Worst Place in Texas

OMG!!! This place is old, smells like urine all the time, and is filthy. Their Memory Care Unit has 1 ONE "skilled???" person inside the lock down unit to care/watch over 10-15 women in various stages of memory loss. Most of the time the ladies have greasy stringy hair falling in their faces, sitting around in gowns, robes, or dirty wrinkled clothes, some without shoes on their bare feet and in general are ignored. Some are so heavily drugged they can barely hold their head up. They are served lunch by 2 ladies, which is unbelievably tasteless and unpalatable. Generally one helper feeds a woman and sometimes another but I have only observed 1 helping feed while the other dishes out the slop they call food. I tasted my "sister's" soup and it was like slop. Sour and without nutritional substance. After the ladies eat they are gathered like sheep and put in a room with a television showing old Gunsmoke episodes or some other program. There are no activities whatsoever and most ladies are either left setting in this disgusting room or in their own room sleeping or in the instance of my sister, in an unoccupied room with a mattress on a metal jailhouse cot. The staff I have met seem like decent people but they are certainly under-trained and under-staffed. Outside the memory care unit the other patients sit in wheelchairs, hospital bed chairs, or nasty upholstered chairs that smell like feces & urine. There are probably 1-2 people manning the stations outside approximately 5 central stations. The patients are totally ignored and again parked in front of a television. My sister's family pays almost $5,000 a month for this filthy understaffed place. I can't believe it hasn't been shut down but again the greased palms of those state or local inspectors responsible for our most vulnerable elderly rarely take action to shut down such a facility. My heart cries for each person confined to this South Place in Athens TX.

Sorriest Medical/Nursing Home Facility in the city of Athens Texas

My sister, [name removed] , was placed in this facility by her husband, [name removed], and Dr. [name removed]. I was advised by her now deceased husband to stay away for a period of 3-4 months because Dr [name removed] was working to stabilize her behavioral outbursts caused by Alzheimer's, with medication. On this visit at 10:30 a.m. I found her in the dirtiest living conditions possible, and non-responsive to anyone. I was told by the staff working on the floor she was sedated and isolated because she caused too much trouble with the other women. The home regularly leave 1 person in the unit to care for 10-18 women with varying stages of Alzheimer's, or memory issues. I came back a week later and found [name removed] depressed barely able to keep her head up, eating a lunch of stale bread sandwiches, soup, milk and some other unpalatable sweet. Over the next 3 months I visited her regularly and was allowed to take her off the premises. She cried each time I returned her. I never had to sign in, or out, I was verbally given the code to the lock down ward, and on the last day she was there I was given her medications with a list and dosage times and quantities, then told to return her 4 days later. I did not because I had decided she had to be moved. This move was coordinated with her husband, step-son and Dr. [name removed] who wrote a letter stating she was able to be moved. Bottom line, this facility needs to be investigated and brought to answer for their inhumane treatment of our elderly Alzheimers citizens. Dr [name removed]v needs to be investigated for her involvement or perhaps monetary kickbacks from placing patients in this facility. There is no excuse for my sister or any other human being to be treated in such an inhumane way. Oh, they charge Close to $4800 per month for this level of care.
