So fortunate to have my husband admitted here

From his first day there, we both knew that this was the right place for my husband to begin his recovery. A recent amputee, the nursing staff and care givers were very good and thorough with his care. PT and OT staff were outstanding and really pushed him to regain his strength and stamina to help prepare him for his prothesis. Compared to another facility which was top rated, Hillside far exceeded their care and work with my husband. The facility does not look like a typical nursing/rehab facility. It is very calming and "homey". I would highly recommend Hillside to anyone needing care and rehabilitation. If we have to be in the situation to need a facility of this type again, it will be the one I will choose. Although the travel there was not ideal, it was well worth the time it took for me to visit for him to get such a high level of care. Thanks to all of the staff who took such good care of my husband.... Read more

Hillside Resthome is the Best

The best part of Hillside is the Resthome Assist Living. They really love the residents. The whole staff is loving: [name removed] the manager, The 2 Twanda’s are awesome nurses, [name removed] the bath aide, [name removed] at night.. Those women make Hillside worth having a parent there. The owners over look that department. It rocks!! My family will continue to support Resthome. Even Though my mom just recently pass I always drop off donuts, cause they need to know how special they are..

Excellent experience with rehab

Let me start by saying my wife is a retired nurse, my son is a nurse and his wife is a nurse. As a point of reference my daughter had been a part owner of a consulting business which evaluated nursing homes. My wife came down with an infection on [date removed] and was admitted the hospital on [date removed]. When released she had become so weak that rehab was necessary and we selected Hillside Nursing & Rehab. For 9 days she was provided excellent care at Hillside and on [date removed] the symptoms of the infection reappeared. I was so impressed with the care and treatment she was receiving, I told her nurse that if they had all of the necessary equipment for acute care I would prefer they continue to treat her. That was not to be and the nurse indicated that she should be transported to the hospital. This time her hospital stay was 9 days and they diagnosed her with bacterial meningitis and started her on a different antibiotic. We were pleased Hillside had a bed and accepted her back. After only 4 days at Hillside they determined the antibiotic was not working and she was transported back to the hospital. After a stay of 10 days in the hospital we once again wanted to have her transported to Hillside for rehab. She spent 14 days at Hillside and came home 2 weeks ago. We are a family who would not accept anything less than excellent care for a loved one. The best review I can give you for this facility is that we selected them each time rehab was necessary and were delighted they had a bed available. The staff is very caring and and professional by demonstrating that over and over to my wife and family.

Never again!

Unfortunately, our 82 yr. mother was sent to Hillside for rehabilitation therapy after having major surgery. My initial concern upon arriving the first day was the lack of security and safety measures in place at the rehabilitation section and the nursing center where seniors live full time. Upon arrival all you do is sign your name, date, arrival time and the patient who you wish to visit in a long book. Your photo ID was never checked nor where badges given to visitors to wear. I only signed in on the first day and walked right past the desk the following 6 days. No one stopped me or questioned me. One afternoon, I decided to explore the entire facility. While touring the building, I was invited into rooms and talked to some of the residents (many asked me to get them straws, ice, water, tissues, warm blankets, clean diapers etc.) I toured behind nursing stations, the kitchen, the physical therapy room, staff lunch room, closets that were not locked etc. and no one stopped me. Given the current climate of our society and our concern with elder abuse and violence to large facilities, this place is scary!!! Anyone can enter this facility and go anywhere they want including patient rooms and do heaven knows what to the patients without being noticed or questioned. I was scared to death for my mothers safety. My family made sure that there was always one family member there with her during the visiting hours. In addition, on the second night, my mother was given Tramadol (Tramadol is a narcotic-like pain reliever used to treat moderate to severe pain) because she was having pain in her heel due to a heel spur. She asked for ice, but instead was given Tramadol. She was given 25 mg at 2 a.m. and 50 mg again 4 hours later. She was left is a confused and drowsy state for 36 hours. The Tramadol was prescribed by the hospital to be given to her ONLY if she experiences severe pain from her colon and bladder surgery. Someone on the nursing staff made a huge error that could have had life altering results for my mother. In addition, Hillside did not transport my mother to her surgical follow-up as required. She was left sitting in her wheelchair in her room fully dressed waiting for someone to take her to the transport van. Meanwhile, family members waited frantically at the doctors office wondering where she was because when a call was placed to Hillside, no one seemed to know where my mother was. After consulting with her surgeon, the surgeon highly recommended that we sign her out of Hillside ASAP. The doctor took all the information down about Hillside and promised my family to NEVER recommend Hillside to any future families.

You will stop looking when you tour Hillside

My mother has lived in Assisted Living at Hillside since November 2015, and I would recommend this facility whole-heartedly. Hillside is very clean. I am impressed that it does not smell like urine as do most nursing homes that I have visited. The staff is extremely caring. They go out of their way to help their residents. For example, the make sure that Mom eats her meals when she does not want to go to the dining room at meal time. Quite often, they will later reheat her meal and allow her to eat in the dining room while checking on her often or they will take the meal to her room. The staff is friendly and helpful. The residents are friendly towards each other, also. They have bright and spacious semi-private rooms, plus they offer a few private rooms. Each Friday afternoon they have a "Social" with a special treat...strawberry shortcake, S'mores, pumpkin pie for example. And on the third Friday, they have birthday cake and ice cream to celebrate the residents who have a birthday that month. After having parents in several other facilities, this one tops them all by far!

So Sad

Not so great. Visited a fellow church member recently. I just didn't get the positive, caring feeling one would expect from a facility in this industry. There was an odor that hit you as soon as pass through the beautiful lobby into the hallway where rooms are. The CNA that was taking care of my friend that day did not even speak to me when she came into the room. Does not seem like a place anyone would want to spend their last days.

Mediocre

Went to check out for my mother in law. I just wasn't impressed. Nothing was terribly bad, but nothing was great either. Did have a bit of odor in hallways. I noticed several empty beds in rooms. Not at full capacity.

BAD VIBES

I work in the industry and was accompanying a friend to tour facility. Hillside has a great facade, but when you get deep into the depths of the hallways, etc. - not so good. Strong urine odor, pieces of trash, dirty rubber gloves, etc on floors in some rooms. Did not get positive vibes as walked through halls. CNA's didn't appear to be overly friendly or happy with their jobs. I advised my friend to look elsewhere.

Um..... not so good.

Looking for facility to place my mother. Front lounge area very nice but full care nursing areas had urine/feces odor and flies were in the couple of rooms we toured. Looks like all money and emphasis goes into the Rehab portion of this nursing home. Also not very friendly. Not one staff member looked up to say hello in hallways. Hillside has made improvements but still has a long way to go. I will not consider leaving any loved one at this facility.
