We used home care services through Friends of the Family briefly. Our first nurse for 4 hours was wonderful and helpful. The second nurse arrived at 8pm. My husband was over 6ft tall and was bed bound on Hospice. Right away she told us that she couldn't lift that much and that is what we needed her help with the most. So she was of no help. I'm surprised a nurse, who I'm assuming knew about the patient, who couldn't turn or lift would be assigned to a patient who needed that. My husband passed away at 10pm, so she only stayed for 2 hours. The complaint I have is: I waited a long time for my reimbursement of pre payment and then when I did receive it, the check was made out to my Husband, who had passed away, instead of me. My name was on everything the agency had, so I don't understand why they would not use my name for the reimbursement. I was able to deposit the check, but others might not have been able to.... We received excellent in home care for my Mom....four consecutive Fridays. The woman who came into my Mom’s home quit abruptly and Friends of the Family informed us that they had NO ONE else available to take care of Mom. There was not a lot of need for in home caregivers in Monroe County, but my Mom lived in a Senior Community of 50 condos. No need!? For this reason, I would NOT recommend Friends of the Family. AND, my Mom still believes that she did something wrong to lose [name removed].

These people were good and they were helpful. My mom just did not feel comfortable with someone taking care of her in her house. Mom also wanted to be able to be well to see other communities to be able to live in.

I only had a very brief experience with the agency. We never had any issues with them, but my loved one passed away rather quickly, so we did not need to use them for long.
