after mealtime. On the other side, assisted living side, they have several activities that residents can partake in like exercise class, bingo, a boat trip outing, but nothing in memory care.

Friendly staff, receptive to my concerns and feedback. The assisted living yes, the memory care side is very small and depressing . Staff are helpful and nice, but not all experienced with my dad's needs with colostomy and prosthetic leg.

It is a very nice facility and very clean. They are adding more activities which is great. The room sizes in memory care are great. I feel my mother in law's room is quite large comparatively speaking.
