Friend;s Homes initially was an ideal retirement home. It was started by individuals for their own future retirement. Accommodations were modest but there was stron emphasis on quality food. Management changed from Quaker influence to Presbyterian and quality of life has declined drastically. Food is the cheapest available and preparation is poor. Sandwiches which were liked at West have been removed and are now located at Guilford campus a mile away. Handicapped residents are told they can go there - in rain or cold - in walkers or scooters - if they want a sandwich. Emphathy for residents is lacking. It's no longer a retirement home for elderly and handicpped but for younger healthier retirees.

This place has a very pleasant atmosphere. It's very quiet. It's not glitzy and overdone, which we liked. It's more for regular folks. We ended up choosing another place because it cost less money but we really liked this one.
