Disgusted and Appalled

DO NOT send or allow anyone to send a loved there under any circumstances, not even for a day! My dad had a stroke and fell down the stairs. Turns out he broke both bones in his shoulder. He was a month in of healing, when he was transferred from the hospital to Hudson Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for rehab, while waiting for a bed at Daughters of Sarah. He was only there for 10 hours, when he fell out of bed and laid on the floor for like 20 minutes screaming help, before anyone came to assist him. They said he was okay and didn't get hurt, when in fact, he had dislocated his shoulder and re broke one of the bones. He was only there 3 days, during which time, he fell out of bed, was yelled and screamed at, by one of the employees that was feeding him and was forced to eat when he didn't want it. After lunch one day, he asked to be put into bed, where he sat in a wheelchair for 3 hours, waiting for someone to come, after repeatedly asking to be put in bed. Two days after he fell, he was in a lot of pain and I knew as soon as I saw his shoulder, why. I told the nurse he wanted pain meds for his shoulder and pulled down the gown off his shoulder to show them. The bone was poking through and they had the nerve to be concerned, saying it doesn't look good and I don't like the way that looks, per the head nurse, after stating he was fine and not taking any further action when it happened. Really? How does someone not notice?! He couldn't dress or feed himself, so how did they not notice when changing him?! He was IMMEDIATELY sent to ALBANY MED ER and NEVER returned to Hudson Park! There was no way we would allow it. He stayed at the hospital until a bed was available for him at Daughters of Sarah. We were informed by both the hospital and orthopedics, that they couldn't operate or put screws in his shoulder, due to his age (89) and medical issues. We were told, his bones would shatter. So he now has a permanently dislocated shoulder. The place should be closed down! The inside is a dump, NOT clean in any way and the smell of urine is all through the building! I watched as some of the patients and residents were neglected, disrespected and even ignored! I felt so bad for them! After requesting to be changed, my dad's roommate, who is a resident, sat in a poopy diaper for 4 hours, before anyone came to assist him. We don't ever want to hear the name Hudson Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center ever again! And when we refer to it, we call it the HOUSE OF HORRORS, cuz that's what it is! Needless to say, I contacted my lawyer and filed a lawsuit against them for both neglect and negligence! I wouldn't send my dog there if I had one! And if I could give a rating of 0 stars, I would!

Negligence

Regardless of my persistence in making sure things were done for the welfare of my brother's care, it was not enough. While the Administrator, Physical Therapist, and select nursing staff were knowledgeable and friendly, his treatment and care were still neglected on numerous occasions. Constant followup was necessary on my part in making sure he was getting the care he needed. One nurse was a total detriment and left (or possibly got fired). It is pretty sad that I had to request tests, treatments, and consultations that should have been otherwise done already. The last straw was that I learned that my brother was left in his bed for 3 days (unable to speak and with no use of his hand to feed himself) before FINALLY being hospitalized and ultimately dying. From what I witnessed, some staff are caring while most are truly collecting a paycheck. Do not settle! And, be the voice of your loved one over and over again...constantly.

HORRIBLE place....stay away!

My sister went to Hudson Park for rehab after a major surgery. I went to visit the day after she got there and was appalled at the conditions of the facility, and the attitudes of the staff. It appears that they're severely under-staffed. There was peeling wallpaper in most of the halls, floors were filthy and bathrooms weren't cleaned on a daily basis. My sister was there for 3 days before she was even seen by an OT, PT or doctor. Her meds were supposed to be given on a schedule but one day she went 9 hours before she received them. The mattress was so old and thin that the metal bars of the bed frame were coming through the mattress. She was then given an air mattress to cover the existing mattress but it had a hole in it and the answer she received from the staff was "well we did the best we could". She finally just walked out after 5 days and no one even knew it. I would avoid this place like the plague...which I have no doubt some people will catch while in their care.

Stay away at all cost

Do not under any circumstance bring anyone in your family to live here. The facility is filthy. They are short handed .Stay away at all cost. Better you travel a little distant to a good facility than stay at this place.
