Do Not Put your Love One here Please

From day one we had a very bad experience with this place. My father was place in his room the first day and no one came back to check on him he layed in feces for 8 hours or more . We ask the nurses to change him and everyone would tell us they was going to get the person who change the patients. So the job kept getting passed down. I finally had taking all I could and went down to the front desk and spoke to a male nurse who stated he was the supervisor for the 3-11 shift. He told me he would get someone in there in the next 5 to 10 minute so I set there for a hours and had to go remind him .Yes I did complain the next day. The nurse staff on night shift was horrible. Their attitude was very nasty when you ask them anything. This one nurse with a stank attitude accuse me of taking a picture of her because she saw me on my phone and heard the sound of me doing a screen shot. This should have been her concern of what I am doing on my phone if she was doing her job. Not a good place

Think twice and be thorough

My brother and I toured this facility when we were determining a place for my 87 year old Mother to rehab after a quadruple bypass, plus losing her husband, our Dad, after 69 years of marriage, all in the same week. The building and grounds looked inviting and we thought she’d be well cared for here but we were wrong. While nothing major happened, it certainly could have if my brother had not been there constantly as her health advocate to make sure things were done properly and in a timely manner most of the time. Our Mom has complete use of her faculties and knows every medicine she takes and when to take it. The overall attitude of the nurses and aides is nonchalant, they sit around the front desk on their phones or chatting with each other, they don’t really care about the patients, they’re just getting a paycheck. With the exception of one particular nurse who was caring, considerate and kind and the PT and OT who were also kind and supportive. From meds not being given in a timely manner (very important ones) to being spoken to disrespectfully with no sense of compassion, to not seeing the resident doctor in the entire first 2 weeks she was there, I would NOT recommend sending your loved one here unless you can be there 24/7 or afford to hire a sitter, which we did for a lot of the time. It’s a shame you can’t depend on getting quality care for your loved one, especially as much as these places cost. We were so disappointed in this place and she will never go back here.

Everything looks really clean

I toured here when looking for a place for my dad. They were very nice, but the main problem was that they were too far away. The person that gave me the tour was easy to talk to and they were able to answer all of my questions. From what I saw, the building was real clean and I didn’t notice any issues with that. I don’t recall really seeing any other residents while I was there, but it was the evening so that may be why. I was able to see one of the rooms and it looked comfortable, at least. There was construction on the highway so the traffic and the noise were major factors in why we decided not to move my dad here.

Frequently Asked Questions about Highland Home

A Place for Mom has scored Highland Home 1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
